I am renting DVC points for 6 nights in April from a DVC member. What are some of the pros and cons to renting these points as compared to staying at a moderate or deluxe resort?
:confused3

Pros: Fantasic lodging for minimal price

Cons: Difficult cancellation policy
Disney not involved if you have any issues, it's between you and the DVC member
You're still not a member (and you want to be)

Adiitional

cons
Another con would be lack of everyday mousekeeping.
No Dining plan option.

Pros
KITCHEN

I have not stayed in a Disney Resort since 1979. I stayed with my parents at Fort Wilderness. My last visit in 1993 was off site. 1998 ...I did Disneyland and stayed in the Park. It was awesome!

Other than mousekeeping and no dining plan...will I notice a significant difference from staying in a place like POR or WL? Any benefits I will go without?

It seems like staying in a Studio for less than $190 at OKW is a better value than POR for $165 or standard at AKL for $275.

Will I be privilege to 90 +10 for advance dining reservations since I am not a DVC member?

In an OKW Studio, you will have two queen sized beds.
In POR you'd only have two double beds. AKL or WL you'd have two queen beds.

At OKW, you'll have an undercounter refrigerator, microwave, toaster and kitchen style sink.
At POR, AKL or WL you would only have a cube sized refrigerator.

At OKW, you'll have a small balcony or patio with one chair and a small table.
At POR, no balcony. Maybe or maybe not at WL. AKL would have a little bit larger balcony.

At OKW, you'd have a large separate bathroom with the sink in the same room as the toilet and tub.
At POR, WL and AKL, the sink is outside the tub/toilet room.

There is still some discussion about the 90+10 for DVC reservations since they don't show up until a few days before. DVC reservations are separate from CRO reservations. You can try, but tell them you have a DVC reservation and give them your confirmation number. See what they say.

Just a note, I was able to call member services and make my dining reservations for 90+10 through them with no problem at all. I imagine if you were trying to get Cinderella's breakfast or if you are a renter this wouldn't be the route you'd take but I just thought I'd throw it out there. :)

Deb & Bill,
You forgot to add:
At OKW you have unlimited hot water,
At POR you have a tiny hot water heater under the sink.

At OKW, you have full air conditioning that can be adjusted thru the heating vents just like at home,
At POR, you have a puny window air conditioner with no adjustment, and if you are staying in the summer, it's not enough!! ;)

Not sure if your numbers include tax or not, but your rental would not have tax, the others would. Also while you don't have a washer/dryer in your room as with a bigger unit, you do have access to them in the resort.
