Dax, if it's the story I think it is, it makes me cry every time. I don't think posting it with a disclaimer is a bad thing...

Both my boys are from a shelther that unfortunately, has to do euthanasia due to too many animals there. Tycho was scheduled to be euthanized the day after I got him - which is why I skipped over all the other cats for him. My poor darling - someone adopted his brother and left him there to die. I'm so thankful I could bring him home to a new brother.

I just saw the link.
It is definitely very sad BUT it is reality. It certainly doesn't violate any DIS guidelines.
I think it was a good post.

Thank you Alex. A few people have requested the link...If people want i can put it back.....but i am not sure.....

It's totally up to you but as far as the rules on the DIS are concerned it's fine

I decided to put it back. There is enough warning at this point tha I think its safe....Like was said before, a good reality check

Wow. No words to describe that.... just a some tears. I am so glad all 3 of my babies came from shelters or unwanted homes.

Thanks for the reminder... I just dontated via paypal to my local shelter (many areas do this if anyone else is interested... just google your city name and pet shelter).

Very sad but very much a reality.

Both of our dogs are from local shelters.
They are great additions to our family and have both been 'fixed' so that they won't contribute to the growing pet population.

Stories like this one really make me appreciate how lucky we are to have our doggies.
I think I'll go hug 'em now.

That is so sad, but it is the TRUTH. That is why I can never stress enough... Don't buy pets from a store, get them from the shelter, please!

Also, if you love your cat or dog, please, PLEASE take them to a vet & get them "chipped". This puts a microscopic chip inside your dog or cat that lets any pound or vet know if the dog or cat is lost or stolen. It has your address, name, phone #, everything, on that tiny chip. This is another thing I can not over stress! It might cost around $50-$100; but don't you think it's worth your piece of mind if your pet is lost? ID tags are great, but they can easily fall off or be taken off. This chip is permanent & can not be removed by maliscious people!

that is great advice, we had a chip implanted in our lab at the 6 month vet visit.. all of the shelters around here have the scanners

A good link, a real reminder of what happens to far too many pets.

We adopted one of our dogs after she was already scheduled to be put down that day. The shelter workers were so excited that she would not be, I cannot imagine how hard their jobs are. Remember most city shelters don't have the luxury of saying no or the funds to build enough room for all. If you are adopting remember that the kill shelters don't have a choice. :(

www.petfinder.com is a great site to find a new pet.

Our puppy also has a micro chip, really neat technology :)

Dax, my three cats and one of my two dogs all came from shelters. It is sad that this has to happen, and getting the word out, may give others the idea to go to shelters for their pets. Thank you for the link, though it is sad :(
