Process for ordering and paying at TS - is my summary correct?

I'm a logical / flow chart kind of person and like to be sure of the rough process when doing things. The following is based on DxDP and summarising different threads I've read.

  • When entering the rest the server will probably ask if we're on DP, or when taking orders. We're a party of 5 in total.
  • My SIL and I have two separate reservations so we'll reply along the lines of "yes and SIL and DN are on a separate plan to us..."
  • The server will take two orders, one for us, one for SIL.
  • At the end of the meal when the bills arrive and we're paying cash tip, we'll check the amounts, write "cash" in on the tipping line and give her $x tip and the card for the dining plan.
  • On the other hand SIL may charge her tips to the room, so in the tip space she will write $x and let the server know the tip is to be charged.
  • The server leaves charges and returns our cards and we can leave.

Any additional comments on what may or may not occur?

You are correct. Some will ask you if you want to charge tip to your room or another route.

at some restaurants, the server will ask to see your card before you order...and some places, they actually keep your card until meal is over (this happens most particularly at non-Disney restaurants...I think the servers are checking the cards to make sure you have TS type dining plan AND they are also scanning them to see that you have enough remaining credits to cover the meals because they don't want to get stiffed.) We've have that happen every time we've eaten at Via Napoli, as well as both times we've eaten at Yak & Yeti...someplace else, too, but can't think of where it was right now.

the only thing i recall that you left out was all the receipts... you have to sign twice i think and there's a ream of paper, some of them yours, some the restaurants... yours on one side, restaurant's on the other... sign here and her and keep this and move than and i'll take this and well, i found it confusing the few times i paid (dh seemed to have it down pat)...

Thank you.

Thanks for that - it's good to know they may do this!

Signing too! It's good to be prepared. Sounds like signing for a credit card!

Just an FYI and we found it easy--we got Disney Gift cards to cover any OOP expenses (alcohol and tips) and just handed that over with our KTTW card.

Didn't want any chance that things would get charged to the room by mistake.

Cool idea, thank you.
