Probably a very odd question for BoardWalk

So my wife is wondering about staying at BoardWalk Villas and we've been doing our research on amenities. The question I have concerns the number of floors and if stair access is available and open to guests all the way to the top floors. I recently in got stuck in an elevator for over an hour and since then I just cant do them without having panic attacks. I know it's a silly situation, but there it is. All comments are appreciated. (oh and if you are wondering about elevators in older buildings , no they don't have air flow and no those escape hatches that you see in the movies don't exist).

Gosh what a scary experience!
We used the stairs during our stay at the Boardwalk Villas. Although we were on the lobby level so the stairs we were using were to go down to the pool and parks - just two flights. The stairs appear to go all the way up - I asked my son and he said he ran up. Curious kids!
What do you think about putting in a request for a ground floor room? or do you prefer to be up with a balcony?

Yes, we've been on the upper level and used the stairs. However we used the stairs that were right next to our room and we used them as our "back door" access. We used them to go down to the pool and out to the HS walkway. I'm not positive if there is a stairway right by the lobby/elevator area, but I would suspect that yes there would be.

Of course there are stairs to all levels. Fire safety and all that. And elevators have call buttons and there are people everywhere to hear someone calling out. The ONE place I would never worry about being stuck in an elevator with no one knowing is at WDW!

If I were to ever get stuck in an elevator I would never get on another one in my life. I don't like them to begin with.

Yes, our room was the end of the hallway, and we were right next to the stairs that led out to the quiet pool... it was awesome. Also, I 'think' (someone else may know for sure) the 2nd floor is actually the same level of the lobby, etc so if you got a room on that floor you would only need to take the stairs that lead down to the boardwalk/boats/pools.

As others have noted, there's no problem using the stairs if you prefer. However, be aware that most (if not all) of the ground level stair exits can not be opened from the outside so you'll need to go in through one of the regular entrances before heading for the stairs.

I thought they could be opened with a room key/magic band?
We've gone in through these side exits hundreds of times, especially when walking back from DHS.

We always use the stairs. You can enter the building for a ground level stair "exit" using your room key at the Boardwalk.

The staircase next to the BWV elevators leads down to a "secret door" behind the Screen Door, right near the ATM machine. There is no handle on the outside of the door so you cannot go in that way, only go out. The other doors on the BWV side have access to enter with your room key/Magic Band.

I'm sorry to hear about your ordeal! I hope you can recover soon. That being said, we had a one bedroom (dedicated) villa as far as you could get from the elevators a year and a half ago. At first, it was a pain, but then we discovered we were right next to stairs (and we were on the top floor - our only request was a high floor) that took us right down to the back of the resort by Jellyrolls!

I'd request near stairs if you want! It was quick and easy (but we're fit compared to some, and I enjoy stairs).

Otherwise, I agree to listen to Denise W or others also. You'll find stairs no problem. Have the bell services deliver your bags or groceries! Hope you have a great trip!

The entrance that is by the pond near the bus stop has a stairway across from it and it only goes up to 4 because that part of the building only has 4 floors. Other areas of the building should have access to all 5 floors.

There are actually 2 grand villas below the Boardwalk sign that have their second floor on the 6th floor, you would access through the 5th floor room door but I would think there are stairs up there for fire escape.

FYI - thread with room #'s:

I would request ground floor or lobby level (which is actually the second floor). Either one will give you the easiest access to enter and exit without having to use elevators. My mom was claustrophobic, and had some mobility issues, so I know those two levels work well for the anti-elevator crowd. I actually still request the lobby level quite often - it is soooo convenient it spoils you for staying in any other part of the resort.

Thank you for all your replies. I will be asking for the first or second floor. I am looking forward to doing the walk to epcot and HS.
