Proposed DVC next to Wedding Pavillion

Hey! Good thanks, how about you? Yeah I just keep feeling bad that we'll have made everyone fly 9 hours to Florida to see us get married next to a building site!!
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!

All good, got my phone planning session in a couple of weeks :) Just disappointed about this latest news but other than that great. Can't believe it is so close now!

Yeah I know. I've got my planning session booked for June. Still waiting for some people to book so wanted to get a better idea of numbers. I think by then it will feel a bit more real! I'm disappointed too. I was hoping that maybe construction wouldn't start till the end of the year or something, but looking at the plans and stuff it looks pretty imminent! We even changed our ceremony location because we like WP so much, so quite annoyed about that too! I just wish we could have some clear communication!

We're still waiting on a few people but I'm estimating 18-20 max. That must be so frustrating now that you've changed locations. I loved the WP when we saw it, it was so pretty and peaceful.

I'm sorry you guys are all going through this stress :grouphug: I'm having a Swan wedding so I don't know much about DFTW contracts.

I was wondering though-if worse came to worse & if you found out that the construction was going to be really disruptive or visually a nightmare during your wedding date-are you allowed to switch your ceremony site to another location, like at Epcot or something? I mean, if the alternate ceremony site was available? :confused3

I don't care what they call it expansion of the GF or a new addition DVC resort, whatever they have in mind and are planning build it else where PLEASE!!! Why are you taking away that beach area anyways!?!? Yeah the sand should be replaced more often but I do love the gap in between which allows guests to get to the GF Beach and walk it if they wanted to. I'm floored that Disney Wedding's isn't trying to get us in the loop as I haven't payed my deposit yet, but will be soon and many have not knowing this was going up, might cause a big hoopla with DFTW, and maybe this is why they are keeping it on the down low.

If it does go up I'm really hoping that it doesn't take the view away from the WP to the GF. I know it's a small thing but I love the openness of the view of the WP. It makes the place and really is breath taking. Ughh more waiting games... :headache:

It IS probably possible. But what is you do get your time, date again and you've got stuff done, printed out etc. I haven't printed out STD's or Invites but I'm sure some that this might effect have.

But who wants to switch the deco, ideas, outside phography, etc, etc, when most people by now have that booked and eventually maybe when DFTW spills the beans it will be too late to cancel, rebook those vendors, plans, and such.

I wonder if they might reduce the cost to use the Wedding Pavilion during the "construction phase"? It's one of the priciest venues, but I would imagine the negatives associated with being adjacent to a construction project might cause a serious damper in the number of brides interested in using it...

Exactly. This is such a pain. I went through a serious debate this morning about if I should just back out now and only forfeit my deposit. But I have been dreaming of this for so long that I don't want to give up on it. My fi calmed me down and reminded me of ALL the things we are excited about for the wedding. Then my mom called to cheer me up with funny stories from our past Disney trips. Now I'm trying to focus on the positive: I'm still in love with my best friend and my family is still ecstatic that we decided to get married in Disney. So I'm sticking it out and praying for the best.

Well, I wasn't up for any waiting around so I called today and switched our ceremony to Sea Breeze Point. It's beautiful and I'll still get castle views for our DP and our MK shoot. I just didn't want to wait around and then find that all the preferable alternatives were already booked.

The expansion sounds like a done deal to me and I am not paying that much money to get married next to a construction site no matter how much they try to camouflage it. I talked to my consultant this morning and he didn't have any specifics, but understood why I wanted to move and certainly didn't try to talk me out of it. I did ask about having the ceremony at the GF marina since the castle would be in the background, but there is just no existing decor and he felt like it was very "exposed" to the general public, and I don't want to get married at 9 am in Epcot....hopefully this will be the last curve ball.

I don't think it's really an "if" at this point... something is going in that spot or there wouldn't be legal documentation of it. The question is when is it going to arise and what exactly is it going to be?

Like Minniebride, this doesn't really affect my ceremony (although if they start mucking about with the Gf in the next six weeks or so, it may affect some of my planned photo locations!!), but I jusy wanted to send all you sweet brides a :grouphug: and say that my heart goes out to anybody whose wedding may be changed because of this!! It is really disappointing when your dream has to be compromised like this. I was even disappointed when I found out that the Fantasyland construction was going to be in full swing during our VR trip as we have first-timers in our party of guests!!
I guess all you can do is keep smiling and, as One Song says remember the positives. Lets all hope things won't be as bad as they seem at the moment!!
As a selfish DVC member, I must say it will be lovely to be able to stay at the GF on points!!! I am not so sure, however, that sacrificing the beautiful setting of the WP is the way to go!!

From a business point of view I can see why they are doing it but that area will be very crowded and not as nice as it is now unless Disney are very clever, let's hope they are.

Judging from the information we've been able to find, and that the project is '2011-1,' I would guess this is going to happen sooner than later. I would guess by summer we might be seeing construction happening.

It really sucks how much this is going to and is upsetting brides and photo sites around the WP and GF beach. I understand from a business point they will likely have no issue selling these, if it is truly DVC and not just an addition. I feel for all of the ladies this is and will affect.

The best we can say at this point is 'boo for construction and an obstructed view from certain areas,' 'boo for a loss in some of the WP seclusion,' 'yay for potentially more GF space,' 'yay it isn't taking most of the views from the WP,' and at least we can still take most of the traditional GF area photos.

Hopefully, it will go up fast.

I am ok with the construction going on because I can always take pictures that don't face it, but the main thing I am concerned about is noise and it getting in the way of the ceremony. As long as my ceremony doesnt get interupted, I think I am ok with it but I want some kind of guarantee from Disney that my wedding will be unimpacted. I just emailed my consulatant asking about this so hopefully I will find out something soon.

I don't know that you can get that guaranteed. I would check your contract. I just checked mine and there is a small paragraph that reads:

"You acknowledge that Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently undergoing exterior and/or interior renovations. You acknowledge that from time to time the hotels and theme parks at the Resort undergo exterior and interior renovations. Such renovation shall be at Disney's sole discretion."

I signed this back in July, so I don't know if they knew about it then, or what. But I'm sure this same thing is in most people's contracts if they are having their wedding at/close to the WP. Therefore, I'm not sure you could get anything guaranteed that your wedding will not be impacted. I know we couldn't since this has been signed for a long time now.

Thanks for the info, we haven't signed our LOA yet so I will definitly read all of the fine print.

I'm with GreenDisneyBride, the only thing I really need is confirmation that sound will not be heard inside the pavilion. I hope it doesn't come to this, but if it comes down to a legal confrontation, I'm fairly confident we will still be in the right. "Renovation" is not defined within the contract, so a general definition is meant to be taken-- and sadly I've already looked into this. I can't find a legitimate dictionary that defines "renovation" to ever mean the addition of entirely new elements. It only applies to the re-working of existing elements. Again, this is really nitpicky legal stuff, and I certainly hope it won't come to that. But Fi is an attorney, so we aren't going to be intimidated. I would hope that if they have a single ounce of decency or care at all about their brides, they won't perform loud construction during ceremony times. Or maybe the pavilion has some kind of sound-proofing in the walls that we don't know about (I have wondered if the monorail would be heard passing by every 5 minutes.)

I think if every single one of the brides and bride's mom's (mom's have an impact!) call up and demand some assurances.. that Disney will see that they have to keep the brides and their mom's happy!! Bride dad's can call too as in many instances, they're paying the bills. I am sure Disney will do what they can to keep people happy. I'm sure the construction crew can be told the wedding's hours and be quiet for that time. I don't think there is weddings there round the clock... so.. why could they not accommodate? :confused3
