According to an editor's note by Al Lutz, protests are planned for Noon on both Saturday and Sunday:

EDITOR’S NOTE 7/28: Weekend demonstrations are planned near Disneyland, as the protesters attempt to drag the resort in to the current Anaheim police issues. The protest is planned for Noon on both Sat and Sun at the Harbor and Disney Way intersection, and the company has now closed all nearby Cast Member and guest parking areas this weekend in response. The Mickey & Friends structure and Toy Story lots will operate as normal, and Toy Story buses and CM shuttles will avoid traveling up Harbor Blvd. - Al Lutz

For those of you at DLR, be careful and take care.

Wow. Thats pretty interesting. I haven't been following the news as much as I probably should have with this. Has the violence erupted from protests or are the protests in response to the violence?

Wow, everyone that is down there take care and be safe. Especially those that are walking.

Anyone there now have updates to this? We arrive on Monday! Eek!

Interesting. I am checking into the DLH tomorrow. I doubt I will see anything, but it is still good information to have. I guess yesterday's protests in downtown Anaheim didn't amount to much.

The protests are stemming from police shootings, namely an unarmed person who ran from a car after police attempted to detain for possible suspicious activity.

And that's exactly why protesters are looking to involve Disneyland guests, to get as many eyes and ears tuned to their cause that otherwise may not be paying attention.

Hmm. Interesting. Everyone has the right to protest, I just hope that it doesn't ruin anyones trip. :scared1:

It's sort of a chicken/egg question. They feed each other.

Also, for anyone who wants a very reputable news source, here's an article regarding the planned protests from the Orange County Register, the major local paper.

I doubt anything will happen at the resort itself, but it is hard to explain a protest to kids, not to mention taking away some of the Disneyland magic.

For those that are unaware, there have been three recent incidents with the Anaheim police. As far as I am aware, in all three cases they approached known gang member who were acting suspiciously and upon approaching them they shot at the police or ran and threw stuff at the police and could have easily been reaching for a weapon that could have harmed or killed the police or other bystanders. In all three incidents, the police shot the suspects and killed them.

The Anaheim police chief immediately asked for an outside review and placed all of the officers involved on paid leave pending the the investigation in all three cases to ensure that there is not a racially motivated problem within the police department because all three were hispanic. Demographics show that this is most likely to be the case due to the areas of Anaheim that this occurred in.

There have also been city council meetings about the incidents and they have all said that they will need to wait for the reports to determine the best course of action, which makes sense.

The people protesting are saying that this is not enough, but wil not say what they want them to do. In addition, they are finding that a good portion of those protesting are not from Anaheim or even surrounding communities, but are being bussed in, but no one is sure why or who is doing so.

I just saw someone posted a link to an article, but one of the suspects that was killed was armed and shooting at the police, two turned out to be unarmed, but there was no way for the police to know that and they have to assume the worst to protect the public.

I hope the City of Anaheim insures safe passage for visitors thru the throng of people that are sure to be at this little planned welcoming party :(

As a visitor who wishes to have a pleasant vacation, I do not wish to see a protective father incited to lose his temper because he feels his family is being threatened. These bussed in protestors have a reputation around the country of creating a hostile environment in order to redirect attention from the facts. they want more chaos, mayhem, and violence. I do not wish to see innocent vacationers pulled into their politics and I sincerely hope Anaheim and Disney have plans for protecting their guests.

In all honesty, as someone who live in So. Cal. I have been to many, many cities around here and Anaheim has always felt the safest and seemed to have the best police officers around. So I am still baffled by the protests, but since I don't live or work in Anaheim, I don't know if there are things going on that I don't see. That being said, they will of course make sure that everyone going to Disneyland is safe, as you can imagine what would happen to tax revenue, etc. if Disneyland's revenue is hurt. I know that sounds like all they are interested in is money, but that's not it at all, it's just that if they loose the money, then they don't have the money to protect the rest of the city either, so if there a limited resources, they will deploy them to where they will do the most good.

Everyone needs to just chill out about these protests, chances are you'll be just fine going to DL/DCA. No need to get all panicked over nothing, yes they are disgruntled about what has happened, but chances of them going over the top again will probably be slim. Just don't go in that area, and if you happen to somehow end up in that area walk through them or walk to wherever your destination is with a purpose (do not look frightened, look like you know exactly what you are doing where you are going.) They probably just want to get some attention, ignore them.

You'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

How are the protests going?

As of right now they are protesting on the corner of Harbor Blvd right by the entrance. There news crews as well and a lot of cops. So far everything is relatively calm but I don't know how it will be tonight.

We were walking back from Goofy's Kitchen to CCI about 8:30 this morning. In the bus loading area we saw 4 police cars and bunch of police, DLR security, and some Suits all meeting in a circle. When we got back to room we heard they had planned a protest for that day at DLR.

We have been at DLR all week watching this unfold. I've just been waiting for someone to come up with the bright idea to protest at DLR. :sad2: I believe they are doing this because they want hurt the city and DLR has got to be the biggest income producer the city has from all the taxes and fees.

We left today as planned and we were glad to go when we did. I'm sorry, but I think people people do need to pay attention and not just pretend everything will be fine. The last protest ended in vandalism to shops and I pray it does not get out of hand tonight. I believe there are a few bad people who are looking to provoke the police.

Here now. We are staying at BWPPI. It's right across from the protests. It's a small crowd but there's really no media coverage because theres nowhere for the media to camp-out and it looks as though it's died down a bit. The hotel has put extra security at the entrances of the property and the police presence is very evident with multiple horses and cruisers on disneyland property.
We will be moving to DLH tomorrow. I cant say that I'm not nervous.
I'll post if there's anymore news.

My DH just checked out at Harbour because we are at the hotel napping. It's all clear for now. They seemed peaceful, but we are glad they are done.
