I am very close to purchasing at SSR (probably before the end of the week) but had some questions. Does anyone own there and if so have your experiences been good. I am buying sight unseen and not sure if this is a good way to go. BVW is also available. How hard is it to get into a resort that is not your home resort. I would probably need a studio or 1 bedroom. I am hearing that SSR since it is not close to the parks is not really convient.
Any help you can give me would be great, this is all new to me and I am considering this a major purchase. I would like have as much info as I can get.
Thanks for you help.

Sue....welcome to the DIS Boards! :)

And you are right to understand DVC as thoroughly as possible before purchasing. Your questions are very common ones, and you will find a wealth of information on these boards.

As for the importance of "home resort", and tons of other great information, check out this thread... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=778634&page=1&pp=15

As for convenience to the parks, it is pretty equal at all DVC on-site resorts except that at BWV and BCV you can walk to two of the parks (MGM & EPCOT).

As for SSR, here's a sampling of some satisfied owners. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1142004

I encourage you to read these boards, ask questions and become completely familiar with the ins and outs of DVC before making such a large purchase. For most of the owners here, it has been a wonderful purchase in upgrading the vacation experience. Others have found that DVC is not a good fit for their vacationing habits or planning style.

Good luck! :)

SSR goes to 2054, BWV will go to 2042 - both January 31

BWV has the standard view villa which will save you quite a few points over the life of the contract.

so I would go with BWV.

however SSR is lovely. DVC spend alot of money on this resort and it shows.

SSR is next to DD - so if you are young or have teens (some to be young adults) - then you might consider it because of PI.

but then BWV has the BW and some people love Jellyrolls (BW) more than Adventure Club (PI)

We bought sight unseen at SSR. We visited it after our spring break cruise, and are very happy with it. :thumbsup2 If we were "forced" to stay there, it would be no problem.
Having said that, we are heading down over New Year's and originally had SSR booked, but at seven months out we were able to get BCV, OKW, and VWL for a couple nights each. This is going to be our DVC sampler trip.
