I've seen a few threads where people discuss this project. Some people noted that they are sending the blankets into their local chapter. On the GAD site, they have a toolkit that explains to send it to the national headquarters.

Is there any reason people are choosing to send it to their local chapters rather than national HQ? Is reaching out to the local chapter better? How does it work with registering on the GAD site if you reach out to a local chapter?

I think there are probably 3 reasons
1. The blankets will be used locally.
2. There might be a local drop off, thereby no shipping costs would be incurred.
3. The national option was posted on the site after several local chapters were.

HIH.

How do I sign up to do this. Our local chapter has been overwhelmed and she is no longer even answering emails. I can send to the national organization but how do I register as a participant?

I found Project Linus when I searched for a local volunteer opportunity with my zip code - the local NH chapter of Project Linus came up, so I just signed up through them. Just so happens they're one of the chapters that allows you to deliver or mail the blankets to their local coordinator.

I finished mine today and am heading to the post office tomorrow. :thumbsup2

My local chapter is also overwhelmed, so I signed-up to mail them. I would rather drop them off. Is this an option?

It is for my local chapter here in NH - but each one is different, so be sure to ask first.

For some it's not. I know 2 of them I checked would not allow you to ship them.

I sent an inquiry email to 5 different P-L chapters (4 listed on the H-o-N).

One is a local one not signed up at this time, and she hasn't gotten back to me.

One replied that they were at capacity.

Two haven't even bothered to get back to me.

The last one called me directly. They had a requirement that we hand deliver, but she was very happy to accept mine through the mail, and only requires one blanket per participant. she was very knowledgable on the GAD process.

One blanket down and 2 to go. The girls are having fun helping.

We must have contacted the same NH chapter! (the seacost?) My husband was able to drop off ours last week and I got my vouchers in the email on Sunday. She told us at last count she was getting 815 blankets!!!

A little off track, but just wanted to post a big thank you to all of you who make these beautiful blankets. Where I work, we get to see the finished products and put them to good use. It is greatly appreciated and I also love that there are fellow DISers contributing!

Can you tell me long long it was between when you dropped the blankets off and when you got your voucher? We mailed our blankets to the NH chapter on Wednesday and are hoping to get our voucher before we leave in 13 days! Thanks for your help!

Yep, we'll have at least three going up to them. I wish I knew where it was located, but I think it may be too far to drive from central Mass. Have to get the supplies this week.
I love having such a worthwhile charity to do something for.

We signed up for this opportunity. We have to make 2 blankets per person and she is allowing us to mail them to her. So it must depend on the chapter.

My contact said she was also overwhelmed with volunteers, but is happy about it. I hope they get lots of beautiful blankets!

I just got an email this morning from the director of my local chapter. She attached a newsletter with different drop off locations, two in my town. They are NOT accepting the fleece tie blankets though, only sewn blankets or crocheted blankets. She said to attach my information when dropping off so I could receive credit for them. That concerns me though, I like to drop off directly to the person who will be giving me credit, not just leaving them somewhere for an undertermined amount of time.

I hope so too. I've knitted blankets for them in the past and hope people take this seriously and send in well made blankets. I'm shut out of our local chapter and hoping National emails me back soon (I asked them if it is true they will accept mail blankets and verify them there.)

I hope this isn't considered "thread Hijacking", but I am signed up to do this project for GAD and I have a question or two...I know the blankets have to be single layer fleece, 45" x 60", and fringed on the long ends. I have made double layer fleece blankets before, but they had fringe on all four sides. Am I fringing the ends that measure 45" or the ends that measure 60"? I assume it's the raw edges that get fringe, whichever length that is. Is there anything else expected besides just cutting and tying knots? Seems too easy. I do want to contribute nicely done work.

We have a local chapter, but they are not listed on the GAD site. Should I contact the chapter directly and ask for them to participate? Any advise is appreciated. What is the youngest age that they accept for volunteers? Thanks!

good idea. I think I'll do the same with the email that Disney gave me. I did a search for local nj chapters, but they are requiring 6 blankets per person and I just don't know if we have time to do 12 blankets between dbf and me.

I'm in NJ too, but could only find 1 local chapter. I'm hoping to be able to knit a few in time. I'm sure they'll be inundated with the no-sew fleece blankets.

Check with the person who will be accepting them. Different chapters have different guidelines. The one I signed up for will not accept single layer fleece.
