Problem with Hertz

Just a note about Hertz. We rented a car at the Portofino Hotel at Universal. Checked in at the lobby desk and was told to return the car to the Valet. Car was fine and we filled the tank prior to returning it. When we received our credit card statement, we had been charged for a tank of gas. After several calls, we resolved the difference. I suggested to Hertz that while it is convenient to drop the car off with the valet, they should issue an additional receipt.
 
Here is another problem when dealing with valet. When in Hawaii we went to get our car at the hotel, gave valet the parking receipt. Car was brought around. When I got in I saw a cooler sitting in the back seat. I always make a habit of noting the license plate number when I rent. It wasn't our car. Luckily ours was still there. So if you use valet make sure it is your car.
 
Problems can alwasy happen if you do not drop off the car with an official [Hertz] representative. Hotels can have official [Hertz] representatives, you just need to find out who they are and when they are on duty. They should inspect the car and issue a receipt showing the final charges.

Occasionally valets have been known to use the cars that are left with them. You might want to make a note of the odometer reading before and after.

We definitely learned a lesson. Thankfully, we saved our gas receipt which was dated and timed. Although, she instructed us to leave the car with the valet, I'll never do it again.
