Can anyone tell me if this is true. a friend of mine said that the stealing at Disney is very bad. that they will even steal your fanny packs off of you. CAN this be true!

Welcome to the DIS board, JMH!! You will find an answer to every question about the Swan on this board. There are people who have stayed there numerous times. Ask any specific question, and someone will have the answer. I have stayed at the Swan once and the Dolphin once.

Here are the best things about the Swan:

1. The location: The Swan and its sister hotel, the Dolphin, are located in the Epcot area, between the Yacht Club/Beach Club and the Boardwalk Inn. You can walk to either place. Just on the other side of the Boardwalk is Epcot and it is a nice 10 minute walk. You can also take a boat. You can walk to MGM in about 15 minutes, but the boat goes directly there from the Swan.

2. It's a deluxe resort, but because it is a Westin hotel it offers different discounts than Disney. We stayed there for $149/night this summer. They have WONDERFUL heavenly beds, as do all Westins. The rooms also are up-dated. The service is excellent. Because everything is so close, we didn't have to rent a car. You also get into the parks an hour early like you do when you stay in the Disney Resorts.

3. The Swan is smaller and more intimate than the Dolphin, and it's easier to get around. They are the first pick up on the bus route to MK, AK water parks and Downtown Disney. The Swan has its own quiet pool and shares the larger grotto pool with the Dolphin. The Dolphin also has a 24 hour food court, Tubbi's. It was a very quick walk from our room at the Swan. Much closer than it would be to the food court from some of the rooms at Disney resorts.

I don't know what other personal information you would like, but feel free to ask. We stayed there with our sons, ages 2 and 4, and found it great to be able to go back to the room for an afternoon nap and swim. One day we went to Epcot twice and MGM once from the Swan.

The only negative I can say about the Swan is that the discounts out for 2005 are not as good as they have been in the past. Hopefully they will offer some better prices as time goes by. Right now they have a $99 allearsnet.com special for Dec. 8-15, 2004.

I really like the Swan. The pool area is really nice with a waterfall and slide. You can walk to the boardwalk where there are shops and different types of places to eat. This is a very nice area to stay in at Disney. Be sure to sign up for the Starwood Hotels Guest Club. You will earn points for free stays. On some nights teachers, nurses, and government workers get a better rate.

Welcome to the Dis!:teeth:

Keep reading nurses & government workers (other than military) can receive a price-break on rooms at WDW. Which resorts, when & how?

Not at WDW hotels but at the Swan and Dolphin which are not owned by Disney but are on Disney property. Just click on the top of this page and fill in your dates to see if it is available for the time you'll be at WDW. We have uses it and it is a great room for that price!:D

My DH and I love the Swan. If we could have found a decent rate for when we are going, we would be staying there. Great location, great staff and super great heavenly beds.

My husband works for the state but won't be going with us to Disney in Jan. Can I still get the gov't discount?

Love the Swan - Most comfortable beds on property, also the best location.

jiliebelaw, I don't know if they would, they tell you to bring a paystub or I took my teaching certificate. :D

My sister and I are both educators and we got the teacher rate last christmas (12/27-1/1) of $129/night at the Dolphin. We both brought our paystubs, union cards etc...(we had 2 rooms - her and I and our 5 kids). They asked at checkin - the rooms were under my name, but she got her paystub out first and they took that for both rooms (1 reservation). It's a great hotel, great location...My husband and I are going back the beginning of December with our 2 kids (since he didn't go last year). My DS (11) said the next time we go back, he wants to stay at the swan/dolphin again....He doesn't know it yet, but we are...$99 mousefest rate...CAN't BE BEAT!:jumping1: :jumping1:

My husband had to bring his govt. ID. I was actually the one who checked in and I just brought the ID with me as he was entertaining the kids. I don't think I would want to chance that though.
