Private Cabanas at Magic Kingdom: Last Day to Rent One - February 17, 2017

If this test is successful, I have absolutely no reason to think the cabanas will remain in an area that's seldom used/out of the way. In the thread on this on the rumors board, it's mentioned that if this test is successful, cabanas will be incorporated into SWL. Also at Epcot. Also said to be dedicating 1.5 acres to this idea in DLR, where space is at a premium already. I have no faith that Disney would not expand as much as they could if this is successful...it wouldn't benefit them to simply stay in an out of the way space in Tomorrowland.
sure but why get upset about it now if we don't know what's going to happen. I seriously don't think they will put it in a visible location without proper theming.
A friend of mine and her family came to F&W and while we were walking around WS we started talking about this. An area in each pavilion where people could relax for a while, we started joking that each area should be themed to where they aree. So for example in Japan they could have those pods where people pay for the hour to sleep or recharge, in Morroco maybe some hammocks, things like that. We have been joking all morning that Disney stole our idea :)

Now I understand their taking out seating areas over the past. We'll give you seating for 650.
This hits the nail on the head. This totally fits in with Disney's recent approach of getting ever more money from a small number of guests who will pay for seemingly anything Disney throws out there, rather than provide new experiences that all guests get with ever-increasing park admission.

It's not about the theming (proper or otherwise) to me.

There's not much space at DLR in the first place. To dedicate so much of it to something like this, as opposed to something that everyone can experience, is not something I agree with. As for why say it now? Because the best time to voice such opinions is when it is in testing mode, not after the test is successful and they decide to go through with it.

IDK I am torn here. I have purchased premium events before. I had a Cabana in Blizzard Beach, ive done fireworks crusies, etc. IDK if I would pay for this. I am ok with the idea for those that are not going to WDW as much as my family does so maybe for the 1 timers or first timers its ok for those that can afford it. I can afford it but its just not for me.

I could see this being more enticing to those who stay off-site. They might see it as a way to have a "home base" for the day, especially if they like to open and close the parks. It's a way to take a mid-day break without having to get in the car and drive back to their condo or off-site hotel. And since they probably will have a substantial savings by staying off-site, they may be able to justify the cost of this splurge, especially if its a mix of extended family that are splitting the cost.

I agree

for sure you can voice your opinion on this but realistically I think that the test will be measured by how many people book or don't book. Not by how many people like the idea or not

I'm not against this idea in theory, but those tents are ugly! I don't want to see something like that anywhere near MK. If they do build permanent structures, I hope they are nice and fit in with the surrounding area.

Voicing thoughts has made a difference at DLR in the past. Especially when the local crowd gets behind something. I have no thoughts that it will matter for WDW at all, I know better :) - but I do hold out hope that it can at DLR.

I would have LOVED this during the 24 hour events a couple of years ago!!

I would think that Disney could milk more money out of it if they booked them for 2-3 hour segments instead of the entire day. I would gladly pay $150 for 2 hours to take a break and relax. (I've been known to take extended breaks under the circus tent by the train station.) If I go back to my resort room, which is never on the monorail loop, it usually takes 3+ hours. This would save time....but there is always the free, and less glamorous, circus tent;)

Now we won't be renting one of these because we wouldn't use it and the cost, but why would anyone who does rent one need to explain, justify, or give any other reason besides "I wanted to" for anyone on this board?
I don't care if people complain about how pricing, crowds, lines, lands, etc., affects them, but I can't stand it when someone needs to comment on how someone else spends their own money.

If people can afford to do the things that make them happy, more power to them! :)

So you have no actual input as to why someone wanted one; yet quoted me.

I don't care how anyone spends their money I was asking what would attract them to this specifically.

Spend your money how you want - I just wanted to know what attracts someone to this product.

This is something that my family would have to try at least once.

I agree for me too but I do not like he way they look right now. If they look a little nicer I may give it a try. my children are 18 and 23 but I can see this as a great idea for families that need to break up with younger and older kids and if young kids need a nap.

Im interested to see how this works out.

Initially, my opinion was negative about it. That's a lot of money!

But I read Hopperfans post and thought about our upcoming trip when we want to do the SW dessert party. We're a party of 6 adults who each pay our own way. If we didn't split the cost, 6 X $69 = $414, would be a lot for one individual or family to spend. I can see the appeal if you were to split the cost with others.

I think its an individual decision based on what each family considers what's important and worth it to them. For me, the dessert party is worth it. For others the cabanas might be worth it. In each case we're spending more money on an extra bit of "magic". As I typed that I realized that it is sad that the extra "magic" has a price tag, but this is Disney we're talking about. (and another debate for another time. lol!) Now, if they did the cabanas in Epcot, added Illuminations viewing and some snacks, drinks (alcohol) and other perks.....my party of 6 *might* consider it.

If we had 8 people, I could certainly imagine doing this.

But there are only 3 of us, if our son comes. Two of us this trip and next.

I agree with this, we are always just 2 of us. If it were a per person charge, I'd be all over this. But, I understand that doing it per person doesn't allow them to maximize their profit and I don't actually expect that to be a consideration.

I'd be interested in seeing Disney do themed cabanas rather than bland white tents. I get that it's in testing.. but imagine a cabana that fits into the theme of Frontierland (would it have a fridge? haha).. but realistically, imagine a little castle cabana or a tiny Mickey's toon house cabana. I guess the downside would be that it would blend in too much and you'd have kids running up and trying to go into cabanas that don't belong to them, but it'd be an interesting idea.

We'd never rent one, but I guess this would be an option for those who are willing to to have a safe haven to store their valuables and go to cool off. Certainly an unexpected addition...

When will Disney start charging for the bathrooms?

I realize you are being sarcastic, but I just wanted to use this statement. :)

Disney is not taking anything away from the consumer by adding this "money grab" cabana option. In this instance, I am not being charged more for a product I already have use of. This is not a case where something was taken from me, yet I'm still being charged the same price. This is an add on that isn't affecting my trip if anyone else uses it.

Now look at what United is doing. They are offering "economy pricing". Except what I used to pay for my flight (including one carry on and choosing my seat) is now considered the economy pricing for which there is no carry on allowed and you do not get to choose your seat. Same price, options/product removed. Now I would have to pay more for what I was getting before. I am now choosing not to fly United. :)

There are only 4 of us, but we would book this for NYE. We would not book this during other times that we visit WDW as they are less crowded.
