"Protein Spills"

Two years in a row I walked in on someone getting very sick in the restroom at Cinderellas Royal Table. :confused3 Maybe since the reservations are so hard to come by, people feel obligated to go ahead at eat there even if they are feeling ill?

If you were sitting near us in the Liberty Tree Tavern and noticed the waiter trying to force feed my newphew (7 yo) some food from his plate (in a very playful way) then shortly thereafter you would have seen said nephew toss is cookies all over the table and floor. Not a pretty sight, I might add. You would then see us sit there for about 15 minutes while they tried to figure out what to do. I wouldn't have thought that this was such an uncommon occurance, but apparently it was because the restaurant staff were completely dumbfounded. Eventually, they were able to get him a clean shirt and I imagine that they got right to cleaning it up after we left. But, they didn't clean it up in all the time we were sitting there. Ick.

Editing to add: As I read more of the posts on this thread I was reminded of the same nephew a few years ago who lost it in the pool of the ASMusic. He has a weak stomach. If you see us, I'd stay away. :rotfl2:

DS and I had the unfortunate experience of being thrown up ON while watching the preshow to Cranium Command two years ago during our Christmas trip.

DS was originally sitting on the floor and I was standing holding both our coats. I had a funny feeling that he needed to stand up and as soon as I asked him and he did, the woman in front of us turned around and threw up all over the coats I was holding and our sweatshirts. Talk about gross. I immediately swooshed DS to the bathrooms to get sweatshirts off (thank goodness it was a very cold morning and we had all those layers on) and see what damage had been done. The amazing part was that because I was holding our coats, all the vomit somehow stayed on them and our sweatshirts--not a bit on our pants.

While I scrubbed us down DH went to get a CM (they closed the attraction in the meantime so they could clean everything up). Once we were out of the bathhoom she took our coats and sweatshirts and ushered us over to MouseGear to get any coat or sweatshirt we wanted. Trying to shop as quickly as possible so she could get back to her job, I choose a really warm sweatshirt for myself and a cute pull-over/zip-up sweathshirt for DS. The bill would have been about $80, but it was comped for us (DS will be wearing his again this Christmas trip--it still fits two years later). Our coats and sweatshirts were cleaned and returned directly to our room, with my coat even being dry cleaned since the label said it needed to be--even though I had washed it many times previously and since.

So, a really gross situation turned out alright, albeit almost an hour later. We were just happy that nothing got on our pants or shoes and we didn't have to leave--that would have killed a major part of the day, especially with the crowds as bad as they are Christmas week.

We still have no idea what happened to that poor woman--I never saw her in the bathroom. She probably ran out as fast as possible from the embarassment.

I've been a florida resident passholder since 2004, have gone too many times to count and I've never actually seen anyone throw up at any of the parks.

I've seen the remnants of it on the floor/ground plenty of times, but never seen it happen.

This September, we were headed to AK on one of the Disney buses, when a young guy about 25 or so had the bus driver stop suddenly. He tried to make it off of the bus but puked all over the steps and door. I felt bad for the guy, but it was still hot there and the smell was intense!

Probably just determined to get their money's worth so they were purging and going back for seconds.

Never. I am a phobic about it too. If I see somebody get sick, I will get sick.

Good luck with not seeing it. ;)

I've seen it in every park. I'm a phobic too, but you know what? Once it's done, it's done and there's nothing you can do about it. Short of staying home, there isn't any way to avoid the POSSIBILITY.

Don't let the recent threads worry you. Go, have fun, and remember, if someone does get sick it isn't your problem to deal with. Chances are EXCELLENT you won't ever have to worry about seeing it. I've been hundreds of times and only seen it happen rarely. The same thing could happen at your grocery store, your kid's school, church....it happens. Awful, but there you have it!

Go have fun. It's not likely to be an issue.

My first trip to MK in 1973(?) I puked all over the ground in front of the Country Bear Jamboree. I was 6 or 7 years old. My parents took me to first aid and left me there (!) in a nice airconditioned room to take a nap on a cot while they went on some rides.

I still give my parents trouble for abandoning me and enjoying the park! I still remember how nice the air conditioning felt!!

Barf happens.

Been to WDW 3 times and DL once and all trips have been barf-free. Glad to say the plane rides to those trips were also barf-free.

I know what you mean though. I can't stand it either- don't want to hear it, see it or smell it. I can't stand myself doing it either. It's enough to set off a full blown panic attack.

7 trips to the world and 2 included vomiting by people I didn't know. The first was when Mission Space wasn't officially open and they were doing test runs and it was REALLY fast (it was awesome), I saw lots of people vomiting after getting off that (not me! :thumbsup2 ). And then last time I was in line with my DD waiting for the Stitch ride and a girl in line next to me puked. I didn't see it, I just heard splat and felt it splatter on my shoe and leg! :crazy2: I went to the bathroom immediately after and washed my leg and shoe. I'm sure I looked crazy with my leg hiked up to the sink, but I had to wash it with lots of soap!

The only time I've seen it happen was with my own DD. Right after we parked at the MK parking area, she threw up on the ground, thankfully right after she got out of the car! We managed to track down a CM to let him know what happened because there was no way I could just drive off with that mess on the ground! That was a nervewracking hour-long drive home. :rotfl:

It's too bad they don't have the sky buckets in Mk anymore, you could target puke from one of those.

My DD8 (then 6'ish) threw-up outside of the Ice Station Cool..... she tried Beverly. We looked for a trash can or something but a secluded? corner outside was the best we could do. Found a CM and reported it. Felt really guilty.

She has a very weak stomach/gag reflex and can almost vomit on comand. It's sad really.

That's my one and only.

Once at the gift shop at Animal Kingdom Lodge...i was there with the family i babysit for and the little boy got sick...after that, we took him to the room and stayed there for the day and he was better the next..

The only puke incidents I've seen in WDW were my own. I had a very weak stomach when I was little and would puke with even the smallest amount of excitement. That being said, I was a pro-puker and almost always made it to a bathroom, and if not, then to a very out of the way place.

Now the flights to and from Disney on the other hand :faint:

I don't know anyone who *likes* seeing people puke. :confused3 It's just something that happens sometimes.

I agree to nobody likes to see it, but emetophobia can get pretty intense. I'm better now, but there was a time when I would start to shake and hyperventilate if someone around me said they weren't feeling good.

I've only ever seen two instances of protein spills while at WDW. Once during my last trip, a little girl around 3 was vomiting while standing in queue at the entrance to Disney-MGM Studios. I was nauseous the rest of the day. The other was a little girl (probably 5) who had overheated while standing in the queue of the Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour. I was working there at the time and the mother came to tell me. Luckily, I had missed the actual event and just had to call Showkeeping (Disneyese for janitors) to clean it up.

I'm usually pretty wary of any ride that might cause motion sickness. I'm lucky enough to never have experienced it myself (my first time on Mission: Space I said, "That was it?" while my cousin tried to keep his lunch down) and I love thrill rides. If you're really worried about it, you might want to experience the rides with someone else who knows that you have that fear. That way, if there's vomit to be dealt with, they can help keep you calm or guide you if you need to close your eyes.

It sounds like a lot, but some people suffer from emetophobia so bad that they stop eating; no food in your stomach means nothing to vomit.

In all my trips to WDW (16 now) over the course of 24 years, I have not seen anyone I didn't know get sick. I have only seen one "protein spill" on the ground (walking back to the Swan from Epcot).

In December last year, I did see a girl I knew burp right before she got sick outside. We knew her stomach wasn't well, though, so I wasn't shocked. It was rather funny, the moment she first burped, we all took a lunge back  She was outside with a towel for the little that she was burping up so no one would see it (if that makes sense).

In short, I don't think it really is a common occurance at all!
