Publix - Very Expensive???

Milk is more expensive at my local Walmart than at the Publix I usually stop at on my way home from work. Like, a lot more!

I loooooove Publix. They have great sales and GREAT people.

Those of you saying that Publix is MORE expensive than Winn Dixie should probably take a second look. I find Winn Dixie's staples are way more expensive than Publix. Dairy, produce, lunch meat, bread. Even the meat is more expensive if it isnt BOGO.

We were out of Coffee Creamer last week and I ran into Winn Dixie because it was on my way home. I almost fell over. The Creamer I pay $2.79 for at Publix was $4.99 at Winn Dixie. Usually, I don't even pay the $2.79 because it is frequently BOGO.

I would say that Publix is expensive for me. I usually only shop there for dairy, produce, and deli/meats. I love their bogo sales, and the shopping experience is the best I've ever had at a grocery store. I get all my other groceries from Walmart. We've got a Winn-Dixie and SuperTarget in our area, too, but don't usually go to either of those on a regular basis. Target's grocery selection is too limited, and I've never felt a need to go to Winn-Dixie, though I may start peeking at their sales to see how they compare to Publix and Walmart.

For some people it is not just about prices, but about over all value. I refuse to buy groceries at Walmart and do my best to not even step foot in one if at all possible. I would rather spend more money and have a better shopping experience at a "local" store with much MUCH better customer service.

Hear, Hear! I totally agree with you on this! I am a Publix-only shopper. I drive by a Winn-Dixie and a Super Walmart to get to "my" Publix. The customer service alone is just so outstanding that I don't care if I pay an extra 10% for my groceries. I can't tell you how many times employees have gone out of their way to help me. Even the manager has bagged my groceries when it's busy and even offered to take them to my car.

I also agree with the other poster who said they though Winn-Dixie's prices are high - so do I! I went in there to get something Publix was out of that I needed, and the WD regular price was about 70 cents higher than Publix's regular price. If I happen to go in there, I spot-check different items and WD's prices are often higher.

Exactly. The store I shop at is a regional locally owned store. The manager is always either on the floor helping stock, helping customers, bagging, helping people to their cars, and more. When he found out my mom was doing cancer treatment over Thanksgiving, he made sure I would get our "free" turkey a week plus early so we could celebrate early. Every employee smiles and greets you when they see you. They get to know their customers (even names).

As such, I would rather support them then a store like Walmart.

My DDs do my grocery shopping for me, and they only go to Super Target (for a few things that are less expensive there) and Publix. DDs are super couponers (not extreme couponers!), so Publix is no more expensive than anywhere else.

I avoid Walmart like the plague! The only reason I ever go there is because my bank has a branch office inside, and it's closer than the nearest actual branch of my bank.

I think you really have to know your prices and watch out. WM in my area is often more expensive on a lot of stuff. You really have to watch it, think about it they have to make money some where. Every once in awhile I check some prices in WM and find some stuff that is more.

I only shop at Publix. It is worth it for me to pay a bit more for a clean store and not to have to wait in line with people who make the "People of Walmart" outrageous photos postings on the internet. I usually buy what is on sale and plan what to eat around that. Publix brands are pretty good too. Of all they offer only one time have I had something that the taste did not measure up.
