Hi there

question
I am going to new york before then
should I get them there or get them here :confused3
are there any different

any one got one
What are they like
what is it like to watch a movie on it

my 7 year old son wants one too

but i think he is to young
but there will be war if the other fellow gets one and he dosn#t

thanks for any help
most have a look around the web for more info
But sure this board is just as good

I have one for DD11 had it since it came out LOVE it I use it as well she has PIC. on it we have several movies for it and now don't lug our 7" dvd player on most trips.
As for the getting in NY the only thing is that there is a country code I think but not sure if that would efect you check Sony WEB it will have that info
And Last get them both one if you can afford to They are easy to use durable and they can play against each other rather then sharing.

It's also great for the MP3 's as well another less thing to carry and lose.

I love my PSP, although I mosty use it to play the classic namco games, so some would say thats a bit of a waste of the technology.
However I will say that the screen quality is superb, as is the sound. The movies on the official UMD's are extremely good quality, however it might entail you buying the same film twice if both your sons want to watch them, and even 3 times if you want the DVD as well.
My advice to you would be to instead invest in a large capacity memory card for each of them. That way you can use freely available software that converts (on your pc) your regular DVD's into a format that can be watched on the PSP straight from the memory stick. Watching films in this way also conserves battery life as the psp is not having to spin a laser for an hour and a half. A 1gb stick will cost you approximately £50 on Ebay. You can do other unscrupulous things with a 1gb stick that involve not paying for your games, but thats best not gone into on here to be honest.

thanks for all the info so far
i see that it is wireless
so can you surf the net

you can use wifi but can be expensive in public places! buy in the UK as you can only use the region 1 dvd's sold in the US and they are hard to come by in the UK but the games are region free.

Well I was wondering the same question. My Son's b/day was 14OCT & he asked everyone for money & scapped together £150 for a PSP - we said we'd top the amount for him to get one.....

Can I find a PSP anywhere???????? No I can't. Argos sent an email to him saying "we have more in stock" but when we went to order the bundle pack it let us go all through to the checkout (stating that the console WAS available) then AFTER our c/card details it disappeared from the screen & said it wasn't avaiable. I then spent 8½ mins on their line to request a refund especially as their delivery fee was £4.95 for 2 items they DO have in stock anywhere.

Sorry about that ... but I do get frustrated with these place don't you?!

Anyway, when I looked at the Walmart site their bundle was better & only worked out at £200 for loads of stuff, compared to the same for not a lot over here. We have a friend going to US next week & I just wanted to know whether it's worth asking him to get one. I note the comments about the films, but it'd be mainly used for games & we could buy some films when we next go to WDW in Feb I guess.

What does anyone think?

:confused3

Saw one at the weekend for the first time. Movie quality is superb and the game quality also fantastic - played Tiger Woods and watched some of Spiderman.

As far as compatability is concerned, waht I have gleaned is that with DVD's the movie's are regional, so a US machine will only play US movies. Albeit if you look on ebay there are some region free ones - not sure about accuracy though.

Games are not bound by region though so will play just fine.

I've looked at a few places availability, and there are some clear issues, but I think they are getting some in stock - obviously the modern day Tracey Island!

Look at Amazon.com if you're not bothered about region - $249 (plus delivery of course).

my son wants this as well but i can't get it anywhere  i have got a reservation with john lewis and i am 5th on their list to get one and the lady i spoke to said i have a great chance of getting it because when the next delivery arrives the least they will send in one go would be 6-11 of them so i am crossing my fingers and toes :)

It should be noted that the games are only "currently" multi-regional.

The machine has been designed with the capability to regionalise the games (as the films are), but that choice has been left to the software producer.

Currently all games are multi-regional, but that doesnt necessarily mean it will remain that way.....remember the XBOX was designed with the same philisophy, and there are only about a dozen or so multi-regional games on it in total - the software companied have, on the whole invoked regional protection.

Of course, if you decide to go down the more illicit route, the game/film region is irrelevant.

Thanks everyone for all your help

I would imagine an element of the shortage is people buying them up before they come shipped with a firmware greater than 2.0.

Sounds like you guys need some help so seeing as you are my DIS friends, if anyone would desperately like a brand new PSP before Christmas, then please PM me and I will explain my source,

Much love and pixiedust,
Claire xx

I got mine from Play.com. They came in stock one day and were sold out pretty much straight away. A lot of people may have preordered them. However, a couple of weeks later they were back in stock again. I would keep looking on that site or put an order in. Gameplay are saying delivery in a week which may be worth trying too. I think stocks are getting through just they are flying out of the shops.

It is definitely worth buying and also getting the two. I was tempted to buy one in the States but liked the thought of being able to buy UMD movies over here easily. Picture quality is stunning and it is such a handy size compared to portable DVD players.

I have been assured that consoles bought in the US will not play our UK software so beware of the cheaper US prices, it will not benefit you here :sad1: .

What's a PSP? It sounds like a mini DVD or something. What do the initials stand for anyway? Sorry to be dense but I'm 59 and, I guess, out of the loop, so I don't know anything about this wonder toy or whatever it really is.
