I love your trip report!

It is bringing back so many memories of my Senior GS trip to Disneyland and California (I'm from the Chicago area). Our troop could sure sell cookies! It helped that cookie selling was in January and we were able to set up at the airport. You've never seen a group of girls so excited that flights were grounded (captive audience!!)

I can't wait to read more!!

Thanks! I'm glad someone is responding! I felt like I was standing in a room talking to myself.

Our Council sells cookies Jan - March. Too bad it is against our Council rules to sell at the airport, bus, or train stations! Those would be awesome sales.

What year was your Senior trip to CA?

Our trip was spring of 1993.

I think we were one of the last groups to sell at O'Hare. The story I remember is that a religious group had sued the airport over the preferential treatment that some groups received. I remember the first couple years we were able to be in the terminals, after that there was a designated area by check in and security. It was over after that, which was too bad for my little sister who had to raise a ton money, she spent a month in Europe on a Wider Opportunity.

It really is too bad that you can't set up shop in these areas anymore. We raked it in. THIRTY FIVE CENTS at a time!

The signs you made for the car wash are wonderful. I always give more money to troops who have a answer to "What are you fund raising for?"

I'll have to ask my mother if she remembers how much the cookies were a box. For some reason I remember $3, but I could just be making it up. I do remember how tiny the profit was. We were always so happy when someone would just hand us a buck or two. (Which is what I do now :) I don't really care for the cookies and I know how much farther a few dollars goes :) )

My WiderOp wasn't as glamorous as my sisters. I just spent a week in Phoenix at some type of environmental conference.

It is nice to know they are still doing them and what the new name is. I remember how fabulous they were.

Going back to earlier in your post... When I was a freshman and joined a new troop they were in the throws of planning a cruise. My mother wouldn't let me go. I wished she had but I understood her thinking. Most of the girls in my troop were Senior-Seniors and I was just starting high school. Does your council allow you to cruise as an older scout?

This posting also makes me think of a troop we were very friendly with. They were very into camping. Even winter camping....in the midwest. I remember them talking about the trip they were planning and not being envious at all..."um...yeah... that sounds cool.... our troop is going to California and staying in a hotel" :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I am loving you pre trip reports so far. I am a former leader and fromer council field executive. I will be taking my daisy GS to WDW in Januay for her 7th Birthday.

Welcome former leader and former council field exec! Which council?

I'll bet your 7 year old will love it!

I worked for North Alabama and then the alignment happened and it became North Central Alabama and I hightailed it out of there. Things got very ugly during the realignment.

Realignment was hell in our area. We used to be the southernmost portion of GSJTC and were treated like crap because we were soooo far away from the main council office in Bakersfield and when realignment happened someone thoughtfully decided that we would become part of the monster GSGLA so now we are the northernmost part of the council and we are still treated like crap. Unless we plan it nothing is designed for our geographical area. Greater Los Angeles is 101 miles from us and EVERYTHING is planned for down there. It stinks! Plus under realignment most of our knowledgeable senior staffers left and those who remained didn't last very long under the new Council. Thankfully now, two and a half years later, LA just ignores us and we go back to doing our own thing -- just like with GSJTC!
