Pros and Cons of having 2 middle names?

I chose to take my maiden name as a second middle name and add dh's last name to the end of it all. It was 23 letters to start with, then add in DH's 6 letter last name, and my full legal name is a doozy! I usually sign first, 2 initials, last. My middle initials are J. R., so sometimes I get junk mail to Englishteacha Jr. I know that's trash!

My DD has 2 middle names - I hyphenated it so techinically she has 1 middle initial.

Her first name is 4 letters
Her middle is 18 letters
When she was born and we learned she was a she (we didn't know) I could not decide on a name. I/We had several we liked and I also knew she was it, I was done. So, after several days of not having a name, my MIL in exasperation says "give her all of them, let her decide what to use later, but for goodness sakes name that baby!" Done:rotfl2:

Both of my dd's have two middle names....never been a problem!

My DS has two middle names; they were all very important to us, so we couldn't not do it; plus, DH has two middle names, so it was a bit of a tradition for us. In our case, ds is named after DH's father, DH's uncle whom we loved dearly and also an Irish hero, DH's 2nd middle name, then our last name. I couldn't let any of those go, so... It's funny though, on his Irish Birth Certificate it has all his names, but on the American consular report of birth abroad they only put one, so his Irish documents (passport, etc.) have both and the American one's have one.

I have 2 middle names and when it comes to forms etc if I can't fit it all in then I will write the 1st one and then the initial of the 2nd. Never had any problems with it, and I think it's kinda nice to have an extra tag! :)

My goddaughter has 2 middle names. Her mom couldn't decide so she got both.

I have 1 legally, but according to the church I have 2 first names and 2 middle names. The church I was baptised in wouldn't accept Megan as a first name so they baptised me Mary Megan. I chose my grandmother's name for confirmation. So I have 5 names all together. First First Middle Middle Last. Not married yet, so I don't know what I'll do when that time comes.

My DD almost 10 has two middle names just shoved together. Her name is Katelynn Jeanmarie. Jean is after my favorite aunt and Marie is my mothers middle name. I couldn't decide which to use so I used both and made it one name. It works well with our last name because it is a short name (Wahl).:goodvibes

The only thing I would caution is that 4 names can get very complicated when it comes to identity. I work in HR compliance and our employee's have to fill in complete name on all new hire documents - we audit names against SS card and the employee's name on record must match exactly as reflected on SS card. Sometimes the middle name is part of the last name - make sure SS gets it correct because on a SS card it does not say which names are the middle. We have this problem particularly with Latino culture becaue they often use dad's and mother's last name as part of their name which is difficult to discern - Humberto Alfredo Gonzales Garcia...Is Garcia the last name or Gonzales Garcia? Something like Bethany Mary Anna Smith is easier to discern, though.

OK,
We're in the process of determining names for our baby (coming in May :) ). I know 1 name (part of my maiden name, very unique to our heritage) I want to use as a middle name. But DH is thinking of a different one. So to avoid the baby having no names for awhile, I was thinking of 2 middle names.

Anybody out there with good or bad experience?
I don't know how complicated it is to put 2 middle names in legal forms and such.

TIA! :thumbsup2

My DD (age 24) has 2 middle names -- occasionally there is only room for 1 initial on a form, so then she only uses her first middle name.

My DD has a Social Security card and a Passport and this has never been a problem

How about 2 last names? My DS and his GF will be parents any day now. They want the baby to have both their last names, no hyphen. So I guess on legal documents, he will be first name, middle initial, last name, last name.

My MIL wanted the baby to be named after FIL, who died when my DS was less than a year old. My son had told her when he was young, that if he ever had a son, he would have FIL's name for first or middle. Unfortunately, GF doesn't agree, so that's not happening. MIL said she thinks they should name the baby, John (after FIL) Jared (after DS), and call him JJ. She then told me that even though they are planning on naming him Xavier Garrett, she plans on calling him JJ!! HAHA Poor confused little kid, 2 last names and Grandma calling him JJ when there are NO Js in his name anywhere! HAHA

I have 2 first names is it is a pain, many times. People screw it up and even today the tax people got it wrong on our taxes.:rolleyes1

I refused to do it to my girls.:scared:

Isn't it typical in some cultures that the mother's maiden name becomes a middle-name of sorts? It's more common than I think people realize to have more than one middle name.

The only draw-back I could see is when you get one of those standardized tests that asks for your middle initial. Which name would you pick as the official middle name? ;)
