My DD's Prom is in 3 months and she is very hard to fit. She's busty on top but a size 4 on the bottom. She wants a 2-piece dress with a small gap at her upper abs. She went dress shopping yesterday and when she sized up for her top, the bottom was way too big. I think I have enough time to order something custom made from China. Can anyone suggest a company? I want to spend less than $200.

No advice Robin, but OMG I remember when your DD was about 10! How time flies.

I checked Norstrom, and they have quite a few. If you ordered today, you would get it in a few days, and take it to a tailor to see if it can be altered. Those China stores make me nervous, although my friend ended up with a nice dress for her dd.

I know one of my friend's employees ordered from China on Ebay, I don't think she ever got the dress, so be careful, and look for great feedback.

I'm not sure about the style you are looking for but check out Ever Pretty dresses on Amazon. They are much larger in the top than standard dresses.

Last year's dress was $65 and we just got this year's for $45.

And make sure to use their separate sizing chart!

We bought one from a website called EricDress. It came very quickly. Though, we made the mistake of not putting in the measurements, it was about $50 cheaper to buy a size, it said it was the last one and it was the one she wanted and knew the size would be close. However it needs majorly hemmed, and I am thinking I will pay more than $50 to alter it. It came in a few weeks ago, but have not taken it to tailor yet. Ended up only spending $80 on it, I think it looks reasonably nice for $80. My emails came from Tidebuy, so that must be same company.

I bought my wedding dress from jenjenhouse. It was an extra $8 or so for custom measurements. It was beautiful and perfect. They have a lot of prom/bridesmaid dresses available, just make sure you have enough time for it to be custom made and shipped from China. I would definitely order from them again. My mom also got her dress from them.

Ooooh! Thank you. I found one that she might like for $108.00

Not my post, but thanks for the suggestions! I just started doing some browsing for our 10 year vow renewal next year and don't want to spend much. These sites have great deals!

Prom dresses are insanely expensive here. I remember looking last year and most of them were well over $150 and they would have to be altered on top of that.

I was talking to another swim mom with an older daughter who is a junior at another high school. She just bought her DD a prom dress from a local specialty store. I asked her how much it was and she said $550! *gulp* Another girl have a beautiful dress for sale on the local FB for sale group. She's asking $300 for a dress that she spend $500 on and wore twice.

We ordered a dress for homecoming from China on Amazon- the seller was babyonlinedress. We tried it because we wanted a short dress that wasn't TOO short. It came and was long enough, but it was tight around the armholes and uncomfortable. My mom tried to make small adjustments, but short of remaking the top, it wasn't going to work. It was pretty, though, so she wore it, and then never wanted to see it again because it hurt!

Then after ordering a dress (from the US) for prom that we had tried on a very similar style in the same brand, and that not working, I am done with ordering special occasion dresses I think. Buying from the store from now on. We got a 2 piece from Dillards for DD. We don't have the bust problem (I am adding padding to her size 1 top LOL but I would say in normal clothes she is a 4), but I would definitely look into buying the top for size and having the bottom taken in. I would think that would be easier.

Her dress at Dillard's was $229 which after the dress we thought we wanted was $400, I felt pretty good about that price. They have cheaper ones, too. Hers shows just about 1 inch between the top and bottom, just below her rib cage.

Last year, both dd13 and dd14 had dances. Dd14 became really knowledgable about different designers, and couldn't believe how many girls had $400+ dresses for the 6th and 8th grade dances. I did spend that on dd19's dress, but all of her previous prom/formal dresses were pretty inexpensive (one was $5 at the thrift store, she wore it twice).

Holy cow with these prices! I spent about $500 on MY WEDDING DRESS about 9 years ago. My prom dress we got in Downtown L.A. for about $125 (2005) and my mom about had a COW! I only went to 2 formals in high school so she bit the bullet. My younger cousin wore the dress about 5 years later so I think we got our monies worth. I am so glad I don't have girls :scared:

Looking at some of these sites you all have mentioned I think I can get a vow renewal dress for under $150.

Super expensive here too! I spent $510 on my DD's prom dress. She's our only child, couldn't imagine doing that I we had several girls.
Side note, this prom dress cost more than my wedding dress:crazy2:

I suggest going to a mall and checking out all the stores that sell dresses (esp the sales racks). You may find something without having to order online.

I hate that the store Deb went out of business for prom dresses. Their clothes were awful for everything except prom which may be why they went out, but it was nice when they were there. I know we got a couple dresses from there for under $200 which were almost identical to the more expensive ones. The usually just had less beading.

My daughter ordered her prom dress this year on Etsy, and the vendor was from China. I was a nervous wreck about this, but the reviews on her site were excellent. We went ahead and ordered the dress, $189 which is far cheaper than what we would pay for a similar dress around here. It arrived early, fit perfectly, and the quality is above average. It even arrived a couple of weeks earlier than what was stated. If you would like me to PM you the site she used, just let me know.
