I know that 150 points is minimum for a 1st time direct purchase, but is that still the minimum of you own a resale contract? So if I buy a 200 point resale contract can I buy a direct 50 add on afterr that since I already own or do I still have to buy 150 minimum from Disney for Direct?

You can buy whatever the minimum is for a current owner. Some resorts are as low as 25.

Also just to add, even if you buy some direct points, still wont get you a blue card unless you get to 150.

Once you are a member, you qualify for the 25 (or 50) point add on minimum purchase, as long as the additional contract is for the same use year and titled the same as the resale contract. IOW, if you buy anything that necessitates a different membership, you would have to buy the minimum required for a new membership (150 points, currently).

RIV and CCV are 50 point minimums. I think we will see VGF go to that tomorrow.

The other resorts are 25 for current owners paying cash or 50 if you finance to Disney.

But, as mentioned, to get membership extras, you have to reach 150 but at least can work your way to it. New buyers must start there.

So if I only own a resale contract my minimum 1st direct purchase has to be 150 points??

Can be as few as 25 points. You would only need to purchase 150 if you want access to Membership Extras (discounts, special events, etc.).

As long as you are already own, regardless or resale or direct, you can buy the minimum (which is 25 or 50 points, depending on the resort and financing). However, you would have to have 150 direct points to be a blue card member. so you can buy 50 points direct if you are currently a resale member, but would still have a white card. Make sense?

Yes, that answers my question. I do not need discounts, already an out of state incredipass holder. I'm more interested in being and to book at Riviera once in awhile. We are waiting rofr on fairly big Resale but could only afford to add small amounts direct.

Just remember what CarolMN stated. If you are changing anything from your current resale membership ie Use Year or names on the deed it would be considered new and you would have to buy in at 150 points. If everything is the same then yes ninafeliz has it spot on.

Can you choose to buy a different use year if you already own and have one? I don't think I would want to, I don't want to confuse any issues, but in reality our December use year isn't ideal for us. For some reason I was thinking if you added on more points direct they made you keep the same use year - but as I think about it how could they *make * you?

A direct add on will always be same UY and same names on deed. Resort can be different. If UY or Names are different, it's not an true add on.

DVD won't sell you a different use year unless you buy at least 150 points, which is the minimum for a new membership. Different use year means a different / new membership.

You can choose to buy a different UY, but then it would be a different membership and subject to the 150 point minimum purchase for a new membership. To buy fewer than 150 points in the new UY, you'd need to buy a resale (of any size) in the new UY, then you could buy as many direct as you wanted in that UY.

Thanks! As soon as I asked I flipped back to the main page on Purchasing DVC and saw someone had asked a similar question and it was discussed in detail. We would be adding on 250-300 points, so it sounds like we could choose a different use year and get a second membership. However, as I have decided each time I've thought about it and read discussions on it, I don't want to have to mess with that. I am willing to risk cancelling and holding if we ever have to travel past our banking date to avoid worrying about transferring points, missing deadlines, etc. I know it can be done, but I don't want to have to mess with it. December it is.

We were thinking of adding on two 125 or 150 point contracts instead of one 250 or 300 point contract, so if as our kids get older and don't all travel with us and we don't have to have 2 BRs we could potentially sell one contract. We can do that, correct?

Are 150 points also required to become a new member if the only points you buy are a smaller resale? (....and, Yes, I know I’d be a white Card member)

Once you own any number of points bought resale, you're considered a member and can buy any number of points direct that you want, subject to the resort-specific minimums of 25 or 50 points.

No. You can purchase any resale contract you find, subject to Disney's ROFR.

Oh good! My very first, and very small, resale contract just went to ROFR two days ago. And this part of your response... [“unless you buy at least 150 points, which is the minimum for a new membership”] ...had me so worried!
