Public School or Catholic School

I had been trying for three years to get my daughter into our Catholic School with no success. In April they wrote me to tell me that once again, there was no room for her. Last week, I received a phone call that somebody dropped out/moved/whatever and she was being accepted! I was thrilled, even if that does mean I have to get all the financing and the uniform together in a mere two weeks.

So, Catholic for me!!!!! Finally!

It depends. I would always choose a Caltholic School unless there wasn't a good one within a reasonable distance to our house. All considered equal, location and quality of school, I'd go Catholic school.

Neither. Private. That isn't true everywhere, but it's true here.

Catholic school for us. Our public schools are horrible so it wasn't even an option. But I definitely prefer the structure of our Catholic school. :thumbsup2

Around here the private schools and the public schools do about the same on national testing. Some of the private schools have classes just as big as the public schools. But they don't offer as much as the public schools as far as art, industrial tech or even home ec. I've chosen to send my children to public school.
I also like my kids to be around kids of all backgrounds. It gives them another "education" to discover not everyone thinks just like them. :)

Having done both in my area

Public all the way w/o a question. Public offers far more academically in my school district than Catholic ever would.

I can educate my children (if we are blessed) religiously fairly easily. Academics are why we picked the school district we are in. There is absolutely no reason I can find to ever send a child in my district to a Catholic school ever.

I went to public schools all the way through high school but now go to a private school for college. I really don't think there's anything wrong with public schools. Atleast the ones I went to...

Where we live, and for my kids, public. I teach in our CCD program, so I'm very supportive of our parish. But academically it can't meet their needs.

Well with the state of our schools and safety at them here in the city we are very lucky to have our DD in our Catholic school. She's 3rd generation going and it's only 2 blocks away.

We live in a great school District the Catholic Schools can not compete with our public school. The Catholic school kids have a hard time catching up to the kids in our District if they transfer.

Before we bought our home DH & I took all this in to consideration. The taxes VS Catholic/Public school. We are on the border of Delaware the public schools are horrible with a few exceptions. In some areas the Catholic school are the better choice.

The salaries for the Catholic school teachers are very low they seem to get young teachers. When my parents were kids it was a better education with the Nuns & Priests teaching.

My daughter goes to an all girls Catholic school. From Pre K-12. This was the best decision we ever made. The girls are happy and smile when they get out of school. They all play well together. My daughter is learning the same stuff that DH godson is learning in 2nd she is in 1st. I went to this school from 7-12 and my education is far superior than any public school in the area. I am a well rounded individual that knows politics history literature etc.

For those who are Catholics..
My DD10 went to 2 years of catholic school(My DH and I did all 12) it is not like it was 15-20 years ago(at least in our area-I definately cannot say about all areas)
My MIL was a catholic school teacher(she retired this year) and we discussed it with her and decided it was best to enroll our kids in public school.
But like I said..... I am only speaking of the schools in MY immediate area...I am NOT talking about ALL catholic schools.
There are alot of factors to consider....our catholic schools are losing enrollment so because of costs they have cut art, music, sports. and they also seemed to be behind in math and history.
(but the tution keeps going up)

While I think that it varies from town to town and parish to parish, I'd like to speak as a mom who's been through it and urge people not to get caught up in which school has the most AP classes and the fanciest equiptment.

My kids' schools taught them self discipline, good study habits, and good values, which helped them more in college than an extra biology or french class could have. Mind you, not all Catholic schools are worth going to, like I said it depends.

AHHHH...FANTASIA:

Interesting - in my area kids of all faiths and no faith go to our Catholic school. From what I've seen no one thinks exactly the same anymore than they do in public school.

Anywho.... Catholic for my kids. Not a chance they're going to public school.
