Super job on the CARS2 night (or should I say nights?). What a great idea to celebrate each night with a different country! Boo agrees that the Lightning cupcakes were not his favorite to make either...but he loved making the Mater ones!
We splurged yesterday for the movie...we did the IMAX/3D show and it was $70 just for the tickets for the 5 of us! But, I have to say I really loved the movie. I had a few tears in my eyes at the beginning when they played tribute to Doc Hudson/Paul Newman. Doc was a favorite in our house...dh is restoring a car very similiar to Doc.
I am now questioning and ADR at Chef Mickey's...I was hoping to get breakfast there just to see the Fab5 and not have to hunt them down in the park.![]()
DH ran potty interference for me.We went to the drive-in, and we had to arrive 2.5 hours before movie start to get parking (
and just barely!). So about 30 minutes before the movie started, I took the kids to the potty ... and had to wait in line for almost 40 minutes! The movie had started by the time we got back to the car (it literally JUST started - but missed previews). Halfway through, DS needed to go again.... so DH took him. I made DD wait until the break - where we had to wait in line again, and missed the first 20 seconds or so of Green Lantern (they had a 20 minute intermission between movies + previews). I posted on FB that I forgot to grab my potty FP's.
I loved Green Lantern. My cousin and his date didn't care for it. DH said it wasn't bad (but not great either). DD9 liked the movie. It helps that Ryan Reynolds is delicious. But ... that's beside the point.
I thought it had a good plot. It was a bit slow to get started. But I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.
(DS enjoyed watching DD's teacher in the movie - he thought DD's teacher was the Green Lantern.)
We were lucky with the drive-in. It's cheaper there than seeing a movie matinae priced. It was $20 for the 4 of us to see two movies. (Well, it would have been $20 even if we left after Cars 2 - like most people.) We don't usually stay for the second movie, but I insisted - I wanted to see Mr. Delicious... I mean ... The Green Lantern.
And Cars 2 was awesome! I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can watch it over and over and over.![]()
We usually do the drive in too..for the cost factor...5 of us for $24 and a double feature (not that we usually stay for both). Butour drive in decided not to show CARS2 because of the contract...they would have had to make CARS2 the first show for the next 4 weeks...and with Transformers 2 and the last HP in the next few weeks...they decided against.
We saw Green Latern last week at the Drive in...Ryan is way too yummy and I agree the movie was not that bad! The second movie was Hangover 2, and while dh wanted to stay and see it...I put my foot down...we rented the first one and there was no way with the kids still awake...

Ok, now you both got me looking for a drive in to take the family to.I found one not too far from my house, it's $9 for adults, $4 for kids for a double feature, does that sound about right? And then you either pay $10 to bring your own food in or buy from their concessions stand. It sounds like fun and might be something I'll try out this summer!
Chef Mickeys looks fun. Once again love the boys matching shirts and your little girl's Minnie inspired shirt!
Love the Cars night/week! I've started doing our Epcot Country theme weeks and liked seeing your food from different countries. How was the movie? We are planning seeing it, but haven't made it yet.
CMs looks like fun though have read mixed reviews of this place.
Love the Cars theme especially the cupcakes. It is not released in the UK for another month yet.
Those cupcakes are so stinkin' cute! You did a great job.
I got a little behind, but I loved your pictures from Crystal Palace. It is always so bright and cheery in there.
The kids looked so cute at Chef Mickeys. I love your DD's shirt.
Your Cars 2 theme "week" sounded like a lot of fun. We just saw the movie today. I really liked it. We will probably do a theme night for it when the DVD comes out.
Oh my gosh I think your cupcakes came out so adorable!!!
Hmm... wonder if that's what our drive-in is doing.(4 week thing)
They're a very family-oriented drive-in; and they host a lot of "scout" events as well. So If they do HP or T2, I can see them showing Cars 2 first anyway - if they're still running it. I am sorry to hear that your drive-in bypassed the showing though.
I don't blame you for putting your foot down on Hangover 2. It would definitely not be appropriate for kids. While I'll probably watch the 2nd one, it will be via Netflix.
We rarely stay for the 2nd showing - even if its semi-family appropriate. I just couldn't bypass watching Mr. Delicious... err... Green Lantern though.
I don't know if that's really a good deal or not ... Guess you need to weigh it out. If you're just seeing one movie, then maybe not ... but probably a great deal for two movies. And why are they charging you to bring in your own food? What if you don't want any concessions? We don't buy concessions - and we only brought in water last night. I definitely think its something to weigh out to see if its a great deal or not.
Also, check to see if they charge a fee to boost you if your battery dies. (Ours does not, and they make announcements before and after each movie that if anyone needs a boost, they'll do it for free - they even have it in writing at the gate, and on their info paper/menu that they give you upon entry.)
Ours must really offer pretty decent deals ... $7 for adult and $3 for kids 5-12 (under 5 is free). Sometimes they have $20 per carload as well. And some weekends, they do triple-features (same price). No fees to bring in your own food/beverages - and its actually encouraged. They do have a concession stand - and their prices are really good there as well. I think its like $4.50 for a large popcorn ... but you can get a burger for like $3.50 ... and I recalled seeing drinks a pretty reasonable price (for concession prices anyway). They have a full grill ... so burgers, fries, etc.
Let us know if you try out the drive-in and how you liked it? I think I love it best because I can control the volume.I hate feeling deaf after seeing a movie in the theater.
I've had to cover my ears too many times because the action scenes are just TOO loud. At least in my car, I can turn down the volume before I lose all my hearing and suffer from ringing sounds.

Your cupcakes are sooooo cute! We go to Drive In a lot because the kids like to grab their sleeping bags and lay in the back. The place we go the kids will play football and frisbee b4 the movie. Most of the time you can see two movies. Concessions are not too bad and sometimes we bring our own. It is $9 adults and 4 for kids. Love the Drive In!
The concession stand at the place here sounds about the same as yours, prices are not bad but I still think I'd rather just pay the $10 and bring our own snacks and drinks. The only downside about the place is I've read some not so great reviews about the owner and employees, apparently there is a 3 page brochure of rules you must obey or they'll kick you out, kinda crazy! I'll let you guys know if we do it!
I thought that was something we could do with the kids, I've read that you can back in and the kids could lay down in the back of the truck. I haven't been to a drive in since I was little so it should be interesting.

Wow $70 just for tickets? I can't imagine what it was after snacks. With snacks it was about $75 for the 5 of us. Love the Doc Hudson tribute, my DH got mad at me for telling him about Doc, lol.
If you've never been to Chef Mickeys I would still give it a go. I think breakfast is probably better than dinner also, the only complaints I read about food were from dinner.
Wow 3 pages???!!!!
Our rules are moderate volume (if you have woofer things, then LOW volume or turn them off), one parking space per car & family (so if you park, you can't pull your chairs/blankets out an sit in the next space, you have to sit in same space as your car). And that's really about it. I mean, common sense rules apply, but those are the only published rules - and they're on the marquee as well as the menu they hand you upon entry. I'd love to hear what kind of rules they make up to put in a 3 page brochure. Are you sure its a drive-in and not some kind of elitist camp?
OH! No laser pointers at the screen, and headlights (etc) must be off during movies. Oh, and if you can't obstruct other's view (by like sitting on top of your SUV or something stupid like that). And if you park your vehicle in the "road", they'll tow it. (They do have parking for those who want to bring chairs and sit - kinda like overflow parking I guess.)
We love going to the drive in. We usually go with a large group of dh cousin's and their families and some friends and tailgate dinner before the first movie. Yes....we end up bringing a grill and everything. Then it is lawn chairs out the backs of the trucks/suburbans for the movie for the adults and the kids all get settled in the beds with sleeping bags and bean bags. Of course dh and his cousins all have adapters and we plug in portable radios...
I can't imagine paying to bring a cooler in...defeats the point of a drive in!Our drive in is $8 for adults, kids (under 12) $4 and car seats are free (and yes that means booster seats too).
We get spoiled in the summer...our drive in tries to have the first show be something that is family friendly for the most part...if you have one close enough...try it out!
Shhh...I always stop in at the dollar store and get snacks...but we did buy 4 drinks which was about another $20...I did get a free small popcorn with the Regal Card so we used that too.
OK, I need to come to your houses and do the drive in there, I think mine sounds like it may be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe I should just set the the big screen outside, break out the lawn chairs and get a movie from Netflix

I think I know the Drive-In you are talking about...does it begin with a B and sound like a dog's name? If so, we have been there once. I wanted to take the kids to a drive-in and we did enjoy it for the most part. Unfortunately we went early in the season so it was a bit chilly and the kids fell asleep in the back of the car. I think we saw some Jackie Chan family movie and then Clash of the Titans...but the little kids fell asleep before Clash started. I did read their rules and was a bit afraid...but it wasn't too bad. We did buy concessions but a warning...they charge you an extra fee to use your credit card for any concessions...so bring CASH ONLY! It was a royal PITA to charge our food! Maybe that's changed since this was last year but just in case.
I keep wanting to try it again one night now that it's warmer...just afraid now we'll have warmer weather but deal with bugs and my kids are just bug magnets and I don't want to deal with mosquito bites the next day. We'll see!![]()
