It's nice to wear something new on vacation. Fashion changes every season. What is in now, won't be in two seasons from now.

I usually get new things on clearance. DD can wear them to school for three months while it is still warm and still have some nicer looking things for vacation. This is I bought us the Aloha Mickey outfits and some Disney shirts.

I buy a few new tanks for me, and for the kids, but for DH he gets new everything, since he seems to stain everything and then it ends up being work clothes... he makes out like a bandit! :rotfl:

I may or may not buy new clothes for vacations...really depends on the deals going on. This time I bought a few new things. I headed over to Lerner and bought a pair of shorts and two shirts for $20. I also bought a princess tee at my job (TDS). That'll probably be the extent of my new clothes this vacation. Yeah fashion changes, but I don't look for the season trendy things...I buy things that look good yet are always in style (as I don't like having to buy a new wardrobe every season)...it's never failed me. :)

I chose other. I like to shop while on vacation.

Undies and socks - definitely (we call that the "midnight pre-vacation Walmart run" in our family :rotfl2: ). Means you don't have to do that laundry before you go away. Otherwise, only new stuff IF it's on sale and needed - means I can spend on vacation, if I find something really great.

call it my hobby, but I love to shop, especially if its on sale..thats why I love the BUDGET BOARDS.. so I buy and I buy..until I have enough clothes to wear on 2 vacations..Yes i will pick something up and say "Oh this will be great for Disney" but I can't wait and wear it before hand..I look for comfy clothes and w/my kids the age they are their always getting their little hands on my nice clean new shirt..so I don't get upset let them touch me and use me as their napkin..I got a couple of more shirts almost just like that one..

So I say indulge, you deserve it...

Musicmama we also do the underwear and sock Walmart run it's my favorite
part of pretrip..

not usually for disneyworld but for our cruise I did pick up some new clothing for the kids. for dh and I- nothing usually.

I don't normally buy new clothes for vacation, but this year I did buy several things for myself (which I also NEVER do). The reason is that we are going to WDW in August (free dining of course) and I was concerned that my usual clothes would be too hot.

If you are looking for a place for great buys on summer clothes try Chadwick's on-line. I found great buys in their clearance section and found some codes to use either here or on a search engine. The clothes are good-quality and always seem to be a perfect fit. And I am by no means perfect!

Disneydirect also has had some cute stuff on clearance. I bought matching sundresses for myself and my DD for under $20 total and free shipping! She will not see hers until we get to WDW. They are tiki Mickey design and we will wear them to dinner at 'Ohana.

We have friends who routinally spend thousands of dollars on clothes for EACH vacation which we think is nuts.

Disneynan, We'll be wearing our Tiki Mickey outfits to Ohana too! We'll be there on 9/25. How about you?

For the question, I bought a lot of summer/tropical things on clearance last fall to wear on our January cruise. I felt weird about buying so many new things for a vacation, but I love that we look so terrific in our pictures from the cruise! And it's been great to have nicer things to wear this summer. And now we can wear them again when we go to Disney on our last minute "free dining/Southwest air deal" trip!!

I've picked up some more things for this trip, too, mostly on Disneydirect. I got the cheap cheap cheap Tiki outfits for the whole family, and I got the kids disney-themed swimsuits and matching towels. I won't unveil any of these things until we are on vacation, and I'm planning on treating them like souvenirs of the trip to hopefully cut down souvenir begging by the kids. We'll see how well that works. ;) I'm also making a couple sets of matching T-shirts for us to wear--one for a park day and one for MNSSHP. Do those count as new clothes? :)

So the answer -- I went totally crazy buying stuff for the first "real" vacation we took as a family (the cruise), and I've only been mildly crazy for the second one. Think there's a chance I could be sane for the third one? Not as long as there are clearance racks, outlet malls and end of season sales. :rotfl:

Since we usually go to WDW in October, I get alot of new summer clothing on clearance. I wouldn't normally do this , but because its the end of summer and alot of my DD's clothes are worn out looking, i go ahead and get them. I also buy flip flops on clearance even though we don't really wear these in the parks. Anything Disney I can find, I buy..either from Disney Direct, The Disney Store, or anyplace else. I just feel better being on vacation not wearing something I've had all summer long...and my toddler DD's clothes are SO worn out..i usually buy a few things each week and store them until vacation. If something is needed sooner, I pull it out, but otherwise it stays until we leave.

I actually knew some folks that would bring old clothes on vacations. They would wear them. Through them out and then have space to collect toys that they bought...

Yep - we always get new clothes...not so much for DH and myself but for the kids....I went to Gymboree last night and got clothes for our cruise...the girls will be well dressed and I may look like a rag a muffin!

I always buy new underwear when we go on vacation. I have no idea why but I do
Did your mom always tell you to have nice underwear on in case you were in an accident??? :rotfl2: I always heard that!
I read somewhere that someone packed all of their old raggy clothes and threw them away before they left leaving more room in the suitcases for souvenirs.

Usually no I dont--but this year, our first Disney trip--I did. We all got new swimsuits, me and dh got new tennis shoes (ours were over 2 yrs) Kids just got new ones at the beginning of summer. I bought 1 new outfit for each day and 2 new sets of pjs for all of us (figure the old will work also) IM also taking a few outfits I bought at the beginning of summer. I just everything to be new and magical for the kids and they will feel extra special when opening their suitcases and seeing all the new stuff they got (they havent seen the new clothes yet) and will feel nice walking around the park. AND since this is 1 week before school---they have new "school" clothes for when its still hot at the start of the year!!!

Not to mention--I wear dress suites to work, so I am in need of some new summer clothes and wont have to worry about it next summer now. Just have to pick up some of the new trendy items--the things I bought for this summer were the staples that needed replaced anyway!!! Same for dh!

I just ordered some shirts, etc. from Disneystore site's clearance. We haven't visited WDW for 3 years and only planned this trip last week so I wanted some new SALE Dis items. DD21 didn't buy shorts this year and has been wearing jeans since she hasn't been out of AC much. Of course, there was nothing in the stores at this point in her size so I ordered some from a few websites. Just waiting for them all to arrive. So, except for Dis items I only buy what I need. :teacher:

I'm sure I get this from my mom. She will point things out to me, saying, "oh, that would be nice to wear in FL", and I'll remind her that I only buy multiples of things that have Mickey on them. I am truly insane that way. If it has a Disney character, I neeeeeeed it! I have curbed my buying a bit-otherwise there will be no $ for WDW and no room for souveniers (oh, the horror!). So, I always claim that I will not buy any more that what we need, but that never works out. Bottom line, I voted yes! With 3 daughters- ages 16, 12, and 2, I keep having to replace stuff anyway.....

I love getting new clothes for vacation--even for myself and I NEVER buy for myself! It is something about Disney thought that makes it even more tempting...our wardrobes become all-Disney, all-the-time on vacation!

Since I've been planning this trip for over a year I have been stockpiling stuff I see on clearance (and not just clothes--accessories, toiletries, etc.)...Since I buy a little at a time and rarely spend more than $5 for an item of clothing (adult or child) it hasn't crunched our budget and it's going to be a thrill when everyone opens their suitcase to find fun new stuff. I've got matching shirts and hats for all of us for three days so far and at least the girls will match the rest of the trip. And since I am getting lots of new Disney stuff they don't know about it will be like getting souvenirs beforehand. I plan on laying out outfits as they sleep and telling them whatever character left it for them in the morning as a surprise:) My only issue so far is getting bummed that the Incredibles shirts show NO sign of going on clearance and are even MORE expensive on ebay than in the store--and those are the ones I really, really need to get!
