We are considering a DVC purchase and would appreciate your advice.

I have read several statement that you should not consider purchasing unless you will defnintely visit WDW at least every 2 years.

I feel that our circumstance may justify a DVC purchase:

1. Our pattern has been to visit WDW about every 4 to 5 years. However, we love visiting an may increase to every 3 years(it all depends on what new attractions, resorts, parades, celebrations are available. We always stay in deluxe resorts

2. We take a major vacation(even if not Disney) every year that last between 1 to 2 week(and many smaller trips) that usually involve staying in "deluxe resord.

3. If we purchased, we would use II for magical excursions. From what I undestand, the point value is less than comparable DVC resorts for 1 bedrooms. We would also use our points for occasional stays in Disneyland Hotels.

4. We would purchase 150 points to start with the intention of using mostly Studions in Adventure Season at the Friends and Family referral incentive. Our vacation times are flexible although we prefer to vacation the 1st two weeks of December. We would purchase either using 1 year financing(50% down) or 5 years(paid off in 3 years) through Disney Financing.

Your opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Traveling every 3rd to WDW would work as well. If you purchased the minimum from DVC, 150 points. That would give you 450 points every 3 year.....As far as trades through II. We have never done any but they can be done for about 270 points for a 2 bedroom for a week. DVC is something you may want to consider.......but don't buy for the trades, buy for the WDW trips its a better use of points.

Thank-you. One point of clarrification. Can you not use you points for one bedrooms through II or even sometimes studios? Is there anyone who has used DVC as we are proposing. You indicated your points go further but our packet of material indicates that you can get 1 week in a one bedroom for as 123 points to a maximum of 160 points. Is this not cheaper?

We are relative newbies (purchased 200 pts. in SSR last year), but I believe you are correct that you can get a 1-bedroom thru II. If you have any specifics about the purchase procees, PM us.

Yes, you can reserve studios and 1BR villas thru II. In most cases though, if that's how you intend to use your DVC membership there are less costly ways to get II exchanges (there are LOTS of other timeshares that will get the same exchanges for less $$$ than DVC).

The advice about DVC being best for those that will go to WDW at least every other year is based on the initial cost of owning DVC, the annual fees and the points needed for DVC resorts vs the points needed for the non-DVC options. Most will view the non-DVC options as something to try when you have some extra points available on an occasional basis and not to use these options on a regular basis.

Just do the math to see if the value is there for you. You can assign a cost basis for any of the options to use points and compare that to the costs of owning DVC to see if there is value for your intended use versus paying cash as you go or buying a less costly timeshare for exchanges.

Good luck with your decision.
