Projected dates for eliminating keys to the world cards for dvc resorts?

Does anyone know? First Pop, this week it's the All Stars. I'm a little worried about our quick trip jan. 1 and our ability to get fp. We will have the magic band ones, but with the tier ing it doesn't cover all our must dos. We are early people, but we always have a fp going even then.

I have a concern about eliminating the cards but for a different reason. When we visit WDW and stay in a DVC resort, we very rarely go to the parks. Now that our children are older and out on their own, it is just me and my husband. We enjoy staying at the resort or resort hopping. Therefore, I am hoping we can still get a card and not have to have the "Magic Bands"...I wore one for a day in October and it was uncomfortable, tight on my wrist and sweaty. I just want a card to enter the room...we have APs if we need to visit the parks.

I believe eliminating the cards will be a BIG, HUGE mistake for Disney. For those of us that still want them, we should be able to get them!

They are not eliminating KTTW cards, they are eliminating KTTW cards that have magnetic stripes. The new versions are RFID only. They will work the same way MBs do. Guests will be limited to the FP+ system and will not be able to pull FP-s.

Not sure what's really going on but from what I have read, they are definitely eliminating the KTTW cards altogether. No cards at ALL anymore, from what I'm reading.

I've wondered how they are going to handle EMH. I'm surprised this hasn't come up.

You can request a KTTW card at the resort, but as MouseMomx2 said, they will not work in the legacy FP machines.

Disney has said that guests will always be able to opt for a KTTW card if they don't want to use MBs. They have to be requested as MBs are now the default, but they will always be available.

What is going away is the Legacy FP system. The new cards will not be able to access it while it is still in place. Disney has not announced a date for the elimination of Legacy FP but it isn't likely to happen until day/off-property guests have access to FP+.

Gotcha! Thanks!

So, I still wonder how they are going to do EMHs without cards. Lots of on-site guests won't know to ask for them so there's got to be another answer. Will be interesting to watch. Maybe they are going to scan MBs and go back to bracelets. Seems like a step backwards but I can't imagine any other way to verify someone staying on property.

Maybe they will just scan all MBs at ALL ride entrances and just not worry about running people out of the parks so much. No sign (at least not this week) of scanners at the SB entrances (just FP) but maybe that's what they are planning on doing. Maybe everybody will enter rides through FP entrances and be scanned. Hmmmm...

They have hand-held scanners that can scan both KTTW cards and MBs. Your resort stay is linked to your MDEx profile so they will know if you are eligible for EMHs or not. There is no need for anything else.

From WDWMagic.com regarding EMH:
Disney's Hollywood Studios will be testing the use of MagicBands for Extra Magic Hour park entrance later this week.
On October 25, 27, and November 2, guests will be required to touch their MagicBand to a handheld reader carried by cast members outside of the turnstiles. Once validated as resort guests, they will then be able to enter through the turnstiles as normal.

Once inside the park, the MagicBands will again be used to touch to a handheld device before entering every attraction. Resort guests without MagicBands can continue to present their resort ID cards.

Also:
Following on from the late October test at Disney's Hollywood Studios, MagicBands will now be required across all parks for entry into Extra Magic Hours.
Beginning on November 17 2013, MagicBands will be scanned by a cast member outside of the park entrance to determine EMH eligibility. Once cleared for EMH, guests will be directed to the entrance to enter the park as normal with their MagicBand. Those guests using RFID Key to the World cards can use those in place of the MagicBand.

Guests staying at the Swan and Dolphin, Shades of Green, or any of the EMH eligible hotels on Plaza Blvd can continue to enter using their hotel ID cards.

I guess my title should have been projected dates for removing legacy fb from dvc resort guests. Sounds like nothing has been announced, but it is moving quickly.

Since DVC members can't buy room/ticket packages, you should still have a separate ticket you can use for FP-. I used my AP in a FP- machine last month. I did get a KTTW but never used it.

If I order tickets online, have them linked to magic band, and have them mailed to me, will they have the magnetic stripe we can use to pull fp legacy?

We just got back on Saturday. For EMH, cast members asked to see our bands as we walked around. When we got on a ride, they scanned our band. It really was very easy.

We leave Friday for our 3 day trip. I still have my KTTW cards from my August trip. I do NOT like how they have tiered the FP+. It was not like that in August. It's impossible to book both soarin AND test track with FP+ you better believe I will be using my KTTW cards to get a legacy FP for one of the premier rides you can't do with FP+

I would be ok with the tiered system if they let me do 3 rides a day.....at each park. Many of us do a park in the morning take a break and go to another in the evening.

My original thought was that they were looking for ways to eliminate waiting in lines so you spend more money in the gift shops or restaurants. But limiting to one premier ride will surely increase standby times.

I'm glad to hear that we can still get the KTTW cards. I'm concerned because I thought the MagicBand system was still in testing. I know that when we were at Disney about 6 weeks ago, the Magic Bands didn't work to get us into our room. Fortunately, the KTTW card still did, otherwise we would have had to make that long walk back to the front desk. As long as MB is still in testing, I think they should at leaf give you a back up room key.

If you buy tickets in advance, you will be provided the actual tickets and those remain good for FP at the park at this time even if they are now phasing out the use of KTTW cards for that purpose (it is no different than if you are someone off-site who has regular tickets. With actual tickets FP still works regardless of whether the tickets are then matched to your bands . For example, we were there recently and got our actual AP's which were then linked to to the Magic Bands and the APs still work for FP at the parks.
