Proffessor lost 27 Lbs with the Twinkie Diet

Figure $2.99 or so for each box of ten snack cakes ($1.19 for the Little Debbies) and $.79 - $.99 for the individual bags of Doritos... Not a whole lot, really.

Really interesting article. Thanks for sharing.

Not recommended for the majority of us though. Follow Dr. Oz.

I wouldn't really do it, but I thought it was interesting as it really debunks the theory that sweets and junk food are bad fo you. :lmao:

Well, note the following form the article:

"Two-thirds of his total intake came from junk food. He also took a multivitamin pill and drank a protein shake daily. And he ate vegetables, typically a can of green beans or three to four celery stalks."

So you'd have to add that to your grocery list ;)

Yup, those darned protein drinks are expensive. That could really add up.

I linked to his facebook page about the whole thing and he was definitely eating other stuff besides just canned beans as well. He questions at one point that they had to throw away some fruit as it didn't get eaten and would it be have been cheaper to buy more junk food as it lasts longer.

It was an interesting experiment. . .highlighting that calories DO count. I hate that. I don't think it proved anything we don't already know though. . .losing weight is healthy and calorie restriction is one way to do that. Of course, you get more nutritional bang for your buck eating "healthy" foods. And this is most likely not a healthy long term lifestyle change, BUT I think that he showed that it is still possible to lose weight and eat things you like. People have sure done worse things, in my opinion, to lose weight.

It also proves that most of the so called "healthy" diets like southbeach, etc. and all the other crazy fad diets (grapefruit anyone?) are definitely just as much about the calories as they are about the change in foods.

While not statistically significant, only one participant, what it really shows is what every infomercial diet pill hawker in the world doesn't want you to know, and what every Dr. worth his salt has known from day 1. Weight loss is as simple as calories in minus calories out. More out than in, you lose weight. More in than out, you gain weight. It is a plan I have used when I really needed to lose weight my whole life. It debunks all the people who claim pills work by letting you eat all you want and still lose weight. It debunks Atkins, Sugar Busters etc. It proves it is really all about the calories. Now when you have been overweight for some time and as a result have medical conditions that include high cholestiral, triglycerides, low HDL and blood pressure issues, you have to deal with more than calories by reducing fat intake etc. But from a weight loss perspective you really do have to watch calories.

I remember going to an at work Weight Watchers program back in the early 90's where I lost a lot of pounds. I stuck with the foods they recommended and more importantly restricted my portion sizes and thus my calories. Another women in the class which met every Thursday at lunch needed to lose quite a bit and week after week complained that the program was not working even though she was following it by the book. Many participants brought their lunch every week and she was one of them. She would always bring a "tub" of salad with some protien in it, chicken, lean beef, etc. She also used no fat dressing. The problem was and that she could never grasp was that literally the tupeware dish she brought held almost a gallon of food. Granted it was a lot of lettuce and vegitables but she used almost half a bottle of dressing and ate the whole thing. What she ate was fine, but even the right foods when eaten in large quantities will not allow you to lose weight.
