We are going to Crete, Mykonos, and Athens... we are new to DCL so that means last to book DCL excursions. Looking for other local recommendations for trips in case everything we want is booked. Thanks...

We booked a private guide through Tours By Locals, 2 in Athens and 1 in Delphi. The first in Athens took us to the ancient Agora, New Acropolis Museum, and Acropolis. The other in Athens took us to Temple of Poseidon in Sounion. All were amazing. Look for a licensed guide that can accompany you into the ruins and museums, not just a driver.

x3 for PK Tours! Was one of our favorite tours on entire trip! (Athens)
Great communication, well organized, great driver/guide and we had the perfect tour, amount of people (we did semi-private) and amount of time for everything! If you are going this summer then I highly recommend booking asap, tours fill up!!

Also, for Europe, I highly recommend private tours over the DCL tours! You will hear most people say that private tours are so much more enjoyable than the big groups of the DCL organized tours.

We used PK Tours for Athens and I highly recommend them. I also agree with teh suggestion to get the guide and driver.

We did Mykonos on our own and had a great day. I think this is an easy DIY port depending on what you want to do.

I agree that Mykonos is a good DIY port!
We did a beach excursion with Disney in the morning and later learned that you can book directly with the beach clubs. Some of them will even pick up/drop off at the cruise port.
It is easy to get into the old town area via water taxi that is included for DCL guests.

Another for PK tours private tour. Being private we did what wanted and left when ready. The guide came up with some ideas as we talked and asked questions.

Mykonos did on our own. Even walked to the windmills. Met a local who shared interesting stories.

Went in June and found temperatures fine on land but the ship was miserable. We weren't p prepared for how cold they kept the ship especially our room.

Mykonos: Agree with everyone that DIY works. Pay particular attention to the area below the windmills. That is where the final scene of The Bourne Identity was filmed; where Jason reunites with Marie.

Crete: Agios Nicholas and Elounda. Many scenes from The Moon-Spinners filmed there

So I was curious myself, and unless you’re on the July 3 sailing, at least for Full Day Athens tour, there are enough participants that you don’t need to put out an SOS. The half day tour does need more people however. I did not look into the other cities offered. The museum you pay for yourself when you arrive with your group. As an aside, our guide/driver were kind enough to exchange with us smaller Euro bills after they received their tips. We had a no transaction fee CC but wanted smaller bills for street vendors and such. Have a great trip!!

Not sure where you are docking in Crete, but on our 2022 Greek Isles cruise on the Magic, we stopped in Heraklion and if there I highly suggest that you visit the ruins of the Palace of Knossos.

Thanks for the recommendations for PKTravelGreece - I booked with them for the half-day semi-private tour in Athens. Now just hoping two more people from our sailing also book it! (there are 6 right now - June 14-21 sailing)
