Purchase Timing Question

Hi all,

After almost buying SSR, DW and I have decided to purchase BWV either through DVC or resale. Honestly whichever one comes through first is probably what we'll do. Anyway, DW is pregnant and we won't be going until sometime in 2006, so we really don't need any 2004 points at all. We would bank 2005's and use 2006's to get what we want. My question is this: should we purchase something now, knowing we don't need any 2004 points, or should we wait until 2005 when we're ready to actually bank them. I know we could rent the 2004 points, but in all honesty I'd rather go through the DVC reservation and trip at least once myself before renting points. On the other hand, who knows how much points will cost in a year. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you can, I recommend buying now and banking. Many threads on this site are suggesting sustained high demand and a series of price increases before year's end. Regardless of when you do it, you will be glad you did. Good luck with the new baby.:earsboy:

First of all, congratulations on your pending addition! That's wonderful news!

My advice re DVC is to complete your research and start looking now.

Keep in mind that even though you don't plan to visit until sometime in calendar year 2006, your vacation dates might actually fall within a 2005 use year. It will just depend on the use year of the contract you purchase. If so, you could bank the 2004 points and use them for your first trip.

An extreme example - you buy a contract with a December use year. That means your 2004 use year points are good for a stay that falls between 12/1/2004 and 11/30/2005. Your 2005 points are valid for stays between 12/1/2005 and 11/30/2006. If you bank your 2004 points, they wouldn't expire until 11/30/2006.

Also consider that there seem to be quite a few "stripped" contracts on the market. (Contracts that have few, if any current year points left). You might get a good deal on one of those - you don't mind that there aren't 2004 points availoable and could save a few dollars by not paying annual maintenance fees on points youdon't get to use.

As you say, the price of points will probably continue to rise - at least for a few years yet. By starting your search now, you can take advantage of any good resale opportunites that may come up in the near future and depending on the use year, you may not have to worry about the 2004 points - you'll be able to use them for your first trip home! (YCK! Excuse that long, run on sentence, LOL). :teeth:

Best wishes -
