10-30-03 (Part 10) – Get Off My Back! <MGM/MNSSHP>

I turned around, looking for the Mouse I stepped on, finding no small squished animal I looked for the source of the scream. It was a cast member that was squealing and pointing at me. She said “STAY RIGHT THERE” and ran backstage. I froze in place. Then I realized I was blocking a candy trick or treat line so I moved over to the side, trying to keep in the same position. Tigger just looked amused. Well the cast member comes back with a camera and asks her co-worker to take a picture of us.

It seems that she loves Sleeping Beauty too and has the same passion for the blue dress, the CORRECT DRESS, as I do. It was pretty cool to have cast members so into it. We decided to make a run to the Mansion and do that first, it being Halloween and all.

Now I will say that CA people and FL people are WAY different. In Disneyland, there is a “thing” we all do with Haunted Mansion. Everyone recites parts of the elevator spiel (I know, no elevator in the shrinking room in WDW but your ceiling raises – same diff). Anyway, you’ll hear everyone saying “This room has no windows and no doors which offers you this chilling challenge – to find a way out! Of course there is always MY way – at which point we all look up at the hanging body and scream blue murder at the top of our lungs in the dark. People at WDW don’t do that. Audience participation is frowned on. I told this to Tigger so there were no faux paws (so to speak – Tigers have paws – get it..) And I am wearing “The Dress” so I can not behave in my normal manner. If I am wearing The Dress there is no swearing, no yelling, no kissing on Tigger or him grabbing my behind. Not in The Dress. I swore that I’d make it up when I was in my Tombstone outfit the next night.

They didn’t do anything special in the Mansion. I wonder if the Nightmare Before Christmas Holiday re-do will ever come to the WDW mansion. We do it at Disneyland and its really cool.

After the mansion we saw that there was a Haunted Riverboat ride however there was nothing “scary” on it. No scary stories, etc so we moved on. I told Tigger that during the parade, the headless horseman leads the parade and right before that they tell the story of Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square. We make mental notes to see the 2nd parade there and listen to the story.

We do all the major rides, except Splash Mountain, because Sleeping Beauty does not get wet. There is something fun and exciting about doing the Jungle Cruise in the dark. And speaking of the Jungle Cruise, when did they stop shooting at the hippos? Is this another victim of the PC Police?

Poor Tigger, people kept thinking he was Rhett Butler. After awhile I just say go with it. He’s handsome and dashing just like Rhett Butler. I posed for pictures with a fabulous Maleficient (I think every drag queen I know either loves Maleficient or Cruella – both have a fabulous sense of style).

Well my feet are now starting to hurt and we decide to get a place for the parade and listen to the story. We are on the right side of the street next to a planter. We listen to the story, which was very good, and settle down to wait for the parade.

Now I have never had bad parade experiences. I read about them on the DIS Board and sympathize. My luck was about to run out. About 5 minutes before the parade was to start, along came a man with his two daughters. One was about 12 and the other about 8.

First he tried to shove the 12 year old ahead of people camped on the curb and told her to stand in front of them. She looked very uncomfortable and didn’t want to do it but he kept telling her “Just step out there”. I was thinking “Look you jerk, stop pushing your kid. She knows its wrong, cut it out.” Then he puts the 8 year old on the brick ledge of the planter, right behind Tigger. O no.

Now neither Tigger nor myself have a problem with a small child seeing a parade. But it is another thing when adults get to the parade at the last minute and think it is their god given right to push their kids in front of you, crowd into your personal space, step on your things, nt even ask permission. I really dislike these people.

Now since I am wearing The Dress, I am constrained as to what I can do or say. Tigger didn’t want to start anything and the parade was coming. Now Mr. Pushy has both of his kids on the ledge and the 8 year old keeps poking Tigger in the back. This is starting to get dangerous. Tigger turns and gives the girl the Hairy Eyeball – no good. She is oblivious. He turns the eyeball on the Dad, he doesn’t care. She keeps pushing into Tigger, he starts pushing back. She steps on Tiggers coke. OK, that does it! I think there is gonna be a whoopin! I start looking for a woodshed. Just then, the parade is over. I grab Tigger and we run into the street. O gee, did I just step on Mr. Pushy’s toes?! I’m soooo sorry…….not.

We are now exhausted. I don’t even want to trick or treat. My Princess dogs are barkin and my ankle is starting to get a bit swollen. This is the first time I have put on heels and I’ve reached my limit. We decide to watch the fireworks out on Main Street and then call it a night.

Right before the fireworks show I run into two great gals. One dressed as Ariel in her town outfit and the other dressed as Brier Rose. They want a picture of my with Brier Rose. It is really cool. We have our giggle-fest, girly, mutual admiration society gathering over each others dresses while Doc/Rhett/Tigger was amused.

The fireworks show starts and its very impressive, especially when the fireworks go off all around you. When you are in the park, there is music, a “story” about the villains taking over the castle but I really don’t need the bells and whistles. Just a good show is just fine.

It’s all mushy and romantic and stuff. Well, this Princess is now very tired. I just want to get out of the dress and the wig and the shoes and lie down on the bed. Tomorrow is an Epcot/Mission Space day and its also Halloween. Just two more days of fun left and I need to conserve my strength so two very sleepy people toddled back to Wilderness Lodge. We didn’t even notice what was going on on the patio.
