PTR-Cheating on Mickey w/Harry!...OMG! Only a month to go!

I am not sure if they will keep the Italian Regional Lunches or not.... Are they only offering them since the French lunches cannot be offered this year? Next year will they have both?

Something to consider in your planning...

Oh my, how to choose. I think you should extend your trip so you can go to them all :scratchin

I already had to move the thing up two days to accomodate my regular life! I'll just have to go back next year! How convenient! I have a trip planned with the folks on the Games boards!

I'd have a hard time choosing between Italian and Mexican my two favs. All the events sound good so you can't go wrong. Happy planning!

I think it will come down to timing that will make the deciding factor and which is available when I call at 4AM in two weeks.

Who knows? Maybe they will have both next year. I don't see why not. More money for them! :confused3

In the last week in July we had the good fortune to use up some of our holding points at the GCH. The Villas were booked solid, but at least they had some hotel rooms available. We booked this back when Arline was still staying with us knowing that we both needed a break after all the work we had put into getting her place ready for moving in. It was supposed to be a fun and relaxing trip for the two of us and for the most part it was. The least relaxing part was that the car was not loaded the day before so I spent most of the afternoon getting the car loaded up and ready to go.

As usual at 5:00PM we were taking off to go check in. Just once I would like to get there before the room is ready! We arrived about 6PM, traffic was a nightmare and they were able to check us in. Fran asked about the upgrade to concierge and after speaking to someone in back, they upgraded us! Score! I headed off to the room while Fran looked at the gift shop.

So this was our view, not bad.

And then there was our room. I was amazed that we got one of the very few King Size beds at the GCH.

I just love the shower curtains at this resort!

DSCN5497.jpg

As usual Fran lay down on the bed as soon as she got to the room. I was ancy because I wanted to check out the lounge. I’d heard all about it from my FB group, even seen some pictures, but was dying to get first hand knowledge. Since she wasn’t going anywhere soon, I decided to go up to the Concierge lounge and get a glass of wine. I grabbed some uncrustables for her, but they were in between Happy Hour and Dessert service, so I was content with my glass of wine.

I went back to the room and badgered her to leave. Finally around 7:30ish we left. Now this place is trying to keep in character with the Buena Vista Street revision, so it was very subdued and classy in a very retro sort of way.

Here is the bar area

There is another room off to the side where you are waited on by the staff and don’t have to sit at or near the bar.

Back in the room with the bar, they have a tableside cocktail prep cart. It is stored underneath caricatures of the nine old men.

[Next up choices, choices, choices!]

[Continued from Previous Post]

We chose a seat tucked away in a corner and started to peruse the menu.

DSCN5501.jpg

Our server informed us that a mix of olives comes complimentary so Fran enjoyed that.

[Next What did we choose?]

[Continued from Previous Post]

So we settled in and ordered a couple drinks. Fran got the Hemingway Daquiri

DSCN5503.jpg

DSCN5502.jpg

I got the Carthay Martini with Vodka

DSCN5504.jpg

Now this is one of the special drinks prepared tableside. They start off with a cylinder of ice.

DSCN5505.jpg

He puts the cylinder of ice into this nifty little machine.

DSCN5508.jpg

Meanwhile he’s mixing up my drink.

DSCN5509.jpg

Then he sprays a mist of Vermouth into the rim of the glass.

DSCN5511.jpg

My “ice cube” is ready.

DSCN5510.jpg

DSCN5512.jpg

He pours the drink.

DSCN5514.jpg

And here it is all completed

DSCN5515.jpg

So as I said, Fran went off and ordered us four appetizers right off the bat. We really should have waited after two, but oh well we got to try a lot more this way. First was the Vietnamese Twice Cooked Beef Tacos with Pineapple-Mint Salsa.

DSCN5517.jpg

We had the Duck Confit Sliders with Apricot Conserve, Watercress, Crisp Onions and Taleggio Cheese.

DSCN5518.jpg

For our “veggie” we had the Jumbo Asparagus with American Proscuitto, Toasted Pine Nuts and Parmesan Aioli.

DSCN5519.jpg

And finally the Lobster Pad Thai Imperial Roll with Cashew Tamarind Sauce.

DSCN5520.jpg

I’d say for a place that doesn’t serve “dinner” we had a pretty good feast.

DSCN5521.jpg

Before we took off, I had one more drink

DSCN5525.jpg

DSCN5523.jpg

It was quite tasty! The Bourbon wasn’t strong at all and it had a nice warm kick to it.

And just for good measure I’ll thrown in this pic that I just happened to have sitting around. :rolleyes1 This is Roasted Lamb Meatballs with Tzatziki and Peperoncini

DSCN5427.jpg

After that we waddled out of there to check out some more of Carsland at night!

Is this 1901 a new club in DCA? Your pics are amazing. It looks like a nice night thus far and I'm glad your got Fran out of the room. Nice score on the king bed. :thumbsup2

Everything looks absolutely amazing. The drinks, the food, the ambience!

Thanks for sharing.

I'm drooling over the asparagus and all the other goodies. Very cool!

Love the look of the place. Sorry you were off to a late start but the evening sounded lovely. How late was DL open?

Nice view of DCA. Great pictures from the new club. All of the food looks so great.

Thank you for sharing Alison.

Alison....

O...M...G... that is another place I have to visit... The food and the drinks... The two you ordered would be mine also.

How was the grapefruit with the bourbon? Hmm, might have to try that soon!

The food, looks amazing, the duck sliders would have been my choice also, David would have got the lobster roll....

Hmm, I am so hungry right now!

It is one of the "perks" of the upgraded membership. It was definitely part of our decision to upgrade, not so much because of the lounge itself, but the fact that we didn't want to "not be allowed" somewhere. It's actually going to be a nice perk, no reservations required, just drop by for a spell.

I can't wait to go back again. There's a few more things on the menu I'd like to try!

We shall have to go there when you come down over Labor day!

I think both parks were open until midnight, but since we planned an early start, we called it a night pretty early on.

You're welcome! :goodvibes

When you come out here, I'll be happy to take you. The grapefruit with the Bourbon was really good, but the honey was the thing that really clinched the deal. The drink was not sweet at all, but the honey rounded it out really nicely so there was no acidic flavor, just harmony.

After our dinner in the lounge, we headed over to Carsland. It had been over a month since opening and at least six weeks since we had been to the preview. We only had passes for the preview from 1-5PM. I’m sure we could have hung out later (Disney rarely throws people out), but we were tired and hungry and wanted to get home, so we did not see Carsland once it was all lit up, so I wanted to do that on this night.

We entered from the closest point to where we were rather than going to the “stunning” entrance. Here is the first stop on the road through Radiator Springs.

The Cozy Cone Motel. You’ll have to excuse all the blurry people who walked through my pictures. This place was packed, and it was a Wednesday night.

While Fran was shopping, I caught the fireworks from Disneyland, and then we headed back to the room. It was after 10PM, and we had a very early start planned for the morning.

Day 2

I set the wake up call for 5:45AM :scared1: For those of you who know me pretty well, this is highly unusual! :rotfl2: But we were on a mission. We laid in bed for about half and hour watching the local news and then got dressed and headed up to the CL. Everyone else was there too! Magic Mornings were available to all hotel guests and at 7AM everyone could get into the parks. We ate a leisurely breakfast knowing that as long we were IN the FP line at park opening we could ride.

I didn’t take any pictures because it was just the same as it always has been. Cappucino, Orange Juice, Frosted Flakes, and a bagel with salami, along with some fruit. Fran has a little different version, but basically the same thing.

I needed to get something back in the room so she went ahead to get in line. I was only about a minute or two behind her, because I saw her in front of Soarin’ when I came around the corner from the GCH entrance. I stopped to take some pictures of the crazy FP line. Thanks to Matt, Brett and Kimberly for clueing me in on how insane this line was!

DSCN5540.jpg

DSCN5541.jpg

Notice how the line snakes around here….

DSCN5542.jpg

DSCN5544.jpg

:scratchin OK now, where is she????

DSCN5545.jpg

Oh! There she is!!!!!

DSCN5548.jpg

This was at 7:45AM. The line started to move around 8AM. You should have seen the looks on the people’s faces who were just entering the park and wanting to get FPs and seeing how long the line was. I’m sure it kept growing for quite some time. We invested 50 minutes in line and each used one of our magic FPs and our entrance tickets to get FPs. We could have received four more FPs, but I didn’t think I wanted to ride eight times in one day. Fran decided that she felt queasy and didn’t want to ride. Instead she would go shopping.

DSCN5550.jpg

I should have taken a picture of the sign, Stand By was 180 minutes and Single Rider was 70 minutes. This was my walk on with a FP.

DSCN5551.jpg

Stanley looked nice

DSCN5552.jpg

There sure were a lot more coins in here than the last time I’d been through.

DSCN5553.jpg

I wonder how long these poor people have been waiting!

DSCN5554.jpg

Finally at the front of the queue, this was my first time of loading at this part of the queue since the last time I did the handicapped loading area.

The race

DSCN5571.jpg

DSCN5572.jpg

DSCN5573.jpg

DSCN5574.jpg

I couldn’t tell who won, but either way it was fun. At the start of the ride, while we were on our way out of the loading area. I felt my Cell phone ring, but I wasn’t going to answer it. I listened to the voicemail after I got off the ride, and it was the nursing home. You all know what happened, but they wanted to call 911 and take Arline back to the hospital, so I told them to go ahead.

I knew that it would take a while before they got her picked up, across the street, into a bed and diagnosed, so I used my other FP that was good between 8:35 and 9:35AM. I called Fran to find out where she was and lo and behold, she was shopping! Big shocker there! She bought me a pair of white gold Disney Dreams Earrings to go along with my white gold castle pendant, herself a watch, and then we headed back to the room.

By this time the Doctor called me back and told me what was going on. Fran was going to have drive back to the hospital that afternoon anyways, to get her daily infusion of antibiotics at 1PM. So we just decided for both of us would go along. Turns out after making a bunch of different turns and stuff, she realized that both Disneyland and Los Alamitos Hospital were on Katella Blvd! Duh! All we had to do was drive several miles down Katella and pretty soon the hospital was upon us. She dropped me off at emergency and then found a parking space.

She popped her head into emergency, then headed off to the section of the hospital for her drugs, while I waited for Patric and Carrie, who arrived about 15 minutes later. After about an hour Fran came back and it was clear that nothing could be done on our part, so we decided to head back. We got back just as the window for the FPs were closing. Supposedly it’s only at WDW where they check the end times so I guess I would have been OK. I rode the ride two more times, I think I got Luigi once and Ramon once. I like the track for Ramon better, you get a little better angle on the car, but Luigi’s new tires are a more cute scene in the showroom. It was much hotter than the overcast morning ride earlier in the day, and I was regretting not wearing my Princess ball cap.

Since my FPs were all used up, I decided to go have another drink at the lounge. I was saving my appetite for dinner that night, but luckily I chose wisely and my drinks came with a snack. I ordered the flight of Tequila. The one on the right is a Silver Agave, the middle one is actually a Mezcal and the left is an Anejo tequila (which means it’s aged in Oak barrels just like wine). The last glass, beer snacks.

DSCN5578.jpg

DSCN5582.jpg

It was a nice little drink, but by then it was 5:30 and I told Fran I would be back at the room my quarter to six to start getting dressed for dinner.

Deal! This sounds really good, when you go back maybe they will give you the recipe!!!!

The ride looks great and the night shots are beautiful. I love it that the RS is on the side all alight.

That line is ridiculous, I wonder how long it takes to run out of FPs?

Drinks and snacks are a very good way to start the evening off. That Tequila looks very drinkable.

Nice update to your trip awhile back. Glad that you and Fran got to enjoy Cars Land at night after going to the preview in June.

When I looked at your pictures of the RSR FP line that morning, weren't all the guests including the MM and non-mm guests were in the line at 7:45am in that picture? If so looks like I will have to plan to get in the FP queue early next week during my trip.

The line is ridiculous, and Matt & Bret both said that the FPs are usually gone by 9:30AM. Normally I'm just waking up around that time, so I knew I had to take advantage of us staying out there to get on the ride. Our magic FPs work as long as FPs are still available for the ride, once they're gone we can't get them for that attraction.

That would be lovely! Is there a dress code? I need to know what to pack.:rotfl2:

There is no dress code in the lounge. You can just stop by for a drink and a snack. The host told us some people come in just to use the restroom because it is cleaner than all the rest in the park! :lmao:

From Kimberly's report she said you could get in the line before the park opened. The FPs didn't start until the park opened to other guests (8AM, but I imagine that once you go in the park at 7AM you can get in the line.
