"Protein Spills"

I saw a 14-year-old (guessing) boy puke right before he got on the car at Space Mountain in September. They switched us down the line and poured the stuff on it. Needless to say, the kid did not get on the ride. I felt so sorry for him--that would really be embarassing at that age. Not to mention it would suck being that sick. I felt sorry for me, too, for being a witness. ;)

The only sickness I've seen at WDW has been my own or my family's , thank goodness since I do NOT handle it at all. Seriously, if DH is sick, I leave the house and he will come outside and tell me when he's done because if I have to hear it I will be right there with him. Granted I have GERD and a hiatal hernia so vomiting is a fairly common occurence for me personally but I can't stand to see/hear/smell someone else doing it.

I got sick on my honeymoon on the way back from the Luau at the Polynesian. I know this should go without saying but DO NOT DRINK THE CHEAP WINE THAT IS INCLUDED WITH THE LUAU!!!!!!!! :sad2: I drank two glasses with my dinner, and I didn't really eat that much so the combination of not a lot of food and cheap wine and the FL heat in September had me VERY sick. I started not feeling good waiting for the bus from the Polynesian to DTD. Got almost all the way to DTD on the bus and I dumped my purse in DH's lap and threw up in it. The purse, not his lap. The funny thing is, aside from DH, no one noticed. I have no muscles in or around my esophagus so I am a quiet vomiter. Good thing I guess. We got off the bus at DTD and DH threw away the purse. I laid down on the bus stop bench for AKL. Very classy in a dress but I really felt bad. Threw up at DTD a few more times and then there was nothing left for the ride back to AKL, THANK GOODNESS. Heck of a honeymoon story LOL. Lesson learned and we will NEVER drink the cheap wine again!!

Our last trip this past August there was quite a bit of sickness but fortunately it was mostly in our hotel room. Both DD's got sick during the night and housekeeping was really awesome about quickly bringing new sheets and towels and blankets. They offered to call someone if we wanted but DD's luckily were not that sick. Little DD2 got sick at Donald's Breakfastosaurus. That was special. I am so glad that we were pretty much the only ones in our section and in addition to the DDP tip of 18% I left an extra $20 since no one deserves to have to deal with that but they shooed me away from helping to clean up. The manager also came and brought me some food to go since I didn't get to eat at all and I had meds I needed to take with food. How great is Disney? Oh, and Guest Services at AK gave us a voucher to come back another day since we were only in the park about 30 minutes before we left. DIdn't get to use it this trip, hopefully it is still good next time around. DD's luckily got the mild end of that stomach bug and I was the one who got it next and really bad too. No public exploits other than almost fainting and then crying at Epcot before DH made the executive decision that I needed to go back to the room. I have to say though, that the CM's are so wonderful to deal with. I ended up with Reedy Creek Ambulance at my room that night and DH says they were fantastic ( I was too out of it to know) and some guy in a suit from Pop Century. So I guess if you have to get sick on vacation, as much as it really stinks to be missing out on everything at WDW, they treat you so well.

I agree to nobody likes to see it, but emetophobia can get pretty intense. I'm better now, but there was a time when I would start to shake and hyperventilate if someone around me said they weren't feeling good.
Yup, unfortunately that's me. I have a small panic attack if somebody complains that they're not feeling well, even if they don't even feel like throwing up. I have no idea why I react that way. Some people are scared of snakes, some hate needles, but I'm just severely phobic when it comes to vomiting. I've been like this my whole life. I used to share a room with my sister when we were kids, and if she mentioned she had an upset stomch I'd sleep on the couch JUST IN CASE she had to vomit later. My dad is the exact same way - can't handle vomit - so I guess that's where I get it from. :rotfl:

There was an old Saturday Night Live skit depicting Roman purging by the bucket loads (looked like thousand island dressing). As gross as it was, it was so hysterical, but I digress, you probably wouldn't have found it that funny.

:rotfl: :lmao:

YES ... I am also extremely vomit-phobic! When I see it happen it makes me tremble and freak out and continually replay the event in my head. When anyone in my household gets sick, my heart starts racing and usually I have to leave the house for fear of hearing/seeing/smelling it. Before GF and I went to disney, I continually asked her, what if I see someone puke? I was pretty nervous about that, what with some of the stories on the disboards about people puking on each other, at buffets, in line, etc.

Thankfully, I did not see anyone puke!!! I did see an *enormous* puddle of it at the pop century food court in the middle of a walkway. There were vomit-y footprints all around the puddle -- gross! I handled it fine, though!

I've been a bunch of times too and have only seen a couple of incidents. I saw one guy by a tree right at the exit of RnRC and my niece said he must have done it in the car too because they stopped the ride while they hosed the car out.

I saw a little girl on Main street once, her mother was dragging her down the street and she was spilling the whole way. I'm not sure Mama even realized it was happening.

My parents are the opposite of vomit-phobic. If they see it, or hear about someone doing it they HAVE to talk about it forever! "Did you see that guy throw up? What do you suppose happened? Do you think anyone else on that ride threw up too? Did you see the little girl over there? No, on your left. LOOK NOW, she's doing it right now!" And God forbid either of them has a stomach bug. My mother is still talking about a stomach flu she had when I was in grammar school! She'll tell you the whole ugly story if you let her get started. EWWWW! I don't know what psychological issue that is, but they've certainly got it.

Dr. Phil once had a woman on the show who was phobic of vomiting so much to the point that she didn't ever want to board a plane for fear of herself or someone getting airsick near her. Also, if her DH or DD has a stomach bug, she had to leave the home until the bug passed because she did not want to deal with barf. BUT- what I found very bizarre about the whole thing is that she has been pregnant and dealt with morning sickness and got through it! I don't understand how someone so phobic of vomit would want to be pregnant or have a child (since children puke plenty). :confused3 That, amongst many other reasons is part of why I never wanted a pregnancy/child. The irony is that I work in a hospital and deal with blood- which would freak a lot of people out but does not bother me in the least. Blood does not look or smell like barf!

Well thank God this woman didn't have my DS 5 for a child because he used to spit up/vomit constantly. He had a very hard time learning how to chew solid food and would gag constantly. He had a "protein spill" at WDW last summer. He was eating pasta at Alfredo's and gagged on it and threw up (in his napkin). Of course the table next to us saw and i'm sure they were grossed out but what can you do??

I used to have a phobia of sorts about throwing up, and I don't go out of my way to see it but it's a part of life and one I am very used to now after having kids.

This thread reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry breaks his 10 year record of not throwing up after eating a black/white cookie. LOL

I love that episode!

I wish I'd seen that Dr. Phil show! That sounds like me. DD has been sick a few times in her life (she's been in daycare since six weeks old, so she's picked up a few things). Spit-up never bothered me. It was different from vomit somehow. Even now when she gets sick, I'm too overwhelmed by feeling sorry for her and worrying about her to freak out over her throwing up. But I can't handle anybody else being sick around me, even DH. I have to sleep in another room with a fan on so I can't hear anything. And I do hold my breath when I fly because I would freak out if somebody had to use an airsick bag around me.

And the weird thing is that I had morning sickness until about 20 weeks when I was pregnant with DD. I would throw up 1-3 times every single day. And ME throwing up isn't awful - not pleasant but not the end of the world - I just can't take it when other people do it.

Don't feel bad for asking--I can relate as I cannot stand to hear, see, or smell it either. I have been to WDW 19 times, and I have only seen someone get sick one time. It was a little boy at a bus stop at Disney Studios--poor kid. I felt so sorry for him. To be honest with you though, you might encounter the remnants/evidence of a protein spill during your trip though. I have seen several piles of the vioban they use to clean up protein spills on my trips. As hard as it is to deal with when you're phobic about it, I just take several deep breaths, wash my hands so I feel clean, and move on. Disney is entirely too much fun to miss!

I've never witnessed it at WDW except from my kids. Complete and total fluke for a nasty bug they got.

It is possible---but nothing to worry yourself over.

I won't tell you where this took place so as not to freak you out.

I don't like seeing people toss their cookies either. I hate it on movies with the fake vomit as well. Just looks too real.
