If I am sending something Priority Mail, do I have to buy a special envelope from the post office, or can I use my own?

You can use your own.

Isn't Priority Mail just a different name for First Class? You can use your own packaging.

If you want the expedited Express Mail, you need to fil out a special form, like a waybill for FedEx, but I would not be surprised if you could get that from the PO website.

Regular envelope. For an extra 50 cents you can get a tracking number which I highly recommend. Then you can track it online to see when it's delivered.

You do not have to BUY a special envelope. They have them free on the counters or racks. You can simply use your own envelope an they will apply a small Priority sticker onto it. I like to use the Priority address labels they have. If I'm paying $4 more than 1st class, I want them to see it's Priority - even though it probably won't arrive any quicker.

If you read the small print it says delivered usually in 2-4 days. No guarantees. Well, gee that's the same as regular 1st class mail.

I looked on their website and where I am sending it to, it says will be 2 days. It is only going about two and a half hours from where I am.

First class mail is mail under 13oz, and usually takes from 1-4 days depending whereit goes. Locally, about 1, to Alaska or Hawaii, maybe 4.:) Priority Mail usually take 1-3 days, and covers anything First class that is over 13oz, or covers anything under that you pay the base rate of Priority on. It usually gets there a day earlier depending on where you are sending it to. Of course if the first class only takes 1 day so will the Priority.:) You see the day difference results the further you send it.:) Hope that helps.

I've had priority items take over two weeks to deliver...

Unless you pay for express/overnite mail... The do not guarantee it gets there any faster....

I would use their packaging though...

Delivery confirmation is free on the USPS.com website. I use them every week for my eBay items.

Priority Mail doesn't guarantee 2-3 days, it's just an estimate. It usually depends on the time of year. I've had PM arrive in 1 day to 2 weeks, also, the latter around Christmastime.

My sister has worked the PO for over 20 years and my Mom retired from it. She said if it weren't for Priority Mail and eBay they'd be out of business! The new rules for Passports have them busy now, too!

If you use your own envelope, make sure to put a Priority sticker on it in several places. When they sort, they don't check the postage! You can pay for Priority and have it get tossed in with First Class - it's happened to me!

But Priority envelopes, boxes, and stickers are free if you are shipping at Priority rate.
