Bush fans turn up heat on Disney
With Ashley Pearson
MSNBC

May 13 — Get ready for the Bushies vs. Mickey Mouse. Some stalwart supporters of the president are organizing a boycott of Disney after it was revealed that a subsidiary of the company is helping finance Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which is expected to come out in time for the 2004 election and reportedly will show links between the Bush dynasty and Osama bin Laden.

‘We’ve weathered storms before.’

ON FRIDAY, Variety reported that Disney’s Miramax Films would provide interim funding for the flick after Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions dropped the project.
“Financing Michael Moore’s 2004 ‘Attack Film’ on Bush is UNACCEPTABLE,” notes the conservative Web site Free Republic, which gives contact numbers for people to complain to both Miramax and Disney.

The site also urges boycotts of all Disney products, including DisneyWorld and even ABC.
A source close to Miramax says the company is undaunted. “We’ve weathered storms before.”
When asked about the planned boycott by Free Republic, the insider said, “Whoever they are, they’re entitled to their opinion.”

Oh goody -- because what the world is needing these days is more boycotts.

Gosh!! I hope they don't financially ruin Disney like they did the Dixie Chicks!!

;)

I think Michael Moore would feel right at home in Fantasyland.

Haha, no doubt.

"We live in a ficticious time in a ficticious land, with ficticious stories. We have a kid that would rather fly around & wreak havok on poor pirates than grow up! Shame on you Mr. Pan! Shame on you!"

:jester:

I'd just avoid either Miramax (have they even had any decent movies out lately) or just the Moore flick. Most people are aware that his documentaries aren't truthful anyway, right?

Errrr, this does make me ponder a possible boycott. This film is the equivalent of slander/treason from what I've seen/read. Tying G.W. Bush to 9/11 because of financial ties between his family and Bin Laden's in generations past. Hopefully Disney will avoid the controversy caused by this nut and drop him.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do drop Michael Moore. This has gotton a whole lot of attention on a whole lot of message boards rather quickly. It is also a controversy brewing before the fact. Remember the Insane Possy Clowns? I think Disney took a lot of heat on that and ended up dropping them.

it's the insane clown posse. :)

and i'm not sure that's a fair comparison. ;)

And that changes anything? I think that Michael Moore is every bit as controversial as the "crazy clowns" and it just might be a very appropriate comparison.

So that's the angle of the film? To find ties between the Bush and bin Laden families from a long time ago?

I thought Osama's family had disowned him.

dawn - perhaps you should have someone explain to you what the ;) means.

Sorry caity, the icons didn't load on the computer that I was using before. Sometimes that happens. Really, I am not kidding, honest!!! :jester: :jester: :jester:

LOL

The conservatives are attacking one of the men who got Bush elected. Moore is a greenie and a traitor to the democratic party. Nader and the Greenies are the main reason why Bush won in 2000. For example, Nader had more than enough votes in Florida to swing that state to Bush.

The conservatives are being very very silly in attacking Moore. They really should be thanking him for the Bush white house and hope that he does well with the next movie.

They kicked him out of the family a long time back.

Does that matter to Michael "The Wild Bore" Moore? No...In the bowl of pudding that his brain is, he still thinks Osama is a part of the Bin Laden family, and he's going to use this opinion to fit his own twisted agenda.

Also, I believe the comparison between Michael Moore and the Insane Clown Posse is a relevant one...Both entities are overweight, both are white and both are in the business of shocking people with opining. The only difference? The ICP promotes Faygo...Michael Moore has probably had so many bottles of it that it would explain his tremendous girth.

Finally, the Dixie Chicks aren't feeling any financial repercussions now, but that's just now...wait a year or two, and they'll definitely be feeling we, the boycotters (I'm a proud boycotter and member of Hollywood Halfwits, one of the premeir Hollywood leftist-bashing sites on the Net).

Yes, I'm a boycotter...Deal with it.

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff...

And yes, I am aware the "Scarface" quote was written by Halfwit Oliver Stone. It was written, though, in the period before he discovered leftist politics and just cared about writing ultraviolent, "F"-bomb-loaded popcorn pictures.

And also, fklhou, I don't believe that nonsense about the Green Party helping Bush to win. He won fair and square without their help. Get off the conservatives' cases for our hatred of Michael Moore, fklhou...

Sorry, fklhou, if you laugh at conservatives...you're laughing at some of your fellow board members. Now, that isn't friendly, is it?

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff

Interesting turn of events on this thread.

flkhou, aren't you just paraphrasing the Clinton-Bush-PEROT (yes, remember 'ol Ross??) argument?

It is well established that Ross Perot drew enough of the conservative vote away from Bush the elder (#41) to give the election to Bill Clinton, who, might I remind you, received LESS than 50% of the popular vote in 1992 as well???
