Proof of AAA question

I booked a room, dining, and park hopper tickets through a AAA TA. I am not a member of AAA but still got the discount. The TA said that the travel agency was open to everyone. I asked if I needed to become a member to get the discount and she said no. I called the reservation line and asked if I would need to show proof of being a AAA member and she said no since it would already be paid for ahead of time through AAA. I guess I am just being paranoid, but I am afraid I am going to show up and have to pay more money. Any experience with this?

Interesting - makes me wonder why I pay for a membership.

My experience with AAA (not at Disney, never used it there) is that I have had to present the card upon check in when using it at hotels. Now, all these instances were when I booked either on-line or direct via phone with the hotel.

I am curious to see if anyone knows the answer

AAA discounted rates are supposed to be used exclusively for AAA members. Because AAA discounted packages can only be booked by AAA travel agencies for their clients and the travel agent is supposed to be verifying membership and eligibility prior to booking, Disney does not currently verify eligibility at the resort. AAA travel agents may also book non-discounted vacation packages for clients who are not AAA members.

As for the discounted AAA Room-only rates, these can be booked by any travel agent or directly with Disney. Because the bookings are not made exclusively by AAA agents, proof of eligibility for the discount is required at check-in.

Makes me wonder whether you got the AAA discount or just the normal rate. I would check into it. When I booked last month, the TA checked for my AAA member number. Which I got just before booking.

I emailed AAA and they told me to ask for the discount, but didn't know how much it was. I am waiting to do so, b/c...... If Disney offers another "special offer" online, I'm afraid I can't get both discounts (and I am guessing that Disney's would be better)...

Any thoughts?

I booked a standard at POP for 7 nights (Feb 10-17) directly through Disney, room only, with AAA rate for a total of $516.83 ($73.83 a night with taxes). "Normal" value season rate would have been $645.82 ($92.26/night).

So it saved $128.99 ($71.99 if you factor in the $57 membership fee). I was happy with that. I was told that if a code comes out for that timeframe which offers a better discount that I can call and apply it instead of the AAA rate.

I know on some hotel websites, you have to enter your AAA number to get the member's discount. But I have booked many, many rooms with either a triple A or government employee's discount ( both of which I am eligible for) and have never ever been asked for verification at check in. Easy enough to provide, I've just never been asked.

We have a room booked for November with a AAA discount. I booked it over the phone thru Disney. I was told that I must present my AAA card when checking in even though our room has been paid for in full. I am assuming if I can't show proof of my AAA membership that I will have to make up the difference upon check-in.

We had to show our AAA card at check-in on our last stay and were told that we needed to present our card for verification when we check in for our Oct. stay this year or our rate will revert to Rack.

The discounts are only on the rooms and are limited. We booked for April 26-May 4 with 8 day base tickets, 5 adults, 2 standard rooms at POP, for $2746. Disney gave me a price of $3014 without discount. Saved $268. When we booked our AAA TA asked for our card.

Whenever I got a AAA discount I was told I would need to show the card at checking. When I checked in I was asked to show the card. The name on the card had to match the name on the reservation and my license. You can make the reservation without the card, but need the card at check-in.

I booked through AAA (got the membership to book the room) and when the Disney Visa code came out last week, called them up and they looked into it and saved me an additional $255. So you can use both. Now I have saved about $500 over rack rate from when I originally booked.

I think TJ's Mom may end up paying more. I purchased the AAA so I could get the discount. It was only $58 for 2 of us.

I think it depends on when you are going and the resort you're staying in. My AAA rate was better than the new discounted package, even the AAA agent was surprised.

I have always been asked to see my AAA card upon check in. The reservation was in my name and my mom tried to check us in while I was in the bathroom with my little one. They wouldn't let her. They needed my photo ID and AAA card.

It was cheaper than the online rate by over $200.

It sounds like we need to join just to be on the safe side. I had planned on doing that all along, but when the TA said it wasn't necessary and the lady on the reservation line for Disney said they would not check, I thought why join if it is not needed. Thanks for all the feedback.

Hmmm....I just saved my clients (AAA) $3667.50 collectively ABOVE the AAA rate! (Yes, I work through AAA) I was surprised but I did just save 15 families a decent amount of money. (Average of 244.50 per family). Oh, and I did do this without them needing to call me and tell me to apply the code!
