Puerto Rico

I've never been to the "del mar". Is this at the Hyatt Cerromar. Last time I was at the Cerromar they were building a vacation club section. If this it, it would be wonderful. The Hyatt Cerromar has the best river pool. It also has waterslides and a regular swimming pool. It has a casual resturant, and eatery and an elegant steakhouse. It is next door to another Hyatt hotel that you can use and eat at. Down the street is a Japanees Resturant called Yukyu. There is a Pizza Hut and fast food places. PR has more fast food than anywhere. If this is not the same place I can't help you. I have stayed at the El Conquistador on the other side of the Island. THat is one nice resort. There is a rain forest in PR to explore. It is an USA National Park. So the rangers are American. Be careful driving if you rent a car, or even ride. Pureto Ricans drive agressive. More so than New York City Taxi drivers. They have 12 lane highways down there and they will move from lane 1 to lane 6 without looking. It's your job if you are behind them to slow and let them pass. San Juan is a big town, the only thing to see there (imho) is Old San Juan. But anyway, if this places is the vacation club next to the Cerromar it will be great.

its me again! I just looked at Hyatts website and it is where I thought. I would recomend the trade, if you like to trade. Their off season is in the summer though. I am not sure how trading works but their points will be higher in winter while our points will be lower. oh, i forgot they have a Japanees rest. on site. It is closed in the summer when we go. I would request a top floor room. THe grounds are so tropical that the trees block the view. the top floor will give you the most beautiful view. THe beach has its own private lagoon. the wall of coral will keep out the waves and the sharks. But I will stress that the river pool is worth going for, if nothing else. Thank you for reminding me about the vaction club there. I forgot they were building it last time I was there. I will be trading myself soon. Have Fun.

I haven't been to PR in a timeshare mode but here is what I can find out. There are 4 II resorts in PR. Of these only one is on the DVC list and that is the Hyatt. Club Cala de Palmas was on the DVC list previously but the fact it has lost it's 5* rating and is no longer on the DVC list isn't a good sign. The reviews for the Club Cala de Palmas reflect these problems in both the summaries listed and the 6.42 rating. The Hyatt on the other hand is rated 9.25 and enjoys excellent reviews. I believe it's about an hour out of San Jaun if member serves. The resort opened around 1998. The units are all 2 BR lockoff units with full kitchens for the 1 BR and mini kitchen for the studio side, it sounds much like the BW and WL unit setup. It sounds like things may have gone downhill slightly from the onset as the resort has grown but overall sounds like a desirable place to stay.

There is another timeshare to let you know about. It is called the Aquarius Vacation club at Embassy Suites. It is 5 * and looks gorgeius in pictures. It is in Dorado also, I'm not sure how close to the Hyatt. I can't find out much about it as it looks new. I'm not sure it they are actually taking exchanges yet but can find out if you need by calling II. I bet it will be on the DVC list soon and it may be already.

There is one timeshare in San Jaun, it's the El San Juan Towers. It seems to be a reliable standby but not a great timeshare. I wouldn't trade DVC for it.

You might also want to consider a direct exchange with a member (or other Hyatt member) at one of these you are interested in or one of the smaller exchange companies like San Francisco Exchange. Summer should be easy, Xmas to spring break will likely be impossible except maybe early Jan after the holidays. Good luck.

We are planning to visit WDW for a full week in March 2004 and are looking to trade in our 2BR Hyatt timeshare in Puerto Rico for a 2BR unit at either the Boardwalk Villas or Old Key West Resort (Week #10).

We presently have a beautiful 2BR/2BA timeshare unit at the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar in Dorado, Puerto Rico. This is an Interval International 5-Star Resort and worth every star. The Hyatt Hacienda del Mar is convenient to many attractions on the island of Puerto Rico, but a world away once you enter the resort property adjoining the Hyatt Cerromar Beach Resort & Casino on Cerromar Beach in Dorado. The complex includes such amenities as a private beach, a casino, a fitness center, and a river pool (that both kids and adults really love!) with a gentle current that winds through gardens, 14 waterfalls, a hot tub, and a swim-up bar. There are two 18-hole golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.

The Hyatt Hacienda del Mar is a eight-story structure that rests on the breezy north shore of Puerto Rico, 22 miles from the San Juan International Airport. All units are two-bedroom, with views of the Atlantic Ocean and lush tropical gardens. Our unit is on the 6th floor and is an end unit, so it has a fantastic view!

Mark, I suspect this would be better addressed on the Rent/Trade board but since it's here, I'll make a couple of points. From what I know this is a great resort though you may want to consider if you will accept a smaller unit or less than 7 days to make your direct exchange more appealing to DVC members. Also, DVC members don't talk in weeks, I'd suggest you give the dates you will accept rather than the week # then repost on the Rent/Trade board.
