Pseudophedrine purchasing laws..... which states?

I am just wondering if Meth Labs have come to a screeching halt since the ID requiremenst have been in place? Anyone?

I didn't think so.

Of course not - because it takes such a obscene quantity to make meth that it really doesn't matter. Once again, stupid law, ridiculous consequence.

Hmmm.... no results? All I know is that there were two major meth lab busts in our rural area soon after the law went into effect. I can say for certain that it did help here. Is it the answer to the national problem? No. But I guess you have to start somewhere.

Not like it's an easy task to shut these creeps down!

I have to swipe my driver's license at Rite Aid for the purchase of Sudafed.

A few weeks ago, the pharmacy did not bill my prescriptions to my insurance
company correctly so when they redid the bill and tried to redo the Sudafed purchase, it would not let me buy it because it would be over my limit for the month. The asst manager could not override the system. Luckily a customer swiped their driver's license so I could get the sudafed. My wife and I alternate purchasing the sudafed each week and it was my turn to purchase.

I think the system stinks because I have two members in my family who have severe year round allergies. They already use zrytec and they need this as a booster. The zyrtecD makes them sick so the doctor suggested this way to do it and it works for them.

There's a law in CT. The OTC stuff doesn't have pseudophedrine in it anymore...

We have laws here in Indiana, you have to show ID and its recorded in a computer what you purchased and when. I understand why they have to do this, but its a pain when buying childrens medicine for colds etc.

I had to deal with this in Texas last week. I was feeling miserable so I had to fight acting grumpy when I had to show ID, swipe it, sign and whatever else. Silly law IMO.

Are you sure you need a prescription or do you just need to get them in the pharmacy? I can't believe dr's would want to be writing out prescriptions for plain old cold medicine.

I bought some yesterday in NYC and they have it behind the counter so you need to ask the pharmacist for it and show ID, but no prescription is necessary.

Here in Georgia you can only buy so much mg -- have not had to show ID yet, and yes it is a federal law, went into effect April of 2006.

Here is my most recent experience: I went to PUBLIX to buy sudafed, 1 box of tablets for DH and 1 bottle children's liquid for Christian(it's the only cold med he is allowed to take, due to seizures.) I laughed & joked with the guy at the counter, allowing as to how they'd need a pint of blood and my firstborn son. I don't have a Drivers License so I whipped out my PASSPORT. Uh-oh :sad2: Here comes the lady pharmacist. "We can't accept your passport, must have Driver's license." What? This is a federally-issued document! See, here's the official government seal and my address & picture. "Sorry" she says, "FEDERAL REGULATIONS say I have to have your drivers' license." I tell her I think she is mistaken. I have bought pseudophedrine locally and in other states using only my passport. No deal. I ask her,"Are you telling me that only people who have a Georgia license can buy sudafed? That people who don't have a license are just out of luck?" She repeats, she has to have my drivers license and ONLY my drivers license will do. :furious: I told her, "You are wrong and I'm taking my business elsewhere." I've never been so mad in my life.

DH picked up the sudafed on his way home from work. At KROGER. :joker:

Does your state issue a state ID card? They look like a driver's license and should work in these types of situations? I would look into that because if you are carrying around your passport it has your SS# on that and if you lose it someone has your ss#.

In WV it is becoming nearly impossible to even find products containing psuedoephidrine...and it seriously ticks me off! I've got pretty major allergies - particularly to dust and cats - and about the only thing OTC I've ever found that actually works is Sudafed. Now, neither of the local pharmacies carry it, and only one of the local supermarkets.

But...as usual...our idiotic government (pick a party...when it comes to the "War on Drugs", they're all idiots) has found the way to cause more damage than they alleviate. The "War on Drugs" is a waste of time and money, and is a war that will NEVER be won.

In Michigan, I have to request it at the pharmacy, but I don't need to show ID.

In Tennesses last summer, my husband had to get it from the pharmacy and also show photo ID.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: That is funny, she was just being a PITA --- I know here in GA there is a mg limit, and if you LOOK underage you can refuse.

I just bought some cold medicine for my DS and wasn't asked for ID. But a couple of months ago, I bought 2 bottles at the same store and I had to give ID, fill out my name, address, phone number. So maybe if you buy 1, you're ok, but over that, you need ID.

I would gladly ask at the counter to get my hand on some good medicine with pseudoephridine for my DS, but I don't know there is any available any longer.

What medicines/brands are you guys even finding available behind the counter????

In MA at Target, I had to hand over my Driver's License and they wrote down a lot of the information and scanned into their system. They also gave me issues at first b/c I had a Florida License. It took showing them my college id also to show why I'm in MA.

Well, I was just wondering why the Sudafed I've bought in FL is phenylephrine, when the Sudafed here in the UK is pseudoephedrine. Looks like you've answered my question. For some reason we don't have a whole lot of people making it into some nasty drugs. The bigger problem I would be concerned about is heroin and of course cocaine.

So in essence, come over to the UK (I'm in Scotland) - you can buy it without a problem and without the dodgy looks and criminal attitude you all seem to be reporting over in the States. Am thinking there are a hell of a lot of other problems in the States that would be more important to address.

Do other states limit how many med's with pseudoephedrine you can buy? I know we can only buy 2 or 3 packages at one time. We also get carded for buying spray paint and other aerosol products except hair spray.

I had to make separate individual purchases in Virginia--but I had been buying multiple things. They let me do it. It just couldn't be on the same receipt. :confused3

I could be wrong--but it was some type of illegal usage that was the reason behind what they made a change in the purchasing method.

Not sure if the med itself was used as a drug or that the active ingredient was utilized in illegal drug manufacturing.

I'd be curious if they saw a decrease in whatever the problem was .

They boiled (?) the pills to get the ephedrine out of the medication. Of course, the amount given by one pill is near negligible. Instead, packages of them have to be boiled to create enough to be made into meth.
