I am finally going back to WDW/Universal!!! It will also be for a very special occasion, OUR HONEYMOON!!!

Who:
275388_34507975_529501544_n.jpg

My name is Krista, I am 28 I am a certified athletic trainer for a private high school in the area. That guy with my is my wonderful fiance Ken, he will soon be 28 and he is a residence hall director at a university. We are originally from PA and have been living in VA the last 9 months, still getting adjusted. We are getting married June 16, 2012, back in PA and leaving for the honeymoon technically June 17(more on that) but arriving in Orlando June 18 and staying until June 25.

This will be my first trip to WDW/Universal since 2000 and first as an adult. This will be my future DH first ever trip! Makes it even more special.

Next...Where we are staying.

First off we will be staying at the Ramada BWI Arundel Mills in Baltimore for our park, sleep, fly package, which is why I said we technically will be leaving June 17 on the drive from PA down to Baltimore and staying overnight for our early flight on Monday the 18.

As for Disney we are staying at All-Star Sports. This will be my first time staying onsite and am very excited. We picked this resort because we really can only afford a value and plus if you couldn't tell by our picture we are sports nuts, especially football. We are having a football themed wedding centered around our teams which are the WORLD CHAMPION NY Giants(me) and the SF 49'ers(him). I put a request in for the Touchdown building as well as a king bed. I got a 20% pin in an email so I used that as well.

Next...Transportation

Hello! I look forward to reading more about your plans and trip. My husband and I love traveling to Disney.

As for the shoes, have you looked into crocs? I have some leg issues, and they have pairs that really help with circulation in your legs and feet, and they are the most comfortable shoes I have owned. They're having a big 60% off sale right now, and some of their shoes are actually really cute now, and not the big clunky clogs they were before.

As a fellow disney couple, I would suggest maybe splurging and buying the photopass cd. You can get the images from the photopass photographers to print, and if you order it before you're trip it's about $99. The reason I suggest this is, it's the best way to get pictures of the two of you together, without bugging people to take your picture. It is your honeymoon! I regret not doing this, and we only have about 10 pictures together from our last trip. :sad2:

We are flying out of Baltimore using Southwest, we are using Baltimore mainly because it's cheaper than Philly or Norfolk and it works out that we can drive to Baltimore Sunday stay overnight, fly out and then drive back home when we land, even though it's still another 4 or so hours.

Our flights leaves Monday June 18 at 6:30am and arrives in Orlando at 8:40am. Our return flight leaves Orlando at 11:55am and arrives back in Baltimore at 2:05pm, they are both direct flights which is very nice.

We will be renting a car from Dollar, at least at this point as I made a reservation with them using their Orlando City Special and can always cancel the reservation if a better deal comes along closer to our dates. I mainly want the car for the days we are going to Universal and I am really worried about relying on Disney transportation.

Next....Food Plans

There are not any FD promotions out for our time period and still not sure I would take advantage of it if it were to come out for our dates. We would probably save money. We were planning on getting our park tickets thru UT, but if FD came out and I would only be interested in the QSDP as I have no interest in making ADRs or having any sit down TS meals which to me are a waste of time as I want to be on attractions/seeing shows over sitting down to a big meal, plus planning that far out in advance and working fast passes and such around them. In any case right now we are planning CS for lunch and dinner and having breakfast in the hotel room such as granola bars, tasty cakes, crackers and the like. We plan on taking snacks and drinks into the parks and may occasionally get a snack or drink in the park if it a must-have type thing, but mostly will get the "free" cups of water and bring in everything to save money. I am not a huge eater, especially in the hot and humid summer of Orlando so this is where I am not sure the QSDP if it becomes "free" would be worth it if I don't eat all the food anyways. It would be a difference of like $270(more) getting everything thru Disney with the FD than using the 20% off pin and getting tickets thru UT. I am thinking we are going to spend more than the $270 for the both of us OOP but again not sure, we will have 5 Disney days and possibly share meals or I may only getting something small for a meal as I wouldn't have to worry about getting something off the regular menu if I was on a DDP. Would really like suggestions on this, and more than likely it won't even be an issue as I know it's not worth paying for the QSDP vs OOP and FD probably won't be available to GP for our dates.

Next... Itenarary

We are getting 5 day PH for WDW and 2 day base for US/IoA. We plan on making RD every morning except for 1 and staying until the park closes. I plan on getting as much done in a day as humanly possible, going commando, no breaks, no TS meals, fast walking and fast passing our way around. I am not fortunate enough to get to do WDW/US often and need to get my money's worth when I get to go. I know its our honeymoon but we can sleep/rest and that other stuff at home any time we want for free! I am not taking advantage of any EMH's. I have researched the suggested days on TP and crowd calendar for UT and none of the EMH parks were suggested for the best way to plan things.

The plan:

Monday- arrive at MCO 8:40am, hopefully check into room early, will be doing online check in ahead of time, and get to EPCOT by noon, hopefully still can get Soarin FP(probably not likely as Soarin will get more TT crowds and FPs)
Tuesday- US
Wednesday- MK
Thursday- AK and finish MK if need be
Friday-DHS
Saturday-finish EPCOT(non rope drop day), hopefully have some time in evening to swim/relax
Sunday-IoA
Monday- depart back to Baltimore and drive rest of way home

For my planning resources I have been using UT and have bought the Unoffical Guides for WDW and US 2012 editions, using TP.com, especially planning on using the lines site when I get there, and of course the DIS.

Purchasing. Been making here and there purchases for the trip for certain things we will need, ponchos from Bass Pro, luggage tags, luggage locks, holders for pressed pennies, lanyards and other odds and ends. We got a High Sierra backpack as we are backpack people and plan on taking in lots of snacks and drinks, plus other essentials (ponchos, meds, sunscreen etc.), and I wanted to get a nice quality backpack with the extra back support and straps as future DH will have the luxury of lugging it around the parks every day, but I'm pretty sure we will save more money, even if we get stuck in bag checks, etc. We could each still use a few new pairs of shorts, as we both lost a bunch of weight in the past year and don't have much that fit. But been buying sporadically so we should be good by the time I start to pack which will be stressful as I have to pack for a week at home for the week of the wedding and then the week for the honeymoon.

Lastly I am looking for any suggestions or comments to my PTR as I am not sure if I am over planning or being too crazy in my park plan expectations. Thanks and So EXCITED!

First, let me say congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Its such as exciting time. Wedding and honeymoon planning can all be very overwhelming and stressful. Be sure to try and relax and enjoy every bit of it (even the stressful parts)!

There are a million different opinions on how to plan your Disney vacation. Let me give you a little bit of background on my experience with Disney.

DH and I took our first trip in May 2009. We stayed at CBR and had the dining plan. I had every detail of this trip planned out. I had spreadsheets and lists and everything. Well, I got off the airplane with a terrible migraine headache. Luckily our room was ready early and instead of hitting the parks, I hit the bed. Got up the next morning and regrouped. Was going to get back on track. Things were going well until that evening when the rain started. It rained all week long. Not just the typcal Florida downpours and then quit. No, huge stormsystem hung over our heads the entire week. The water retention ponds which were dry when I got there were so full by the end of the week, I could have swam in them. I ended up having to scrap all of my detailed plans and basically wing it in order to work around the weather. I was so upset that the vacation didn't go exactly to plan that it actually caused me great stress (I mean, crawling under the covers in the hotel room crying stress). I had put all that work into putting together my touring plan and it all just fell apart. Once I got over the fact that it wasn't going exactly to plan, I relaxed and just went with it. Although it was a soggy trip, we still have lots of great memories.

DH and I took our 2nd trip in Sept 2010. We stayed at POFQ and had free dining. Other than making ADR's for each night, I did not do nearly as much planning. I had a general outline of which parks we should go to based on our ADR's but we also had park hoppers so we had the freedom to move back and fourth. I have to say that this approach worked so much better for us. I didn't have the stress of feeling like we had to stick to a particular plan and freaking out if that changed. Of course, the weather was much different this time (no rain, but temp was a lot warmer). We actually planned to spend less time in Epcot this trip, but in the end spent more time there compared to other parks. We didn't tire ourselves out as bad. Took time our to relax and still did everything that we wanted to do. Overall, this was a much more relaxing vacation for us.

I'm currently planning my third trip for 6/9 - 6/16. We are staying off site and this time taking our niece and two nephews (ages 8, 10, and 14). This will be their first trip. I know that this time, the parks will be more crowded than my prior trips. However, we are still going to go with a more relaxed approach. We only have one ADR planned and will do counter service meals with the kids. Only set in stone plans we have is 6/10 Star Wars day at DHS and 6/12 we have to be at EPCOT for the kids to take their YES program class.

Based on my trips, this would be my advice:
There is nothing wrong with very detailed planning. However, recongize the fact that there are a lot of things that could happen to throw off even the best made plans. If that happens, don't let it stress you out and ruin your week. Just go with it.

I will say that I was not prepared for the amount of walking that we would be doing. I thought I was prepared but wow you really do a lot of walking! My feet were killing me after the first couple of days of both trips. Your plans seem pretty aggressive to me (fast walking/commando style touring). Just be prepared to really take care of your feet and legs (make your new hubby give you a nice foot massage). If you really overdo it too much the first few days it can really slow you down later in the week.

I know you said that you don't have any ADR's but it is your honeymoon. I would try and find somewhere nice to have a special dinner. It seems that you are being very budget concious but you could probably find a nice restaurant that won't break the bank. We ate at the Grand Floridian Cafe during our Sept 2010 trip and really liked it. It was nice to explore the Grand Floridian (which I will probably never afford to say at) and to have a nice dinner. You can view menus and prices on Disneys website. Also you can read views on Allears.net.

Good luck with your planning and I'm sure that you'll have a magical wedding and honeymoon!

Thanks, I am very aware of all the walking and once the weather becomes more consistent and the time changes to have more daylight I plan on walking every day, we are both in pretty good physical condition as far as endurance as we go to gym 5 days a week and do cardio training regularly, and once it starts to get hot down here I want to try to walk more to get used to everything and figure out which shoes work best. I am hoping nothing crazy happens when we get down there but I know it's always a possibility. I still don't think we will be doing any big dinners, it's just not us, we aren't the romantic dinner type couple and I don't think either of us would enjoy a sit down meal, we'd be happier grabbing a burger and fries at a CS and on our way to the next ride or show. Thanks for all your input though and taking the time to respond.

I understand about the TS meals. We had the dining plan in the past and in both trips used two dining credits to eat at the Yachtsman Steakhouse signature restaurant (I saw it on one of Samantha Browns travel shows). We wanted a special anniversary dinner but I have to admit we were a little uncomfortable at first with the atmosphere. The waiter actually took this little comb looking thing and scraped the bread crumbs off of our table cloth before our entrees arrived! It really is a little too fancy schmancy for us but the steaks were so good that we went back on our second trip. (Don't think I would pay OOP for it though).

If you are in Downtown Disney, I heard Earl of Sandwhich is great and I believe that is CS. Never been there myself but we have friends that love it and go there on every trip. Also, if you like icecream, you have to try Ghiradellihi in Downtown Disney. Its so good. For me, that place is total heaven! (I'd take that over a fancy steak dinner any day!).

In regards to the walking. I will admit that I have terrible feet. I'm still trying to find a pair of shoes that works for me so I have an easier time this coming up trip. My problem wasn't not being in shape or having the endurance. Mine was that my feet got so many blisters that I could hardly stand to walk on them. I knew I'd be walking more than usual so I did like you did and started walking as much as possible in the months leading up to the trip. I wore the same shoes that I planned to wear in the parks. Didn't have a problem with blisters at all. We have season passes to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg (I see you are in Norfolk, so you might be familiar with BG) and went several times that spring before I went to WDW. Wore the same shoes, no problems. Not sure what it is about Disney (maybe its the difference in heat and humidity) but my feet blistered like crazy. I really wasn't prepared for how bad it was. It was a little better second trip but still pretty bad. DH didn't have a single blister and I was hobbling around all week (I was so jealous). I plan to follow advice given to me by others on these boards: Switch out your shoes; wear sneakers earlier in the day and change to flip flops/comfy sandles in the afteroon when you feel are going to be more swollen. Buy sneakers a 1/2 size larger than you would a dress shoe. I am also going to invest in some really good moistuer wicking socks this time. I'm actually hoping to go shoe shopping this weekend and start breaking them in (Wish me luck!). I certainly hope that you have better luck than I have!

Oh, and I saw in your earlier post about taking back packs with you. We do the same thing. Usually the DH will carry a back pack and I will carry a smaller bag for items that we will use the most often during the day (park passes, band aids, hand sanitizer, park maps, pain reliever, cell phones, etc). I use the LL Bean Carryall bag and really love it. The only thing is that I don't actually use the little credit card slots. Anything of that nature I put in a zipper pocket to make sure it can't fall out. Most of the rides at Disney have compartments to put your bags. I've found that this bag fits pretty well into those compartments. (Oh, and don't forget to take some ziplock bags with you to protect anything that you don't want to get wet in water rides!)

Yeah I just moved to Norfolk not too long ago and haven't had the time to go to BG yet since we moved, been there many years ago. I have body glide, mole skin and Champion socks with support and moisture wicker bought for the trip, got new Columbia sandals I need to break in and a newer pair of sneakers too. I never been one to get blisters, I usually have more with swelling and pain, so have foot relief cream for that and of course plenty of ibprofin/aleve. My future DH got this lanyard thing(it was used for a name tag) from a conference he recently went to and it has a zipper compartment in it that I plan on using for park tickets, CC, DL, FP and cash, so it won't be easy to lose or get ripped off, thinking of tying it to a belt loop or bra strap maybe to make sure its secure, one of his co-workers is supposed to give him his so he can do the same for his DL/CC/etc. So all I plan on carrying is the camera bag, lanyard and cell phone. I don't think we are going to get time to go to DTD, at least it's not in the works for right now, but if we get the time we might check it out. I feel like I have a lot of the major planning done already and it's the waiting that's killing me, luckily my mom is taking care of a lot of the wedding stuff because we are getting married back home in PA so she is the go between to meet with bakery/bridesmaids for dresses/hall,etc. I got my dress over Xmas so my job is done lol, totally not a girly girl for the wedding planning hence the football theme, but since my mom is helping with the wedding planning. I'm pretty low stress as of right now and most of the major planning is done for that as well (come June 1st not so sure what stress level will be). So only time to wait now, which is no fun, trying to stay busy and keep up on any new updates on the DIS. Thanks

I feel like I have a lot of the major planning done already and it's the waiting that's killing me,

I know how you feel! I'm so anxious for my trip, I can't hardly stand it. Its all that I think about lately. June can't get here fast enough.

We are same state neighbors. I live in Lynchburg which is about 4 1/2 hours from Norfolk/Va Beach. We head that way several times a year. We usually vacation at Sandbridge Beach which is part of Va Beach. I love the area down there, just not the traffic. I can't drive through the tunnels (major phobia of knowing I'm under the water) so whenever we go through them DH has to drive and I shut my eyes until I see day light again. We also hit up Williamsburg multiple times of the year, mainly for Busch Gardens. If you are into halloween and doing haunted houses, you need to check out Busch Gardens during Howl-O-Scream. Its so much fun (and scary). We go at least twice every year just for that.

That's cool, yeah I am still getting used to all the tunnels and being surrounded by water. I hate the traffic too, I was from a small town no cities close by so never had to deal with traffic. I absolutely do not like halloween or haunted houses, I am a total scaredy cat when it comes to haunted houses/horror movies etc. But I am a big fan of thrill rides and love the coasters at BG. When my parents come to visit sometime in July we are going to make a trip up, hopefully we can make a just us trip before then before summer hits when it's not as crowded though, I feel like we are wasting the opportunity for being so close and not getting season passes and going more. We have been to the outlets in Williamsburg twice and really like those though.

Bought our tickets from UT on Wednesday and got to do the double digit dance this past Monday. We adopted a puppy last week so she has been helping the time go faster. Here's Xena:

[/IMG] March Madness is helping time go by as well. 3 months til the wedding!

Well some big changes will be coming before the wedding and honeymoon so now really getting stressed as we are a month out from the wedding. We will be moving in 2 weeks or so but we do not know where yet, but we have had enough with Virginia. Hopefully all goes well on my DF job interview next week back at a college at home(PA) even though it's 2 hours from friends and family it's better off than we are now. If he doesn't get that job offer, he will be accepting the offer he received from a university in North Carolina, farther from home but the job offer is hard to refuse. Finished with work as of tomorrow so that helps some, try to get more packing done this weekend, then home next week to get last minute wedding details finished, and back to VA to finish packing and get ready to move, we should know by May 29th where we are going. I know it's all going to work out no matter where we go but it's just the added stress of moving with then packing and planning for a wedding and honeymoon on top of it. I just want to move, get married and be in Disney already!
