Here's the scoop: I was walking my dog yesterday when a neighbor 3 doors down from me came storming down the street with her 3 yr old in tow, screaming "Really, Really??" while motioning wildly with her arms in the direction of my next door neighbor's house, who wasn't home and his 2 dogs were loudly barking. Windows were open and the dogs are rather large pit bulls. A delivery truck(Schwans) had just pulled up and was making his way on foot down the street, and the dogs were upset. Psycho neighbor says to me, "Are they even home?" to which I reply "No", and walk away. She then proceeds to stomp over in front of the open window and screams at the dogs several times to" shut-up, be quiet." It only serves to make the dogs even more disturbed and they continue to bark and growl louder. Psycho storms off muttering to herself back to her house.
I'm just kind of shaking my head, finish walking my dog, and on the way back, see her storming back with a spray bottle in her hand! She still has her little girl with her while she goes up to the window and sprays the dogs!:scared1: By this time the dogs are worked up into a frenzy, and she marches angrily back to her house in a huff.

Now, I never said anything directly to her, because first of all, I was shocked, secondly, she was raging and I was hesitant to confront her. When my neighbor with the dogs came home, I did make them aware of what happened, because I would have wanted someone to let me know if it had happened to my dog, and I was concerned that the dogs may have gotten so angry, that they would have broken through the screen and attacked.

Later that night neighbor with the dogs confronted psycho. Not good. She starts ranting that I was lying, that I was the on complaining about the dogs and she only stood far back on the sidewalk sprayed them a little because that's how she disciplines her dog:eek: She was loud enough that I heard , so I went outside, confronted her and told her that she was the one who was lying. She then began throwing personal insults at me.

I was shaking, I was so angry:mad::mad::headache:! She was trying to bully me into backing down, but I stood up to her and defended myself. Neighbor with the dogs, said he wasn't taking sides because since he wasn't there, he didn't know what really happened, even though psycho admitted she sprayed the dogs.

So, I now realize why people don't want to become involved. :sad2:

sounds to me like she's tired of listening to barking dogs.

oh that's awful. Obviously that neighbor is disturbed so I think it would be wise to avoid leaving your own windows open and don't leave your own lovely collies unattended where she can get to them. Who knows what was in that bottle she used to spray the pit bulls with... maybe it wasn't water. People have been known to hurt other people's pets and what you witnessed shows it's not outside this person's comfort range.

A normal person would have just approached the neighbor and asked him to please close the windows because the dogs bark when they are out. If the neighbor still does it step 2 is call the police about the problem. Nowhere in my world does trespass and assault another person's pet have a step.

I your neighbor has a problem with barking dogs, she needs to take it up with animal control. Trespassing on someone's property and spraying into someones house can land her in legal trouble.

No good deed goes unpunished, that's for sure ... a somewhat similar situation happened to me with a neighbor ... her kids & their friends were playing dangerously in the street with their bikes (i.e. flipping over the handlebars of their bikes into a piles a leaves) and not paying any attention to oncoming traffic ... so thinking I was doing a good thing because there was apparently no adult supervisor anywhere to be had, I told the kids to stop before someone got hurt or worse ... they ignored me ... so when I witnessed a car having to stop short, nearly hitting them, I told them again to stop and go home ... well wouldn't you know it, in the next five minutes, here comes their mother from down the street yelling at me that "it wasn't any of my business what the kids were doing", because they weren't "on my property" blah blah blah ... I was dumbfounded with her reaction and then proceeded to tell her what her kids were actually doing and I "apologized" for looking out for the well-being and safety of her unsupervised kids & their friends and "promised" I would never do it again ...

So needless to say, I realized at that point also why people don't want to become involved and I promised myself that I would never do it again (well, at least with that particular neighbor) ... If I were you, I'd just stay away from your psycho neighbor & your other unappreciative neighbor who wasn't "taking sides" ... he should have thanked you for notifying him what had happened when he wasn't home ...

Exactly what I was thinking! Thanks for the comments about my collies, sadly, my older darling passed away this past March, she was 15.:sad1: My Tess will be 6 yrs old and she is a sweet soul, I would be devastated if someone hurt her!

I was so upset, I couldn't sleep last night and was actually in tears, mainly because I thought I was doing the right thing and here instead I was being "punished" for trying to help. I do agree that I need to avoid both neighbors, it just isn't worth the trouble.:sad2:

I'd be more frightened by the psycho dogs living in my neighborhood:eek:What if they get "worked up into a frenzy" again and shoot past their owners out the front door???
Be very careful, please. A human you can handle; a dog is uncontrollable:sad2:

Psycho neighbor was probably at her wits end with the dogs. Was she trying to sleep, or relax, and couldn't due to the dogs? We have dogs like that down the street. Would bark at all hours of the night. Would even wake me up from a sound sleep in the middle of the night. Had to sleep with my A/C on even if I didn't need it. Tried to talk to neighbors to no avail. Went to the town and they kept getting fined. There is a town ordinance that dogs can't be heard past x # of feet and for no more than 10 minutes. Anyway, I am beyond that so when I heard them bark for 10 minutes I would call each and every time. I tried resolving the situation amicably but neighbor said it was their dogs in their yard. I said it was affecting my quality of life. Anyway, they were the ones breaking the law. Ended up with fines in excess of $1,000 and, magically, the dogs can no longer be heard barking for hours on end.

I do not get involved in neighbors issues either. Unless it's an abuse issue. Then, I just couldn't live with my self if I saw something and never said anything. Luckily, it has never come up. I never discipline other people's children unless they are in my yard. Not my business. It is sad that people who are trying to help are the ones getting yelled at. If those children got hit by a car you would be yelled at for not saying anything. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

This happened around 11:30 in the afternoon. The dogs were only barking because the Schwans truck was parked in front of the house. For some reason, none of the neighborhood dogs, mine included, like this truck:dog2:

The reason they were "worked up into a frenzy" was because psycho was agitating them. She knows they are pit bulls and could be dangerous, I mean really, who does that, especially with their 3 yr old daughter standing next to her?

My guess is the dogs woke up her child and she'd had it. I wouldn't have sprayed them with water, but I certainly would have called animal control if it was an on-going thing.

I have to comment as the dogs in my neighborhood(mine included) bark at the Schwans truck!

I'm sorry you had to get in the middle of a neighborhood dispute. What as awful place to be in. The man with the dogs should've backed you up as obviously you were telling the truth, psycho admitted squirting them!
My guess is she's complained/done this before and he didn't want to get into it with her again.

Obviously she is a nut. If you dont like the way a dog is behaving, you do not trespass and spray water on them or yell at them, unless you are a complete buffoon. Since when does agitating the dog make him go to sleep? Idiot. Sounds to me like they should lets the dogs out next time she comes by, we will call it natural selection.

I am more of a cat person, but I dont get the whole kicking up a fuss over dog barking. Dogs bark, people complain, such is life. I'd much rather have a barking dog next door over an annoying person. lol.

What could animal control have done since the dogs were inside the house and not outside in the yard? In our town, there isn't any type of ordinance for barking dogs in the home.

LOL, me too! Some of the neighborhood kids here are much louder and more annoying than a barking dog!

In our town there is an ordinance. If the dog barks for more than 10 minutes continuously and you can hear it beyond x # of feet (I don't remember the exact amount). It can actually be considered disturbing the peace. Just like if you neighbor has a wild party with blaring music in their house.

Wow, if the neighbor that you went to backed down and said that he wasn't taking sides cause he didn't know what happen, why did he confront her in the first place:confused3.

Barking dogs suck, we used to live by some neighbors who dogs barked all the time:eek:, I mean he would wake the baby up and it was after I had finally gotten her to sleep after being sleep deprived:sad: myself:mad:. We contacted animal control and they came out and ticketed them for a public nuisance:scratchin? It was really bad, they had left for the week and I guess the other neighbors were tired too, because when I went to put a note on their door that their dogs had been barking non stop, they had like 10 other notes saying the same thing and one person left them a note on a Zoloft note pad:scared1:, If that didn't get their attention, I am not sure what would have. I am almost certain that the same person who left that zoloft note, was the one who shot at their dogs with a BB gun:scared:

I agree with everyone else, don't say a word the next time, if you can and feel like it would protect you, I say get it on film and have it for your protection in case you are framed:eek:

Wow,maybe they worked at a pharmacy or doctora office, or are a sales rep.

As collie owners, we can probably both give thanks for that! :worship: That ear-piercing collie bark can go right thru your head and it's worse for people who aren't used to my beautiful rambunctious furball. Give me the normal big-dog-bark of a pit bull anyday in comparison...;)
