Purchase of less than 150 points???

Hello everyone: A quick question for the experts. I am not a member of DVC, but will be very soon. Can I buy a resale contract(from Timeshare Store) that is less than 150 points? I might want to do a couple of smaller contracts and have different home resorts. If so would there be any problem with Disney when it is registered? Thanks. Tom

We bought, and only own, a 100 point contract at BWV. As far as I can tell, and what I've been told, we are treated no different than any other member. We have a right to attend and vote at the owners meeting, etc... Just pay your yearly maintenance fees per point, and they'll be happy. The only person who might've been a little upset was the DVC sales person who was dealing with me. She checked in a couple of weeks after we had spoken and I told her we purchased a resale...she didn't seem to thrilled as she didn't make the sale herself.

The only problem you might have is Disney's right of first refusal. Rumor has it that they are buying more small contracts from people who are not already members. I wouldn't let that stop you from trying though.

you say you only own 100 pts at BWV and got them from a DVC sales person, was that an add-on?
I thought if you bought( 1st time contract) from Disney it was a min of 150 pts

you can buy any resale number of pts but I believe if you buy from disney and its your 1st contract the min is 150 pts

Looks like MBIJ purchased a resale and his/her DVC guide that would have sold and pocketed the comission lost the sale since they could sell to new members for less than 150 pts

We just finalized 80 points at BWV through the Timeshare Store. I wanted to pay cash and 150 points was too much $$$.
We did lose the first try to ROFR, 60 points at VWL. The smaller resales can take time, and there are closing costs to consider, but ours did come through eventually. I'm not sure if Disney looks more carefully at first time, small contracts or if they pay more attention to the price per point. On a small contract, my thought was that I could afford the asking price, since offering less would only make a difference of $80, in my case. For instance, if the seller is asking $72/point, I could offer $71/point, but I'd only save $80 and might send up red flags to Disney's dreaded ROFR board. Our stategy did work out and we are now very excited owners, with banked points as a bonus!
