Just found this thread but have been watching all season and agree with many of your observations...
This last challenge was interesting- when they announced haute coture in 2 days I almost choked- I was seriously worried about some of the designers being able to finish the work...
Michael is my favorite- and I can see that had he had another day- his dress would have looked much better- and could have won -he has the most diverse designs and I like how he really thinks about the process and doesn't try to pull something he has already done before into the challenges like many of the others seem to do. But his dress did look great when they tucked in the mouse ears there- very Grecian looking when they did that
Jeffrey is a jerk extreme- I really was never thrilled with his attitude- but figured he'd stay in there to add drama to the show if nothing else- he is original in his designs but really he is over the top at times- the yellow plaid could have been ok- but his dress looked like he just tacked stuff together- and was split way to high- he is lucky he has the model he does- she knows how to sell what she is wearing even if she doesn't like it...
Uli- all her dresses do look the same- she really needs to pull something different out of her hat to stay in there- at least she stayed away from prints this time- but she does well in construction and has skated through each time
Laura- her dress looked like something Nancy Reagan would have worn- definitely not new or different- and I think the only reason she has eeked by is the talent for construction and her contribution to the drama
Kayne- this boy just cracks me up sometimes- he is a bit over the top and you can see the pageant influence in almost everything he does- but I liked his dress last night- maybe a little too much on the bodice when you looked up close- but as an overall look I really liked it and could have seen it on an actress at the Oscars or something
Vincent- he annoyed me but did provide entertainment value to the thing- how insecure this guy must be- geez. His dress last night reminded me of when Carol Burnett did Gone with the Wind skit on her show and came out wearing the curtains (rod included)- His dress looked like formal draperies and wore about as stiffly- I did like the back of his dress- but the sleeve and neckline were just not great. And when he whipped out the glue I knew he would be gone.
And next week they are designing for twins... and Laura has a breakdown about the stress with her pregnancy and mentions the Olson Twins- I somehow doubt it is the actual Olsons (her sense of humor and all) but you never know- But I suppose the question would be... are the designers having a limited time to create two dresses this time?
In future seasons I'd love to see them really do designs for all types- not just their stick thin female models- but men, older population and kids too... I just think it would be neat- they could do the gowns, sportsware, workware- really make them work- Especially with how uncomfortable Vincent was...
