Pseudophedrine purchasing laws..... which states?

There's rules here in CA. It's all behind the counter now. I usually buy at my HMO's pharmacy. I have to show the HMO card to get the discount price. Usually I give them my son's card. I've never been asked for any other ID. I've thought that it's strange that with the rules, they need ID, but the ID I give them is for an 11yr old.?

In Oregon it was behind the counter, had to show ID, put you in a computer, etc.

Now it is law- you HAVE to have a prescription for Sudafed. What a pain in the butt. I do have one though- it works so well for my allergies!

I think Oregon was the #1 state for meth labs, which is why the uber tough crack down.

I wont buy it anymore b/c I have to show my ID. I just get the OTC kind that is still out on the racks and either take more or suffer.

I am usually not bothered so much by "big brother" type of stuff, but this really gets to me!!!!

Well, I was just wondering why the Sudafed I've bought in FL is phenylephrine, when the Sudafed here in the UK is pseudoephedrine. Looks like you've answered my question. For some reason we don't have a whole lot of people making it into some nasty drugs. The bigger problem I would be concerned about is heroin and of course cocaine.

So in essence, come over to the UK (I'm in Scotland) - you can buy it without a problem and without the dodgy looks and criminal attitude you all seem to be reporting over in the States. Am thinking there are a hell of a lot of other problems in the States that would be more important to address.

The Sudaphed brand (and generics) comes in both varieties. The "Sudafed PE" (phenylephrine) is still on the counter. The "Sudafed" (original with pseudoephedrine) is behind the pharmacy counter.

I really think that phenylephrine doesn't work nearly as well as the pseudoephrine does and it seems to have more side effects. Unfortunately, almost all of the combinatin cough and cold products have been reformulated to contain phenylephrine instead of pseudoephedrine. It seems like people have to suffer and not get the most effective medication to try to fight this war on drugs, when like someone mentioned earlier, the pseudoephredrine is now being obtained in large quantites from Mexico.

Working in a pharmacy, I feel bad about all the hoops people have to jump through just to get a decent cold medication. We get so many complaints, and I completely sympathize with customers, b/c the entire situarion is a big waste of everyone's time and energy.

As for the pharmacist mentioned earlier who wouldn't accept a passport as ID...how ridiculous!

I would gladly ask at the counter to get my hand on some good medicine with pseudoephridine for my DS, but I don't know there is any available any longer.

What medicines/brands are you guys even finding available behind the counter????

You can still buy Sudafed brand for children. sometimes they have to order it.
