Help--I am taking my Kindle on my trip at the end of the month. I am as addicted to my Kindle as others are to their phones, games, gadgets and gizmos.

I carry it in a ziplock baggie (it is already in a hard cover) in the event of unexpected rain here at home. How should I carry it so that it is ok on the rougher rides? I have a small backpack I will be using as my carryall to the parks (big enough for my kindle and a wallet). I thought about bubble wrap--don't laugh I am really considering it--or those padded brown envelopes. A friend told me not to worry because people take their cameras on rides and they don't break. And I don't want to take paperbacks with me.

Any ideas? Or words of reassurance?

I have had my ipad in a semi-hard, leather case in a small backpack on all the rides. No problems at all. I don't think you need to do anything else.

If you want to add an easy, cheap layer of softness and shock absorber, you could take a Disney bag (the kind you get if you buy food at the resort gift shop) and wrap it around it a couple of times. But I think it would be more than you need.

Happy trip!!:thumbsup2

Is your kindle not in a case? I'd buy a case for it, and then use the ziplock around it?

If its in a hardcover and in a ziplock bag not sure what else you need to do with it? Bubble wrap or a padded envelope arn't really going to add any protection.

But do you really need it in the parks? Is it worth risking dropping it and breaking it. There have been a lot of posts from people seeing others drop their ipads. One even into the water on Jungle cruise.

If we're talking about anything but the Fire, Kindles are pretty tough to begin with, so I wouldn't worry much about anything but water. A hard case and a Ziploc should be just fine. My iPad has survived all the "rough rides" at WDW in a similar setup in my backpack, and those are less sturdy than a Kindle. :lmao:

Not sure why you would wrap it in bubble wrap. Get a case for it, and a ziplock for extra protection on water rides or if it rains. If it's in a backpack, the rides will not break it. You might have to worry about if you step on it or something but the rides won't break it.

I have taken my 7" Kindle Fire into the parks. I have a cross-body purse that I carry my stuff in, and the Kindle fits in the central pocket. I have a case on the Kindle of course. I've never done anything more than that, and it's been fine.

I only take it out to read if we're taking a particularly long break somewhere (i.e. napping on the grass in Epcot). I've seen people dangling iPads and other gear out of rides, over fences, all kinds of silly stuff. Often without even having a case on the thing. Especially this last trip, I saw SO many of them everywhere.

I think as long as you have a case on it and you are carrying it in a good bag that won't fall off your shoulder, it should be fine.

I've been carrying my kindle in my sling bag to parks for years, it's in a leather case. I sit out the rough rides and read/relax for a few minutes. Never had a problem:thumbsup2

I wouldn't worry too much. I have a HTC Windows 8X phone. It's incredibly fragile, and I'm on my third one. It has made it through Disney just fine twice. My wife's Galaxy Tab 2 has made it through two trips, as well. She has also taken her photography gear, nothing has ever broken.

Not to say don't be careful, my stuff hasn't broken so yours won't. But I wouldn't worry too much about it. Grab some kind of case if you're worried. Put it in a bag and wrap a shirt around it or something.

I have carried cameras, both still and video plus cell phones and walkie-talkies on every single "rough" ride at Disney World. Never really protected them other to make sure they were in a bag (my still camera is in my normal canvas bag I use for everyday). Extent of loss? Zero.

But that's my experience. You can shrink wrap, bubble wrap, custom bind your Kindle but remember when you want the device, you will have to undo all of the protection and then put it all back on before you board the ride vehicles. Or, if you just want the device for the downtime in between attractions you will have time to do all that.

Thank you all. My current hard cover and ziplock bag sounds like it will do the trick. :thumbsup2
