PTR-Cheating on Mickey w/Harry!...OMG! Only a month to go!

That is some serious food porn Alison. I take it you took the big guns out tonight for those shots?

I want me some of that venison and the dessert.

And yes, I still want to go to NR with you....even if you and Fran are so obviously on the Top 10 Most Wanted list at Disney Dining!

So totally worth the wait for them pictures. :lovestruc

Hey Alison,
I hope you are feeling ok after the chiropractor. Is it one of those treatments where you feel better right away or do you have a day or two of being uncomfortable before things settle down?

You haven't mentioned the door project (or I have forgotten) so explain away. :)

--Sarah

Actually my chiropractor does very different treatments, he identifies the muscles that have the ailments and instead of doing adjustments, he concentrates on strengthening the related muscles through weight based working out. He only does "passive" treatments (ie adjustments) for patients who are not healthy enough for "active" treatment meaning working out. While I actually prefer the adjustments like my guy in Sherman Oaks did, I don't want to drive an hour for his treatments. What this guy has been doing actually seems to work so I keep going back twice a week.

Over 30!! Well gosh darn it I qualify. :rotfl2: I've even got aches and pains to gripe about. Heck I'd pretend to be older for bacon. Yum.

My wife made bacon infused bourbon last week. Topped with maple and Kahlua egg foam. She called it the All Night Breakfast. I called it delicious with a side of waffles.

Wow! that sounds pretty amazing, you would do well on the Old Fogies Thread, Grumpy Pirate is always pushing rum, but your bacon infused bourbon sounds awesome, I heard about some of that on the Food Network. That sounds a like a very confusing drink, but pretty good! :thumbsup2

Geez! All these treads talk about bacon and eggs. Now I am starving. I have alot aches Not sure where they begin and end. Neither does my chiroprator:lmao:

Did you get in before or after my food porn updates hit? Check it out if not, you would probably like them.

Actually that was my same Nikon P&S, but I tried different angles this time thanks to you! :thumbsup2 OMG the Venison was so good, but I had to make a decision as to whether or not try and finish it since I knew dessert was coming, it was really good for breakfast this morning.

Am I crazy or not I really think they have a list of certain people because we have had too many times dining when people seemed to know us when they shouldn't...:confused3 :rolleyes1

I tried, but when you see my explanation of the door with pictures you'll proabably understand....

Funny you should ask that I was on one of our other famous threads and PIO mentioned bacon and eggs. Then I remembered your update for the food. So I strolled over here. Well all I saw was someone mentioning the doctor. It was loading your pics as I was posting. But that food looked amazing. I am sure PIO would have joined you if she knew you were eating mac and cheese with the truffles. Then the darn menu mentioned bacon. I was like sheezz. I cant escape bacon can I?:lmao: Should not have eaten what I just did ( a piece of pizza ) Oh well it satisfied my hunger. I like my chriopractor. I just went to him and all he could was massage me as I was in so much pain. My sciatic nerve is acting up. Along with my lower back.It takes about a good solid week of doing nothing and laying down for it to go away. But I am greatful it could be worse I go through.

I'm glad your chiropractor works for you. I like the one in Sherman Oaks better than the local one, but it beats driving an hour for service!

He gives golfers the special. He plays golf so he gives them a big discount, which helps because I pay out of pocket.

I'm planning on fried rice for dinner tonight. I better get off my bahookie and start to organise dinner soon.

It must be close on bedtime for you ladies? Or are you planning another late night?

Wow!!

AMAZING pictures!!! Your meal looked way to good to be devoured! :lmao: One day, we'll do the counter!

They actually have a good selection of Wines from what I could read! :thumbsup2

Glad you had such a great time! :goodvibes

Oh no it was so delectable it HAD to be devoured! Ever since I first sat there, it's been the only place I sit. It's so fun to talk to the chef and he gives you little tastes, he even did that the first time we sat there when he didn't know us at all.

I can't wait to hear about your trip next week. I hope it goes better than your last!

So to clearly understand the door project, one needs a little background information. When I moved in with Fran, I had my own cats which would not have blended well with her herd. So to remedy the situation we decided to give the tenants in the apartment next door 60 days notice, my cats would move in there and we would alternate every other night between the two apartments.. Those kitties are long gone, but we continued to alternate because we had changed the bathtub in Apt 1, so my only place to take a bath and relax was Apt. 2.

Then in the summer of 2006 we invited our friend who was diagnosed with terminal cancer to live there until the time came that he needed hospice style care. He only stayed a few months and had to go home to his father and step girlfriend in Tulare and passed a few months later. We didn't really go back to the alternating sleeping after that and mainly used it as a place for guests to stay.

Well about a year and a half ago my FIL passed away leaving behind his sweet cat Olga. We brought her over to our place and it was clear this was NOT going to work. Our cats continued to terrorize her, to them it was curiosity, to her it was war. About two weeks later we went on our last trip to WDW. Our cat sitters tried to get her in the house. It poured rain the whole time we were gone but she would rather be out in the rain than live with the other cats. Well somehow she found Apt 2 and one day I found her in there asleep on the bed happy as a clam.

We had tried to find her a one cat home, but all our friends already had cats so we realized this was the perfect solution and about a year ago went back to our alternating nights between Apartments 1 & 2. Well since we have our loan and it is a pretty long walk from the front door of Apt 1 to Apt 2 and Fran has trouble with the step from the back doors, she decided if I could have a necklace, she could have a door. So the door project was begun. We contacted the contractor who remodeled the apartment upstairs that had laid vacant for over a year due to the fact that we couldn’t find reliable workers to get it ready for rental.

He was happy to give us a quote on breaking through a wall in one of our bedrooms into the living room of the other apartment to add a door making our home a five bedroom house with two kitchens a living room, dining room, family room and three bathrooms and four entrances. Actually we will lose a bedroom and it will become a total walk in closet.

Sounds easy right? Well no, Fran has been a compulsive buyer since I met her and eBay has not helped at all. Combined with her disability and lack of ability to go out anywhere she has embraced online shopping like no one else. There was a time when the UPS guys were bringing 6-10 boxes every day! :scared1: There was the Civil War phase where she bought enough instruments, uniforms, hats, mess gear everything you would need to outfit a CW band of any size and she was planning big, also wanted to make sure she could fit any size of person, so we had tons of uniforms.

Then once the CW band went into extinction she decided we would get into Cowboy Action Shooting, so she bought everything that we would need (or at least her) for any size and a Scottish Impression, a Western Impression, an Indian Impression and everything inbetween. Then there was the swing band, buying dinner jackets and boater hats. All the while as she was buying stuff she said, “Put this somewhere.” So here is “somewhere”.

So when she decided that we needed a door (which I mentioned years ago, but her father would never have let us do it more or less let us use the money) I almost fainted. :faint: So a couple weeks ago we started boxing up all this stuff and putting it in her father’s empty motorhome garage. We must have boxed up 30-40 jackets, I can’t even imagine how much western wear for the CAS (Cowboy Action Shooting) and other stuff that we found, it was just insane.

Here is the room yesterday. Can you see the resemblance?

This is the other side of the wall

DSCN0330.jpg

Yesterday we emptied that cabinet and today we got rid of everything else including the plants and other stuff. The construction guys will move the cabinet to the other wall. This is what they used to look like.

DSCN0332.jpg

And these are the emptied bookcases that will be moved so that the china cabinet can fit there. We had to move all the paper that was in front of the china cabinet before we could empty it and we did that yesterday! Whew!

So, the contractor is coming on Wednesday and hopefully WE are done and all that needs to be done is that his people will move stuff and start construction, but we’ll see. I hope that I can post the new pictures of the door soon and then when we end up in Apt 2 without underwear, we don’t have to walk outside to go replenish, but can just walk through a door in the house. :rotfl2:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

When you told me that Fran was a compulsive shopper, I had an idea....but clearly I had no clue.

I can see the monumental effort you've gone through...but what are you going to do with all that stuff once the contractor is done?

:confused3

That's the problem. I have no idea what we will do with it. We have three 10x20 storage lockers costing $220 per month. That's $2500 x 3 a year to keep stuff she will never use! :scared1: Our doctor is even aware of her problem and pointed it out as "hoarders syndrome" but what do you do? Like alcoholism half the problem is admitting you have a problem.

On the bright side, she likes to buy me stuff so I have a whole lot of jewelry and Disney clothes, hence the need to turn the bedroom into a walk-in closet. I mean the five closets in our bedrooms are not enough. :rotfl2:

I mean... I thought my dad was bad, but that's just boggling to me. I honestly don't know if I could live in a house like that. I HATE clutter, though.

Tell me about it. Not that I like it but it has just come down to it. I really like everything in it's place but when you love someone you sort of go with the flow. At first everything was nice and in its place. Once she got the RA diagnonsis there were slight problems. I don't remember when the total hoarding thing started, probably around the time her mother started dying. I think it was a reaction to that when she went insane on buying on eBay. To her credit she is listing stuff to sell stuff, but we just had a small "thing" where we excahnged words. I hate this, but she gets so heated that I'm the one who is causing problems, while I'm thinking I don't mind that you constantly order stuff we don't need. I mean we are looking for a home theater system that she ordered that we misplaced. How many people misplace a home theather system. I know where two others are, but not the one that has been misplaced, is that insane or what? I can't tell you how many other things that we have or put in "sell" boxes for the estate sale. We will have to dig them out and put them around the house bcause if we hire a company to sell the stuff we can't have 50 boxes labeled "sell" sitting in the house. They will know that we just unloaded our crap on the house, but how do explain that a couple in their 80's has routers, sling boxes and other such items of technology!

((((Sigh))))

It's not like this is the worst part of of our life that I have had to endure in fact we are getting to the gym often and hopefully I will be losing weight and feeling better so this whole hoarding chapter will start to take a back burner. In fact we sold a whole bunch of stuff on Ebay this weekend. Granted it was DVDs but it signifys that Fran is willing to get rid of stuff hopefully the larger stuff will start to go in the future and we will get rid of all the crap!

When my dad passed away, my mom started her own type of "hoarding"...she would online shop for food...so in the beginning she would be getting shipments twice a week from a variety of places all over the country..cookies, cakes, bars, candy, etc, etc and it wasn't helping her at all, and did in fact cause some major health problems.

About a year ago, I stuck it to her (you HAVE to in order for them to HEAR you) and said "she was never gonna live long enough to see any grandchildren from me or my brother if you keep this up." There was a lot more to it, but that was what pretty much got her started walking on her treadmill, started eating at least 3 meals everyday, and maybe orders baked goods once a month and gives the majority of it away.

So I 'somewhat' understand how you feel...helpless and upset. I hope it gets it better for you :goodvibes and from the sound of it (fran selling her DVD's), it sounds like she's getting on the right track! :thumbsup2

Hi Alison. I miss reading your thread! But, I haven't been on the computer much at all lately...I explained this on Leshaface's thread, so here is what I wrote on hers:

I know I haven't been on here for a while (well, a while for ME anyway ;)), but I have been in a lot of pain in the last couple of weeks. I have been to the doctor several times, and then I went for an MRI. I have a herniated disk in my cervical spine (neck). It's pressing on a nerve root which is why I am in so much pain. It affects my right shoulder, arm and hand (and I am a righty :sad2:). I haven't been to work all week, but the doctor said I can try to go back tomorrow and see how I am, for now.

I have to see a surgeon. The herniation is very bad and I already took a 6-day course of a steroid anti-inflammatory. I made an appointment with a neurosurgeon (at the recommendation of my orthopedist), for next Thursday. He is world-renowned. I am most likely going to have to have surgery to repair this. Gone are the days of intense exercise for me. I will have to change my whole activity lifestyle because of this. No more Test Track or Big Thunder either. :sad2:

So, I am scared and nervous of course. I was a wreck when they told me yesterday. But I also feel relieved that they found the cause of my pain, and it can be corrected.

Alicia,
I meant to comment on your post for the past few days...thanks for understanding. We've been busy trying to get it all done before Monday. She is doing good putting more stuff on eBay, it's barely a dent, but better than nothing!

Bonnie,
As I said on Leshaface's thread, so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but at least you know what's going on now.

The door project begins next week and then at the end of the following week we'll be on our way to my folks house to see my mom's irises in bloom and attend her sake tasting.

I am so happy that you enjoyed Napa Rose, the food looked wonderful.

This might be inappropriate but have you seen the show hoarders? I love this show. It actually inspires me to clean my place because I am terrified that it will end up like one of the places on the show. We actually live in a unit the size of a shoebox, so I can't let our place gather too many things otherwise there is no room to move, so I am really strict about the things we bring in.I am glad that fran does part with some things, it bodes well for the future.

Good luck with the door project!
