I know, I know...search should be my friend, but everything I came up with was older (and got off topic rather quickly as things used to always do...:rolleyes1 )

Anyway, does anyone know the current ruling on propane campfires? It seems as though they are a no-go since it is considered an open flame, but I figured I'd ask.

They're not really "open flame", are they? Aren't they usually in a fire bowl - outdoor grill type thing? I would think they are okay.

I our welcome packet there is a colored sheet the has approved fire pits. Next time I’m at my motor home I will get it and post it. I can tell you that propane fire pits are not approved

Cool, thanks!

stillh20,

Thanks for posting the pictures/handout.

Solid top is good.

Mesh top is bad.

Me understand. :thumbsup2

Thanks Stillh2o! That helps a lot, and now we know the difinitive current answer!

It made me laugh since that square-ish one in the "approved" category is what we have at home on our patio. Nobody would ever carry it along camping since it is several pieces stacked, the side screens justkind of sit in place, and it weighs about 80 lbs. Not "portable" in the least!

Seems like if you know someone who welds, they could put together a screen and top for the propane campfire.

Eh, that seems too much like work... For the couple of times we feel like we'd like a fire, we can light a candle or download a fireplace app for my phone :lmao:

We have the camp fire in a can and it is allowed at 99% of the camp grounds. There are no sparks and that is what makes it safest as an open flame.
