Pros/Cons of SS

I like the turf club. We ate there last Friday I had the 10 oz steak and my wife had the penne pasta w/chicken. Very good and the price was average. Service was good as well.

We also loved SSR. The 12 extra years was a no brainer for me (DW is 26 and I'm 30), so we are very hopeful to be around when the contract expires. I really loved the main pool, a little small, but the new pool should help with the crowding a little. We also love the the furniture in the rooms, DTD, and balcony views from Congress Park. Truly a beautiful resort!!!

Pros:

1) longer term (12 years longer than if you bought an older DVC Resort)
2)DTD views and many water views from rooms
3)New Resort
4) great spa and gym on site
5) golf on site
6) walk to DTD

Cons: (only from my perspective, may not be cons for others)

1) Main pool too small for a resort this size. Limited seating around pool with no shade.
3) Theming. Saratoga what???? small town doesn't have universal appeal.
4) No direct theme park access, must drive or bus everywhere.
5) Large resort with long walks depending on the building
6) No room service.
7) Pool bar is tiny for a resort this size and offers only chips/ no food near pool like other DVC Resorts.
8) point structure. Why is it more than OKW, another stand alone DVC?

Hope this helps but what I like/dislike others may feel differently. SSR would be my last choice currently. It is a fine resort and is maturing nicely. Just not my style for a WDW/Orlando vacation.

We're in the process (hopefully) of purchasing SSR, so I'm looking forward to our first stay. Cas I ask you what you missed about SSR whie at BWV? Also, was BWV more convenient transportation-wise?

Probably corny, but SSR is our home resort, and was our first DVC vacation. I really like that laid back atmosphere of SSR. BWV was very convienent. You are able to walk to both Epcot and MGM, you have a ton of food options, the resort, Epcot, Swan & Dolphin area and Beach Club. I loved BWV and would stay there again.

My DD & DSIL live there, too for a number of years now (well, technically they now live in Ballston Spa, though they used to live right by the racetrack). It will be kind of neat to compare.

BWV is more convenient to Epcot and MGM but no different for AK or MK. What I don't like is that BWV shares a bus with Swan and Dolphin so the bus trip is much longer than if it was just BWV.

For me I prefer having a counter service option and now the now sit down at SSR (not forgetting DTD is a quick walk!) works better than what is at BW.

A month ago I would have been very interested in the responses to your post as I was going to SSR for the first time and had heard many negative remarks about it. Now, after having spent our last vacation there I would have to say that I  it! We stayed in the Springs section which was close to everything. We'd walk over a bridge to the Paddocks section and use the quiet pool there when we weren't at the main pool which was awesome with the zero entry feature. We didn't wait for buses and we did eat at Turf's Club which was delicious. For some reason this resort gets a bad rap. I've stayed at BWV and OKW besides this resort and I'd definitely go back to SSR. I'm telling you straight out...you won't be disappointed! :sunny:

I am an owner at OKW. Haven't stayed at SSR, but have visited it multiple times... we just haven't stayed there because of planning issues more than anything.

It looks like a lovely resort to me. The food court seemed fine, the new Turf Club menu looked good, and I didn't think the prices were out of the norm for WDW. The pool area looked nice.

My understanding is that when they build the newest section, they are goign to build another "main" type pool that will be in the theme of a racetrack, so that may take some of the heat off the current main pool as far as crowds. It is a big resort, so they would need a big pool area, or a couple of pool areas to offset the crowds soemwhat, much like OKW has the main pool & 3 quiet pools, the BCV has SAB(which is a HUGE pool complex) plus a quiet pool, BWV has a main pool and then several quiet pools, VWL has a main pool and a quiet pool. SSR is a work in progress...Disney generally doesn't screw up much and they seem to have this DVC building thing pretty much down to a science at this point. My guessis that the finished product will have appropriate facilities for all the guests.

I thnk some folks prefer the hotel style DVCs and some prefer the condo-style DVCs. There are pros and cons to each, each are lovely in their own way. Locaiotn can be key too...some people like being in the middle of it all, such as you would be in the Boardwalk area. Some folks like to be a bit more removed.

This is my favourite resort. Likes: the peacefulness, beautiful views from balcony - especially if you have a waterview room, the spa - if you love spa's this one is brilliant and saratoga is the only dvc resort with a spa, the turf club - nice bar to relax in or play pool, the swimming pools - main pool is great for kids, whilst quiet pools are nice for adults, walk to downtown disney, transportation - wasn't good first time we stayed but now mega efficient, layout of villas - all convenient for buses and parking lots and no major hikes down long corridors, decor of rooms.

Dislikes - sit down restaurant - quality of food and service needs to improve, no boat rentals available - don't know if these are coming in future.

We can't wait to go and see all the positvie things our resort has to offer!! :cool1: 24 more days
