Proposing in Disney

Ok so this plan is not yet finalized but here's what I'm leaning towards: 1.) Propose in Magic Kingdom at the Rose Garden and have a Photo Pass Cast Member take photos. The proposal would be first thing in the morning to hopefully cut down on crowd size (and my own stress level). 2.) Have flowers or a Disney-themed engagement package delivered to that room while we are away so it is there in the room when we get back that night. If the Rose Garden is too busy, my Plan B is to propose that evening when we get back to Port Orleans right by the water and then have the Disney flowers or engagement package there at the room. I've only been to Disney World twice (only once recently) and need the advice of some more seasoned Disney World goers: 1.) Is Disney particularly crowded the first week or two of December? If we went to the Rose Garden first thing in the morning, would that be our best chance at having relative privacy from the crowds? 2.) My girlfriend also loves the photos her and her family took on the opposite side of the Rose Garden with the Castle in the background. Is that a relatively private area from the crowds and is there any chance of getting a Photo Cast Member there? 3.) Any other general advice for proposals around Magic Kingdom? I apologize if I'm coming across as a little nuts, but even though I love Disney, I'm not nearly as familiar with the parks as my girlfriend (and many of you are) and just want to plan ahead as best as I can. As always, thank you so much for your help!

1) while I love this idea in general, really think about how your gf will react to a crowd of people watching. Even in the AM, people may notice what's happening and gather. There will be applause and cheers. She may be totally cool with that. Personally, I would have been too overwhelmed by it. DH was going to propose at MVMCP in 2011 but when we were discussing general proposal ideas (while he was planning) I made it clear that I would want that to be a private moment between he and I - no restaurants, no public places. So he proposed at home two days before our Disney trip - which was perfect for me. So that's a long way of saying know your girlfriend and try to decide if being in public is going to be too much for her.

3) the castle area is always super crowded, and there's even the possibility that you could e proposing at the same time as someone else. I've seen at least one person on bended knee in the hub every time I'm in the MK. Don't get me wrong, it's super sweet, but not necessarily original or private.

Port orleans is a nice idea as well. You're more likely to have a quiet moment strolling along the river with her. You could try to arrange for someone who works there to help with picture taking. Many Disney CMs love helping with that stuff so id find time to break away from your gf and go talk to the concierge at the resort, bring them in on your plan and see if they can help you. They might even be able to arrange for a photo pass CM to just happen to be there. They are very good at helping make magic happen.

I'm more of a private person - so I probably would appreciate taking a carriage ride at Port Orleans and getting proposed to there. In my case, no pictures are necessary.

My Husband got me an in-room celebration package (2-day package). The first night I got roses the next night there were battery candles in the room and the Wishes non-alcoholic sparkling cider, 2 glasses, rose petals on the bed and a package with a wand and bracelet in it - it was amazing!! (However, I have no idea how I would have got the flowers home had we not had family who drove there with us).

It all depends on what your GF likes. Good luck!!

So far, I haven't been able to book a table at California Grill to have the nice view of Magic Kingdom as a backdrop. However, the Rose Garden is starting to take an edge over my other ideas since I can capture the moment (that was a great shot TigerandBear!) and my girlfriend LOVES Magic Kingdom. I'm still looking at some other options and am even going to call the Disney Weddings phone number tomorrow just to see what they may suggest.

When I was planning it, I knew in front of the castle was a strong choice. Purely because it looks so amazing. I was originally going to go for the hub as I knew there'd be cameras there for definite, but when I saw them at the garden I knew it would be perfect.

I suggest emailing/calling the wishmaker guys like you said, as they are amazingly helpful. I acutally had an INCREDIBLE cast member over at Floral & Gift that helped arrange stuff for me. It's just a case of finding a good one, and they'll be able to help sort lots out for you.

So yeah, my personal advice is to do it in the day, at a park. That way you can plan lots of other nice surprises (Meals/hotel stays etc) and can enjoy them throughout the day. I don't know how people can sit there and wait until the evening, I was so nervous and excited that I wanted to ask her as soon as we woke up! haha!

Also, getting engaged in Disney is amazing. Get the badges to show people that you're celebrating, and you'll be constantly be given 'congratulations' by literally everyone. It was a really perfect way to celebrate for us.

WEll I was just proposed to last week, and he did it at Port Orleans Riverside beside the water wheel. It was perfect. It was Dark out, lovely lighting, noone around...he tried repeatedly during the week to do it at the parks but found it impersonal and too busy. This was perfect. The next morning we went to Main St and told the photopass photogs that we got engaged the night before, and they were amazing with some engagenent style photos!!

My fiancé (that sounds so weird!) just proposed Saturday! He sent my friend and I into a shop and he went to town hall and talked to the CMs there and got us right in to see Mickey and after we took our pictures the 2 CMs in the room pulled our kids (he has a daughter and I do) aside and I turned around and he was standing there already teary and he proposed! It was perfect! We had photopass right there but the CMs made sure we were the last ones in that room so there wasn't a huge crowd. It was amazing!

Congratulations, you really need to figure what your girlfriend and yourself enjoy.
I proposed last December ironically. I can’t imagine proposing in MK but I know plenty do it. I asked her at Victoria & Alberts with a glass slipper and a special letter unveiled before the final course and had the wait staff take pictures. The entire 8 day trip was a surprise (extremely difficult, think I got my first grey hair). Do it at the place you feel she and you would enjoy the most and than go from their with the planning.

Man, I wish I had known about this site before my proposal (just 2 weeks ago)! So many great ideas and planning (I just signed up here last week to get some info on Disney wedding ideas )!!

I chose to propose to my fiancee in front of Gaston's in New Fantasyland after Celebrate the Magic and Wishes because (1) I was going to do it earlier BUT THE ANXIETY and (2) THE CROWDS. There were TONS of people around the castle queuing up for the Electrical Light Parade, and me being the introverted mess that I am could NOT handle the attention the proposal would get. Earlier that day I saw that there was a Disney photographer stationed outside of Gaston's by the Gaston/Lafou fountain. It was off the beaten path and at night the area casts a golden/rosy colored glow and you can still see Beast's castle in the distance for that fairytale touch. I told my boyfriend wanted a Lafou brew, so we walked back to Gaston's to get the Lafou brew and sat on the fountain edge hand in hand. I began talking about how much he meant to me and how I couldn't live without him and how much I loved him. I spotted the photographer, told my boyfriend to smile and raise our glasses to toast our love and our future together, the photographer saw us gesturing and set up to take a picture, after the toast, I reached into my pocket (THE MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGE WAS ALWAYS FIGURING OUT WHICH SIDE OF THE RIDES WE RODE THAT DAY TO LOAD ON SO HE WOULDN'T BE SEATED ON THE RING BOX SIDE AND FEEL IT IN MY POCKET OMIGOOOOOD), pulled out the ring box, got on one knee and already I heard pair of two girls begin to squeal "is this really happening!?" who were nearby us (there were about 5 - 10 people in the area at the time, remember, it was late after both Celebrate the Magic and Wishes were over). The photographer started clicking and flashing her camera away like crazy as I'm down on one knee and pop the big question.

Later that night we bought two "groom" Mickey hats, his embroidered with "He asked me..." and mine embroidered with "...he said yes"

It wasn't anything near as fancy or elaborate as what I've read here, I probably should have done more research (I read, like, maybe 4 or 5 proposal stories online but they were similar to mine - no elaborate Disney engagement packages or anything, just finding a Disney photographer in an iconic spot and diving on in and asking the question). I'm happy with how things went and wouldn't change that moment for the world.
