Proper line etiquette when people play the video games and won't move forward

Here's the situation: You're in line at Space Mountain and people in front of you are playing the asteroids game and the line has moved like 100 feet in front of them. Or you're at Peter Pan and people are trying to ring those shadow bells and the line has moved into the next room. You are at 7DMT and people are spinning the barrels and looking at the ceiling and line is long gone.

What is the etiquette in these situations? Can I pass them? Should I ask them to move forward? What is the right thing to do? I usually have just stood there because I don't want to get in a fight. But I'm not sure if it's OK to just pass them and move up with the rest of the line.

With a smile, "Hello, should I go ahead of you? The line seems to have moved out of the room."

As long as the line is still in sight, I don't say anything. But when the line disappears, or if it seems like it's getting close to the loading platform, then I speak up. Most of the time, it doesn't matter, since the game players are not slowing anything down (although they ARE preventing me from having my turn at playing the game... but that's a whole other issue). :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with continuing on if people prefer to play these sorts of things in the queue. If they grumble, then I suppose other guests would have to decide how they'd handle that interaction.

Hmm. I have seen both and not been bothered by either way of handling it.

But with that said, I HATE the games at Space Mountain. They are the perfect storm for my ultra-competitive 11yo son. He HAS to win the game (including continuing well after the line has moved), but he gets ticked off if anyone tries to pass, because letting someone pass like losing a race. I was so thankful when the games were down on our last trip.

I personally think, unless the line has moved all the way to the boarding area--if it's not actually adding to your wait time--you should just wait. I don't like it when people rush me past the games just so I have to stand and look at a wall while the people behind us play. That's my opinion.

I say "Excuse me, the line has moved." Usually the person will either go "Oh sorry!" and move up or they will tell me to go on ahead. If they say nothing, then I moved past them.

If you want to play games instead of moving with the line, then you have made the decision that the game is more important. You shouldn't hold people up.

Totally! I think a polite check to see what they want to do and move on!

If it appears like they are keeping us from just getting on the ride, I just do a polite "do you mind if we go past you while you enjoy the game" otherwise I don't mind waiting, it's not slowing me down from getting the ride.. in space mountain, I generally just go if I can't see the line and become polite when I can, that place has so many spots and common for someone to be far back from the line.

Either or. Disney CM's will tell you to go around people playing games, not paying attention, or not filling in all available space. If the lines moved a lot, I go around. If it's not that much distance, I'll wait a few until they move.

A lady tried to argue with me one time in line for the Safari at AK. It was a single file line in the que, having been on it multiple times I knew single file wasn't the case. So we started bypassing all these people AFTER I made a comment saying it wasn't single file. After passing quite a few a lady said "uh excuse me, do you have a fast pass. If not then this is the line you need to wait in". I told her there was no single file line and they want all available space filled. She had a couple choice words but we continued on lol. I know it made her angry about 15 min later when I was a good ways in front of her and a CM announcement came on overhead saying "everyone please fill in all available space. If the group in front of you isn't filling all the space, feel free to pass them".

So some people won't like it, some people won't care. Just judge the situation and do what you think is best.

I go around them. If they aren't keeping up with the line and would rather play the game that's on them. If keeping your spot is important they should pay attention.

I've had people give me the evil eye at the Safari and Haunted Mansion when they are all standing to one side and I walk right around them. I mean come on they make the announcement over and over. Not to mention it just seems obvious.

If it's not holding people up from getting on the ride, it doesn't matter to me. Most of them that I can think of are pretty far back in the queue, so it doesn't add any wait time.
