Princess Weekend 2023 (Feb 23-26, 2023)

Sad to report we won't be participating in Princess 2023 after all. DW needs foot surgery and is facing a lengthy recovery. She could maybe be ready for Princess, but given runDisney's spotty track record of issuing refunds for injuries, it seems better not to risk it at all. I'll definitely miss the meetup most of all! Hope to be back for 2024.

Was coming to post that it's already only 1 month til registration... Am selfishly hoping the themes are uninteresting so there's not the same kind of frenzy as for MW lol. We've decided to try and sign the 4 of us for the 5k, so it's going to be quite a challenge. I'm betting on the FTC not selling out as quickly that I can sign up for after the 5k...

Sigh, I just realized that I have a doctor's appointment at 9 a.m. on registration day.

While I'm really kind of hoping that the themes won't appeal to me (doing Princess after Dopey seems like a bad thing for both my legs and my wallet), I have this bad feeling that it's going to be something that I can't turn down. Disney loves to upend my plans like that. And for that reason, I'm predicting that the themes will come out the end of next week while I'm traveling.

I just crunched some numbers yesterday, and if I can manage the same approximate total vacation budget in 2023 that I did in 2021, I can do 3 rD trips and still go to DC with my mother (if that even ends up happening, which is about a 50/50 chance at best)

I suppose that I can if I really need to, but I don't want if I'm not going to be registering. So if Disney wanted to help me out (which I know they don't), releasing the themes sooner rather than later would be great.

I hope so too. I'm not terribly excited about going through another anniversary registration so soon after the Marathon Weekend fiasco. But if the themes are Sleeping Beauty (I realize this is unlikely), Belle or Merida, we're going to need to talk.

Princess will be my first RunDisney race, but it sounds like they didn't also release it before the race, although I could be mistaken. I can’t imagine they won’t release the themes before registration starts, they have to know some people are drawn in by having a particular character being the theme for a race. MW‘s fiasco was due to runDisney’s failure to pay attention to how interested people were and get their IT prepared accordingly.

The Princess runDisney page hasn't been updated with its race specific tabs yet. In the recent past, the virtual race tabs gave us some themes and art work. I have a strong feeling that the tabs will be updated prior to the June 14th club runDisney registration. So we should know which characters are which races soon. I don't think the delay has much to do with what happened with MW 2023, but that's just an opinion and not based on anything.

Releasing themes before registration opens is a relatively new practice since I've been doing RunDisney races. I started running them in 2016 and it was the norm to go into registration with no knowledge of what the themes would be for most race weekends. I could be misremembering, but it seems like the current trend of revealing the themes early has only really started with the post-pandemic races. It'll be interesting to see if they revert to the previous practice as things get more "normal".

I'm equally as anxious as I stated above. I will be really bummed if I can't get in the 5K. With it being my 1st race I wanted to go easy on myself, but not opposed to trying the 10K. I'm doing the virtual series now just to help myself along since I'm a VERY new runner.
