Purchasing a PE upgrade

I have 4 economy seats to Orlando, usually we travel n PE.

I bought my seats using miles, so they won't let me buy upgrades and they are to expensive anyway. They have told me to wait until the day and see what offers are available then.

When is the best time to try?, we are at the airport the day before staying at the Gatwick Hilton, so can try anytime.

What upgrade prices did you pay?

be interested to know as well, we will be travelling with one broken ankle in a cast and i'll be 5 months pregnant so the extra bit of room will be nice

We used miles and money

When I flew with Virgin in April they were selling the upgrades for £150 at the gate

We actually upgraded as part of our holiday booking Kev, price for us varied from around £295 to £350 each.

Realise you will be aware of this but to leave so late, it could be 50/50 whether they have 4 seats available.

Thanks for asking this, DBF (6'1") and I (er... 5'5") would love to know too. dtm316, £150 would be ideal for us! Fingers crossed... :goodvibes

I would say the minute the check in starts.

If it was me I would ring the day before the flight to find out whether there was 4 PE seats available first - just pretend you are going to buy:thumbsup2

Was told that because I used airmiles, I couldn't upgrade and the cost would be £1600 anyway. Not something I can justify this time.

They advised me to wait until the day.

VS015 12.45 September 13th

Thanks

Only showing two empty PE seats, 82E & F downstairs, however showing "9" for W, i.e. plenty of W class seats available, (Full fare PE) and "S" at 9 also (Discounted PE) so perhaps VH have not sold their allocation

Thanks. Going to ring and see what I can do

Rang Virgin - told there is a lot of seats available in PE. Quoted me silly money to upgrade now, but quoted £199 on the day, they actually advised me to wait.

Going to wait, we'll be at the airport nearly 24 hours beforehand and I don't see there being a rush to upgrade 44 days out for a middle September in term time.

Please ignore me if I am being really thick but are the upgrades at the airport a return price?
If not and there is 4 of you, wont it still cost you £1600 in total for both sectors?
I no that the flight I have recently done they had some extra leg room seats in economy (not exits) that they were selling for a good price (just a thought for you orangetiggs) if they dont have any PE seats left. They actually had quite a bit of extra room-worth the money.

thanks babystar, i'm under special assistance as I have a multiple pregnancy so hoping to get extra leg room seats anyway

Interesting!
NOBODY in Upper Class!
but only one seat (82E) showing in PE (remember on these flights the VH seats at the front of the bubble are not showing as they are blocked out until 24 hours before)

Seat availability showing: W7, S6 K4, so still seats available in discounted tickets.
Also full "Z" class Lowest UC showing as 9

It's not just extra leg room seats you'll be requiring, you'll need extra wide seats when carrying two.

My children were 8.5lbs and my second 10.5lbs and both times my wife was massive.

You are not being thick, the upgrades are one way, but I once got free upgrades, and once paid £120 each way, so I am not paying £1600 now to upgrade when I could get a good deal on the day. Especially when with my son's needs, we could get a good seat anyway, it's mainly because my wife is a nervous flyer and coupled with looking after Daniel, it could be a tough trip out. The only worry is Virgin won't guarantee special seating my son needs.

So how much do you think it would cost to go UC?:rotfl2:
