We were on vacation last week, and our one yr old mixed spaniel has always been excellent when letting us know she has to "Pee Pee". I think over the past year she has had one accident since she was born.

Last week while on vacation we boarded her at the vet. When she came home she has had so many accidents. Any advise on how to remind her about going outside.......Will we have to retrain her?? My parents watch our poodle, so nothing major changes for him!!

I suggest starting the retrain, take her out at specific times, she will remember. :)

Is this the first time you boarded this dog? Could be anxiety and trying to adjust to being back home again..

The first time we boarded our Pom when he came home he wouldn't eat, wouldn't play, and was so anxious he was peeing everywhere and anywhere in the house - including on a visitors leg!!!

Be patient - give him some extra loving - and when he feels secure again he'll probably be fine..:goodvibes

If your pup is urinating more frequently you may want to rule out a urinary tract infection. One of my dogs once got a UTI when she was board at a kennel. May be coincidence or maybe she was holding it too much while kenneled. Easily cleared up with an antibiotic.

:rotfl:sorry that is so funny...

Yes it is the first time she was boarded....Today she is doing better...Maybe it was just a fluke??

We had to retrain my puppy the first time he was boarded, but he picked it back up in just a few days.

my dogs had to be retrained also after being boarded. most places only walk the dogs 2 maybe 3 times in a whole day....that isn't enough and usually the dogs end up peeing and pooping in their kennels. they come home and forget to take it outside.

Some kennels don't give the dogs access to outdoors enough or not at all. so your dog must go inside their run. For some animals this won't do and they will hold it for long periods of time causing a UTI.
