I tried to order my airline tickets online and my disney visa would not accept!! I pay my account each month in full as soon as I get the bill. I finally had to use my husbands credit card which is also a visa (not disney) and it went right through!! I missed 31 reward points!~!! I called disney visa and they said security should of called (the phone lines where open) to verify charges. They directed me to the main security and the lady just said because of internet fraud they do not accept the large changes!! She asked me if I were going to be making anymore large purchases and said she would lift it for 2 weeks, whatever that meant!! I said "You mean I can't use my disney visa for the internet?" and she said I should always call them before any large purchases!!! Anyone else have problems?!! I sure hate missing those points!!!

I've never had anything like this happen and I have used mine to purchase airline tickets, computers, and other big items online.

Oh yeah, I've had "problems" with the security issue.

Once in Kohl's I was charging about $400 to my Disney Visa (this was last summer). As I'm standing in line the cashier said her register screen was giving her a prompt that she had to call the CC company. My card had a $0 balance on it (we always pay the balance off every month). I felt so stupid - the people behind me in line probably thought I was some kind of a deadbeat. Anyway, the cashier calls in and turns out it was just a security thing - the bank just wanted to make sure it was ME using my card for the large purchase.

But, for a while there I'd constantly get calls from Bank One because they wanted me to verify recent transactions to make sure they were mine. And many times DH would go to a gas station and the Disney Visa wouldn't work. I'd call and, sure enough, they'd ask me to verify prior purchases. It got really bad there for a while.

I don't know what changed, but, I haven't had these security problems in a while. Maybe because I told one of the reps that called that while I appreciate the security it was a little excessive!

Sorry you lost your points! :badpc:

This happened to us with our Chase visa at a store. We have a 10,000 Visa (that had maybe a $200-$300 balance) and were paying for a suit my husband purchased for $800. and they declined it. We had an automated message on our answering machine to call "because of suspicious activity" I am all for security-- but that was just embarassing!

I agree! I also had a $0 balance and had had a $6.064 balance the month before that had been paid off and credited to my account. The security person asked if I'd made that purchase and I said "I paid it off, I wouldn't of if I hadn't made the pruchase!" The point is, I try to put large purchases on this card for my points and if they are going to question it each time and embarrase me, it's not worth it!! I shouldn't have to call them each time I want to purchase a large item. My credit amount is $11,000!!

If I know I'm going to make a big purchase or a lot of purchases in a day (like when we go school shopping)...I'll call the credit card myself beforehand and let them know. I've done this with Discover and AX though so I can't speak for Chase but maybe it's something to try.

right now I'd prefer the security....

last week someone tried to advance over $3,500 to our chase CC...

It wasn't us.....

I was glad they got in touch with me....

But I agree with the op that they are going overboard...one day a couple months ago...I personally charged two things to my card over the internet (one item was like $10 and the other was $30, not big ticket or anything)...without telling/warning us...they froze the account...I didn't know it was frozen until we tried to pay our dishwasher repairman and ended up looking like deadbeats because our card wouldn't go through...UGGGG

I'm with you. Chase Visa has been a real source of frustration lately for me too. I have a huge limit and purchased my DVC timeshare and wanted to pay for it through my Chase Visa to earn the points. It took 2 weeks to process my first payment of $12,000 (which included a week to hold my account, even though the money came out of my checking account within 24 hours). I just made my second payment, so am back in the waiting game again too. After I'm done, I will be retiring this card. It has cause more pain than pleasure. I will go back to using my good old stand by Visa through my credit union. Phooney on Chase Visa--and am a "member since day 1".

The credit card companies look for patterns in your spending habits and compare it against other information they may have about you and outside factors like the season.

If you have a habit of buying stuff online then it is less likely that there will be any question on a charge. If you your card to get gas more than x times per day and this is unusual, they will likely block the account until they can verify because that type of transaction has a high fraud potential if your card is lost or stolen. At Christmas time they change the logic because they know a lot of people do a significant amount of shopping in a couple of weeks. The more you use your account, the better they can determine what is a normal transaction for you and what looks suspicious.

From what I understand , their systems are pretty sophisticated and though they have a certain percentage of false positives I think the system is more accurate than you can imagine.

I have never had a problem. I put a downpayment on a car on a Saturday and on Sunday put 50% of my purchase of hardwood and carpet for our entire house on it and never an inquiry.

Are they going to give me a problem when I put my $4,000.00 WDW package on it next week?

You should call them right now and have them note the upcoming charge on your account.

Wow, Im glad this did not happen to me earlier this week. I had lasik eye surgery and put $3000 on my disney visa and it took it fine. I would have been embarrassed too if they would have said, Sorry. I have a $10,000 credit limit and only had about $100 balance on it. Thanks for letting us know for future times when this might happen. :flower:

We went on a cruise to Alaska in May. A few days before we left, I called Disney Visa to let them know we would be on the cruise. We did what we were supposed to do by notifying the credit card company about the trip, but Visa still put a hold on our account. I was not very happy with the company. If it becomes too much of a hassle to use credit cards, I will start using more cash and tr. checks.
:confused3

I have never had a problem, but my sister had a problem with her cc when she lived in Ca and came home to visit. We always notify them when we go on vacation.

I used my Disney Chase Visa to charge $503 in airline tickets last night online with Air Tran with no problem.

I put DVC on my Bank One AOL Visa in 1999, it was 2 charges of $7,000 each and it was never questioned.

How long have you had the card? I know they are more careful when you first have the card or for a sudden large purchase when you haven't been using it.

I've had mine less than 6 months - got it soley for Disney trips to earn the points. In one day I put the cruise and over $600 worth of airline on it and no one called me.

That does sound like excessive security - and it will only take once to embarrass me and I will cancel the card - points or not!
(however, the free companion ticket voucher and the Aladdin DVD were nice perks! ha! :rotfl: )

Thanks for the heads up - I will take a spare card on vacation in the event this happens.

A lot depends on your purchasing patterns. I do a lot of travel type purchases so the computer is "used" to this.

However, I do call them for certain things. I had a charge for about $3,000 this past spring coming from a place in Switzerland (deposit on a Girl Scout trip) I called and it posted with no issues..

I called when I went to Europe this summer and had no problems (Thank goodness since the other leader lost the Girl Scout credit card DAY ONE! LOL!)

Personally, I don't find it that upsetting. I have had to call on cards several times. (For some reason my SW BankOne just seemed to always get a hold!) I would rather have this then the post "Someone stole my credit card and charged $2,000 on it!" In this day and age if your CC is NOT doing a fraud watch then you are in trouble. I cancelled a Credit Union Visa after I found out they did "post charging reviews" In other words everything was charged with no questions and then a few days later they had a service that scanned for "questionable charges" On of my friend's cards was lifted and by the time the Credit Union noticed there were alomst $18,000 in charges on it! Talk about a mess. And a decent fraud program would have noticed that PRIOR to that weekend my friend had never bought a Harley!

I agree. I had a charge questioned when i bought my timeshare.....since it was for 3 or 4K, but that's when my card was pretty new. Since it's not unusual now for me to have airline or hotel charges, I haven't been questioned. When I have something important to charge, and I want to make sure it went through, I do call. For my daughter's entry to nationals her first year, I called ahead, because the organization said if it didn't go through, you had to send a money order! This year I wasn't worried.
