Progressive Auto Insurance

If you are their policyholder, I imagine they will work very hard for you.

We were rear-ended at a stop light a few years ago, and the person who hit us (we were STOPPED at a red light) had Progressive. They made it sound like it was OUR fault, that their customer was going 35 and hit us from behind. Their argument was that our car was older anyway and probably wouldn't last very long. Hello, it still ran fine before your customer crashed into us, and how do you know how long it would be around, you can see the future too????

They didn't want to pay us a dime, (even though our car was totalled - and therefore DH was without transportation to get to work) and we only got very little compensation after a very long drawn out action with an attorney.

Progressive is a very good company. If they are offering you a good rate, then go for it.

we've had them for 6 years and have been very pleased with their service; and their payment of a claim.

I talked to another parent last weekend that was dropping Progressive for State Farm because they were adding a teenager and Progressive was going to make them rate their son on the most expensive car they owned. State Farm on the other hand will let you rate your teen on the least expensive vehicle. We have State Farm and with a Good Student discount our daughter's insurance is only running us about $50/month more.

I've had only positive experiences as a Progressive policy holder for the last 5 or 6 years.

That's funny. I opened this thread to report how happy I was with Progressive when one of their policy holders hit me.
I was in a 6 car pileup and the person responsible had Progressive. The guy had only the minimum coverage and there was no way it would cover the other 5 cars. When it was obvious the $ was not there the agent worked to make sure those of us with Unisured/Underinsured motorist coverage were not out any $. They also insisted on a small payout ($200.00) as I did not try to sue. I had huge deep purple bruises covering my chest where the seatbelt held on the very hard impact. Other than being very sore I was fine.
On a total side note: I immediately went to my health club and got in neck high in the hot tub for as long as I could stand it and I think that made a huge difference on soreness later.

We had a similar situation as you. We got t-boned by one of their policyholders a few years ago who ran a red light. We had to fight them tooth and nail every step of the way. Luckily for us we had witnesses and the two surgeons we used were the best. One was one of the best in the world in his area and the other was Progressives "go to" guy that they used a lot on their side to refute medical claims. They really couldn't do much because of it. It was even a hassle to get the car fixed and they made that as difficult as they could on us. I can't tell you how much I despise them!

It worked out in the end for us, but if we didn't get an attorney to fight for us we would have been screwed.

They all have their pluses and minuses. Get quotes from more than one, and try to find a Mutual insurer to throw in the mix (mutual is not for profit, don't sell stock, don't answer to stockholders - they sometimes get you a better deal because of it).

I hate progressive.

When our daughter was in college and we gave her one of our cars to take to school, we signed her up for Progressive and paid the entire annual premium up front. We never heard from them again. Two months later my daughter is involved in a car accident (icy roads hit guardrail). We weren't going to file a claim as she wasn't cited and we only had liablity on the car.

We got her another car and she called to change the policy to be told that they had cancelled her policy 6 weeks prior and had refunded the unused premium. She never received the check and it had never been cashed. They cancelled because she didn't reply to a request for a transcript. She didn't receive it.

They refused to reinstate the policy. It was a complete mess.

Mutual companies are still for profit, they just give the profit to the policy holders not stock holders, but I agree, mutual companies generally are looking out for their policy holders more so then stock companies.

i dont really like their commercials very much.

We've had them for 5-6 years and have been consistently pleased. Dh and I had accidents this past December within 2 days of one another. Both incidents were handled quickly and efficiently. I have always had great experiences in dealing with their customer service department. Our rates have gone down every year. I am sure that won't be the case this year with the 2 claims, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

Uninsured/Underinsured coverage is for bodily injury only, it does not cover any property damage (including your car). So I don't know how that made any difference in your case.

Nope, I have had to use it twice as the "sandwich pile up" happened to me twice. My Uninsured/Underinsured coverage paid for my car damage twice. The first time I had GEICO and the second was w/ USAA.
Both times since the damage was so extensive and so many cars involved my insurance (Un/Underinsured) was who paid for my car.
I was at zero fault both times and both times the check to the colision repair company.

m&m's, I take it back, it looks it does in your state (assuming it's Texas). I'm licensed in 2 states and neither of them cover anything other than bodily injury (under un/underinsured coverage). I learn something new everyday! :)

Hmm. I have a separate charge for Bodily Injury on my policy. I thought all states were the same.
You really do learn something new every day. ;)

I have Progressive, I recently moved to another city, my car was under my dad's name because the insurance in my old city was ridiculously expensive, and it would have cost me even more since I've had my license less than 5 years, or something like that. Well, my new city has cheap rates, and so we put the title to the car and all that under my name and it saved us $1000/year to go with Progressive. Part of it is because of the new city, part of it is because the company I guess. Thankfully, I haven't needed to file any claims with them.

Some states cover un/un property damage others you can add it as an endorsement. The bodily injury that you see listed out on your policy is how much your policy will pay to cover someone ELSE if you injure them in an accident (which is why you want the highest coverage you can get for that). The un/un coverage on your policy helps kick in for YOU if the other motorist doesn't have coverage or not enough coverage that would otherwise be paid out of the bodily injury (liability) portion of their policy.

I love Progressive. Someone hit me from behind and crunched their car up. But mine had almost NO damage. Just a tiny little thing on the bumper that I would never have fixed, anyway.

Progressive came out to the site of the accident and gave me $800 for nothing. I even told them I didn't need it and wouldn't fix it, anyway, etc. Said I'd sign whatever they wanted. They insisted that $800 was a bargain for them and standard practice and please just take it and sign.

$800 for nothing.

That's why I love Progressive. :)
